Call of Duty: Ghosts trailer shows space warfare

New campaign trailer for Infinity Ward's upcoming game suggests story will take players to space.

by

A new campaign trailer for Call of Duty: Ghosts released today suggests that the upcoming Infinity Ward-developed game will have a sequence set in outer space.

In the early moments of the trailer (below), a squad of United States soldiers are shown escaping the fiery collapse of a space vessel and firing on unknown enemies.

It is not clear if Call of Duty: Ghosts will also have multiplayer scenarios set in space.

Activision registered a trademark for Call of Duty: Space Warfare in 2010 but abandoned the trademark last month.

Check out the full trailer below.

Call of Duty: Ghosts launches on November 5 for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC, and Wii U. The game is a launch title for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, releasing in North America on November 15 and November 22, respectively.

It is on track to be the most preordered game of 2013, according to retailer GameStop.

Why do the deorbited bombs get fired down? wouldn't firing them backwards work a heck of a lot better?

EDIT: I know they contain no explosives, but at the speeds they move, they explode on impact, thereby making them bombs.

guns in space is fucking stupid. they arent even stabilized so they would be flying off into space when they shoot

I haven't bothered with Call of Duty since the launch of the XBOX 360, and I have to say, if the opening scene in space is playable, I want to play that!

Hold on... Why would AN ASTRONAUT BRINGS A WEAPON TO THE SPACE? NONSENSE! Do they want to commit suicide in space? Dafuq?

Enough with the nonsense seriously. Guns in water? That's... just stupid enough because you can't shoot accurately in water and the speed of the bullet will be reduced. And then an astronaut in space with guns? That's new but SERIOUSLY?

This series has become a joke. I was laughing during that trailer, therefore it is a comedy. Thanks fer da laffs, IW.

Amusing reading opinions about what people think a CoD game ought to be.  I bet most have forgotten that it was originally a WWII game.   Imagine if Activiison announced the next CoD game will be WWII.  Kids would cry "WTF???  CoD is about modern warfare!!!"

See, here is what i stand by.. I don't mind a company milking it best selling product, after all they are in it to make money.. But the problem lies i other companies trying to reach those sales figures and lose there way in doing so..

Its not CoD fault it has found a the FPS formula that appeals to the masses.. If anything Cod doesn't need to innovate, you really think they can innovate a FPS and not kill the recipe for success, keep dreaming...

This is the hard bottom line, neither the battlefield Series or CoD series have stress innovation, and the developers of said series realize they don't have to, all thats really needed in these series is refinement..

COD and BF have a staple to sucess, and if you break away from that mold too far you can doom the series, but at the same time if you don't it can become stale.

What they have added to CoD and BF in this years edition, i'm fine with it.. What i'm not fine with is the price, lol..

I'm calling it now - the next COD will have dolphins that place mines on submarines and ships. You heard it here first so back me up for royalties.

I'm so bored whenever I watch footage of this game. After a certain point I just couldn't get excited about CoD anymore.

That point was 5 or 6 years ago.

Call Of Duty definitely isn't the worst game ever. I actually enjoyed one or two COD games for the competitive online..But its the point where people go on the GTA V Official Gameplay video and talk about how CoD is the king of games and GTA V sucks..That's the point that turns me off. Everyone has their own tastes, but unfortunately..There's always the die hard bigoted fans that always ruin it for everyone. So please..If you love Call Of Duty, that's okay. Its fine. We all have our own tastes. But don't go to other gameplay videos and try to pull off an Xbox One stunt of "Call Of Duty is the best game ever. Only losers play Skyrim". Its reasons like this why the CoD community is hated so much.

It's a bit amusing. For all the people who claim COD is 'shit', it's still one of the best selling series of all time. If it was really 'killing' the industry, it wouldn't sell at all.

@oflow  They have those jet packs for a reason you know.

Also, Consider that an astronaut+jetpack+spacegun weighs somewhere between 100-200 kg.

a space bullet probably moves at 1000 m/s and weighs 5 grams or so. The recoil

The recoil of one shot for even the lightest spacefaring gunman, 100 kg, would be 50 mm/s.

Assuming 600 Rounds per minute (which is probably too many, considering that guns heat up a lot), that is 0.05 G of thrust, easily counteracted.

Also, realistically,  a gun typically isn't close to 100% efficient in converting heat to momentum. Let's say these ones are good (they cost $100,000 a piece to bring up there, they better be good), and only convert 20% of their energy into barrel heat.

That is 500 Joules per shot.

Which seems to mean that at 10 shots per second chain-gunning, they would reach a temperature of about 1100-1200 Kelvins, red-hot.

Most guns don't like that temperature, For comparison, that is about 1520-1700 Degrees Fahrenheit.

Unfortunately, cooling it down to a more manageable 800 F requires that the gun only fire once every 0.8 seconds.

Also, If I designed a gun for space, It would not fire high-energy rounds, no need. It would fire lots of tiny flecks of non-aerodynamic particulate at hundreds or thousands of shots per second. Remember that you don't need to cause a lethal injury to kill, just puncture the suit and they will simultaneously blast off into deep space and lose all of their air. A space suit is 5 mm thick of fabric-ish material. You don't need giant heavy bullets to puncture one.

Oh yeah, and I'd also say screw you to gunpowder and go for full-on TNT, RDX, HMX,CL-20 or even something more exotic. The gun cost you $100,000 to launch anyway, what does it matter if the bullets are expensive?

Anyhow, my way of doing it shoots tiny flecks of stuff at 1200 m/s, each fleck would only have an energy comparable to a .22 caliber pistol round, a momentum one third that, but they would mass at 150 milligrams each, be shot at 200 rounds per SECOND and have less recoil than the assault rifle.

Oh, and because the entire round weighs 300 milligrams, a 1kg drum magazine of them could carry 3300 rounds while they accelerate off into space at 1/30th of a G.

Of course, there is still the problem of the barrel overheating, but you probably don't even need to do anything more than tap the trigger once for everything in your path to start suffocating, rocketing back, and bleeding out all at once. (bonus for blood vaporizing upon exit adding thrust to your swiss-cheese flailing adversary.)

@Qixote Well at the time it first came out WWII was the craze and there were all sorts of movies and TV shows about it so it was only natural that the game developers would go that way. Lot's of other game developers did pretty much the same thing though and it was quickly worn out so they started moving up the ladder towards more modern war scenarios and finally started making stuff up. If they keep going it's going to start looking like Crysis or MGS before it's over.

Player 1: You know, I have one simple request. And that is to have sharks with frickin' laser beams attached to their heads! Now evidently my cycloptic colleague informs me that that cannot be done. Ah, would you remind me what I pay you people for, honestly? Throw me a bone here! What do we have?

Player 1's dog: Sea Bass.

Player 1: [pause] Right.

Player 1's dog: They're mutated sea bass.

Player 1: Are they ill tempered?

Player Two: Absolutely.

Player 1 : Oh well, that's a start.

@jts1891 Don't understand the term "mainstream" do you?

brainiac1988
brainiac1988

@jts1891 Wrong. If it wouldnt sell, it wouldnt be made in the first place.

The reason it sells so well IS EXACTLY the problem. Games like these make the industry dull, repetitive, brainless and it helps kill overall innovation.

Multi million dollar marketing strategies, lots of buzzwords like 'new engine', etcetera (a flat out LIE btw).

But in the end its its the same game over and over and over and over again.

Major publishers buy out great developers, and turn their franchises into milking cows. They dont care about innovation, they will keep feeding us the same crap until no one buys it anymore. And then they will let it die.

Its not killing the industry, its transforming it into the movie industry. A dull, repetitive place.

Derpalon
Derpalon

@jts1891 There is more than one way to kill the industry besides not selling copies of games. In a sense, when every new game that's released is still the same game, then you're really not selling new games anymore.

@pds314

Metal on contact with other metal in a vacuum, like space, instantly welds themselves together. So a bullet in a gun chamber, would be welded together.

Also, fire is needed to ignite the gunpowder to send the bullet out of the chamber. And oxygen is needed for fire. So there's that.

Nightdragonist
Nightdragonist

@ominous_prime @Nightdragonist I watched it. But the "Space Warfare" is just... pointless. If the story took after MW. Who is the enemy? and why don't you shoot the the rods from earth?

Setho10

@Dasim64 @Qixote Well if you think about it, Medal of Honor was the first really successgul WW2 FPS. The people who made it ended up quitting EA and forming Infinity Ward where they made Call of Duty. Eventually they made Modern Warfare bringing that style of game into the modern era. Then they quit Activision and formed Respawn where they are making Titanfall, so they have definitely gone from WW2 to sci-fi. Also, Black Ops 2 was not very far off from either Crysis or MGS from a weapons tech standpoint. There were no aliens but they had super suits with extra protection and invisibility stuff, weapons that could lock on targets and a bunch of other sci-fi stuff. And in all honesty their ridiculous explanation for it all was even more ridiculous than "nano-technology".

telmor84
telmor84

@Mudo7 @jts1891 still don't think cod is the problem. it's not like it's a monopol, there are hundreds of fps games out there. i tink the main problem is most devs are trying to copy too much of the stuff that works already and not going of of theyr way to bring something new.
