DICE considering cross-gen stat migration for Battlefield 4

Developer says it is looking into possibility of allowing players to take their stats and progression from current- to next-gen for upcoming shooter.

DICE is currently looking into the possibility of allowing players to take their statistics and progression from the current-generation versions of Battlefield 4 to the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 iterations, the developer has said.

"We've heard reports that players would like their stats and progression to transfer from current to next-gen in #BF4. We're investigating," reads a tweet from the official Battlefield Twitter account.

No further information about how such a system would work was provided.

Earlier this week, DICE owner Electronic Arts announced that Madden NFL 25 and FIFA 14 Ultimate Teams would carry over from Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 to Xbox One and PS4 if players owned both versions of the game.

Battlefield 4 launches for Xbox 360, PS3, and PC on October 29. The Xbox One and PS4 versions are scheduled to launch later in the year.

I would buy this game for my 360 and the xbox one when I get one.

Stats should definitely carry over. If you play bf4 on xbox 360, upgrade your character, unlock guns etc, when you get the Xbox One for example and get bf4 everything should carry over. Why shouldn't it? Same game, same xbl profile, same player.

Why wouldn't your stats migrate, its only a profile after all. Surely the platform you play on is irrelevant?

It's about time BF 4 had bots in it! these modern days, Everything online is a retarded troll, kid, or hacker who don't know how to play a DAMN game!

Grenadeh

That's retarded. Who is going to buy BF4 for PS3, and then buy it again for PS4? Or two copies on Xbox. Or go from PC to console - that will totally happen, let me tell you. Why even bother.

Sure, it'll cost you only 1.99$ to transfer your data... Oh ? Would said micropayment ?

I am only going to play this on the next gen.... games that are current gen and next gen I will definitely go for next gen, like battlefield, call of duty, watchdogs.

Why play it in ps3 when I can go at ps4? better performance, graphics, more people in one game.... it is just not worth it to buy it in this gen.

This is what I think. and I also believe grand theft auto and grand turismo are making a mistake in no going next gen for their next releases.

I like this idea- it's particularly interesting to people who travel or have multiple homes; if you have a PS3 at one place and a PS4 at another, you can use either to earn XP and unlocks. I think all cross-gen games should implement systems like this. Base everything around what the gamertag/psnID has earned.

Would be a bad idea imo. The current gen versions of the game are gonna have some fundamental differences like lower player count and smaller map size. The core game plays the same yes but those two things will have an effect on stats. Players on the next gen version may on avg have a higher amount of kills per second as result ect. I'm not pressed over stats or anything but im just saying.

I've already given up on this game. The gameplay is nearly identical to BF3 and honestly not too impressive. I wouldn't be surprised if BF is driven into the ground just like MoH. Stop giving me DLC, stupid customization (like camo), and all the other crap like battlelog. Just let me play a fun game. I shouldn't be playing to unlock something or beat a friend, I should be playing because the game is fun at its core.

Is this really a feature that ANYONE would use?  If you buy BF4 for the 360 are you really going to buy it again when you upgrade to XB1 (or PS3 to PS4)?

Dear everyone who can't read and is getting butthurt.

BF4 Current Gen Stats > BF4 Next Gen Stats

NOT

BF3 Stats > BF4 Stats

kidflash2000

that would rock! and even if they make it a feature for Premium members only, still a cool idea

BTW: From what i understood from the article, it means players on PS4 will be able to comparre stats with XOne and PC players, and vice versa...

Pupchu

Thats not a bad idea... =) Cross-platform play would be a better idea, tough. =D

I think it would be better if multiplayer was cross platform. I would love to beat the crap out of Xbox1 kids on PS4

wolf503

I think that's fair. Especially if consumers are willing to buy the game twice. The stats from BF3 should be able to transfer over to. Not exp and levels but stuff like KDR and dog tags that you earned, friends, platoons you're in etc....It would be more effort

@themc_7 I disagree. There are a lot of try-hard colonel 100's online that would ruin the game if they started out with everything.

@Grenadeh this will definitely happen with a lot of people. I own a 360 and when BF4 comes out in a couple months I will buy it for this gen. Some time next year when I upgrade to the new console I'll want to be able to play BF4 on the new system. The game will look better, potentially have 64 player support, and other stuff.

Fastnova00007

@Grenadeh It will happen.  I plan on it.  I own both the PC version and the Xbox 360 version.

themc_7

@Sampawende probably. I'd pay for it tho. If you want to bring over all your guns and upgrades and stuff. Worth it for me

@kelvynabreu It's a tough call. I want to get my hands on these games asap. However they will be better on next gen, but if you're not buying on "day one" you have to wait a long time to play the games. They will still be great on current gen. It's a tough decision; play now, wait and play them on the better system.

xXxIRyanxXx

@kelvynabreu GTA 5 was to far in development to go next gen, Rockstar hasn't ruled out putting it out on next gen eventually, maybe a GOTY edition in a couple years.

Grenadeh

@grey_fox1984 That's still pointless. If you can't bring your ps4 to your other home, you're dumb.

@Gen007 Dont think many people will care. You playing for stats or just playing for fun ?

Fastnova00007
Fastnova00007

@deathstream Yup.  I own both a PC version and 360 version of Bf3.  I am hoping a the xbone comes out earlier in November otherwise I will have to buy both as my wife and I will not want to wait to play the next BF game.  I have over 800 hours on Bf3 right now.

@wolf503 $120 bucks to stat transfer?  Hook line and sinker!  LOL.

@valknight @themc_7 How is it "starting out" if you've already played many hours and leveled your weapons in the same game, just on another platform?

kelvynabreu
kelvynabreu

@themc_7 @kelvynabreu I thought about that, and in the mean time, I will keep playing battlefield 3.

I mean, think of the difference not only in graphics, but 64 players and 60fps in next gen.... to me it's worth the wait, though I want it asap, I will wait and have the better one.

And if you live on a military base because you're a career combat medic, but sometimes sneak home to see your family on the weekend, but don't always want to disconnect everything and pack a bag, dealing with strip down, set up, strip down, set up every time? Are you still "dumb" in that case?

Grenadeh
Grenadeh

@Fastnova00007 @deathstream So do I. I have BF3 on PS3 and I bought two copies before that for PC. PS3 copy was free with plus. No one is going to buy two gen copies of the same game.

Grenadeh

@NoahRoalson @Pupchu If they want cross plat gameplay let them have it. I'll happily rape them senseless with M/KB to show them the error of their logic.

@StarkJJ @Chatch09 Odd... I'm a PlayStation Player and i joined a Halo 4 competition not so long ago, and it's the first time holding the Xbox controller and i got 5th in a few hundred players (Btw Xbox controller is really uncomfortable(But it's my first time))

wolf503
wolf503

@StarkJJ @wolf503 if it's bought on console you could just trade in current gen in for next gen, but by the time anyone would want to convert from current to next (assuming they've played the current gen version a while) the next gen price may have come down (assuming the game was released same time). Either way, I won't be getting BF4 on launch, if at all lol
