The is very unlikely. Sony seems to have learned their lesson and the architecture of the system alone makes it a lot easier to code for...both systems are using off the shelf parts with some tweaks to them.

The truth is cross-platform games will probably look and run even more identical than they do now. The systems have very similar specs.

And just like this gen., most devs will develop for the lesser system and port to the other. So, once again the PlayStation being a bit more beefy won't matter much.

In some cases, this made the PS3 versions actually look and/or run worse, but the hardware is so close this time around I think they'll be pretty much identical.

Yeah optimization is clearly a huge factor in consoles. Developers get better and better at console optimization due to working with one set of hardware (per console) for years. Where on PC, they have to make sure it works on a broad range of configurations.

With the new gen consoles being so close to PCs, it'll be interesting to see if the PC versions start running better due to possibly being able to benefit from console optimizations.

On paper yes. However, as a console and PC player, I've been pretty surprised how much the developers have been able to squeeze out of current gen and how close the console version of some games look to the PC versions.

I'm expecting the first year or two for the cross -platform games to look pretty dang close (if not identical) and then naturally PC versions will start looking better and better.

Right but that's not 8 GB dedicated to the game. PC's have a lot more overhead than a console.

Current gen Xbox 360 has a half gig total (shared by OS and games) and PS3 has 256 MB available to games...so this is a gigantic upgrade for both systems.

A little misleading. This is for the OS and all the multi-tasking operations going on in the background like broadcasting, recording, downloading, etc. I'm sure the Xbox One will be similar with it's operations and Kinect.

Also, keep in mind BF3 (one of the higher end games on PC out right now) on PC only had about a 1.5-2.0 GB RAM footprint. So, 4-5 GB is a ton for a game.

I played BF3 and BF:BC2 on both 360 and PC to play with different groups of friends. Being able to have one soldier to progress on either system would be a welcome addition, and don't really see how it would matter too much.

Even if the win/accuracy/etc. stats were not shared, just having the rank and unlocks be shared would be awesome.

I'm sure I'm not alone.

Don't you HAVE to download the patch to play online?

As excited as I was for this, I've been in the beta for months and was either bored to tears or it unplayable due to lag every time I logged in. It's been a while though, I need to check it out again.
