I thought about making my own console as well, so, it's definitely time to announce it before I have any of the details ironed out or know if it's even feasible to manufacture.
The only game I think that's coming to current and next gen that looks much different (IMO) is Battlefield 4 (and no this isn't a BF vs. COD debate). Graphically it will look quite a bit better (although it sounds like after going to 1080p, >30 FPS and 64 players the graphic increase might not be as good as everyone hoped for) but even more important going from 24 to 64 players is a quite a difference in gameplay...I played BF3 on both X360 and PC.
If you aren't into Battlefield and none of the exclusives are games you must play immediately, I don't see a reason to upgrade for a while.
I have a PS4 BF4 bundle pre-ordered from Amazon but pretty sure I'm going to cancel it and just play BF4 on my PC. For me, it's a pretty easy decision...$60 vs. $500 to play the one launch game i know I want to play.
If you play on the same console it sounds like you'll only need one membership now. This would have been awesome for me this generation...as I have four kids who play. However, I'm not sure if I'll be buying an Xbox One anytime soon.
I had a conversation about this a few weeks ago. I was surprised keyboard support wasn't mentioned at either reveals. With more and more MMOs and non-gaming apps being on these systems I thought for sure they would at least mention they could be used for typing, if not even full support for games.
However, as a console and PC gamer, I do acknowledge mouse users would have a huge aiming advantage in FPS games.
The major difference is the other games next-gen version is coming out within weeks of the current gen, while demand for the titles are still high, not to mention right before holidays.
Companies like Gamestop are doing this is because they can make $70 off you ($60 for current gen + $10 upgrade fee) and then sell your current gen version for $55 to someone else.
By the time GTA V would come out next year, the demand for the current gen version will be way lower meaning they won't likely allow for upgrades...especially as cheap as $10.
You don't have to run on max for games to look better on PC (not to mention that's only one of many benefits to PC gaming, not that console gaming doesn't have their own).
DICE said at one point the BF3 ran on the equivalent to the lowest possible PC settings on current gen. I personally played BF3 on both 360 and on a PC running it on high (not ultra) settings and it looked way better.
Also, based on comments I've read and comparing next gen GPUs to PC GPUs, it's looking like after adding 64 players, 1080p, and 60 FPS, BF4 on next gen won't be running anywhere near Ultra settings on a PC. Probably closer to medium with possibly some high settings thrown in.
