Part of the reason for that is because the Japanese publishers stubbornly think that there is no reason to market their games outside of their home country. For every good title that got released in Western markets, 10 never made it past Japanese borders outside of the dedicated gamers who export them.
To be fair, only the publishers care about the money. The problem is that if a developer doesn't meet the publisher's demands on how the game works, and when it has to be released, they say bye-bye to funding. This is why indie gaming has become so big now, zero pressure from publishers mean the game gets to be made how the developers *want* the game to be made.
"We've always felt that the independence we have is one of our core strengths. We can take decisions by going into a room and in 15 minutes we're done,"
In an ideal world, all game developers would have this kind of freedom. All we can do is dream, I suppose...
Forget PCs, forget consoles, I want more videos of super-cute little animals!
I'm actually a PC gamer, but I'm really not that bothered about the whole "next-gen console" thing. As long as I can get to play fun games on my platform of choice, I'll be happy no matter what the industry is doing.
They're not gone yet! If they get the kickstarter success they need on Wildman, we should still see great games from them in the future. Cross your fingers that the kickstarter succeeds :D
So I've heard that the reason Origin has so many members is because the latest Battlefield and Mass Effect games won't run unless you have an Origin account...
I know there are some games that need Steam to run, but none of them have anywhere near the massive popularity of the above two titles. As far as I know, Steam has as many members as it does because people *want* to use it, even with the problems that can come with it *cough*buggyofflinemode*cough*.
@Samael_Hain @Cyber_Skaarj Fair enough if you want a decent amount of freedom in your lives. You just have to be very careful that it doesn't go outside the bounds of common sense, which unfortunately seems to be the case here.
The really unfortunate thing is, even if this sort of thing does get put in place, and a study gets done showing that violence in video games doesn't affect people in the way they're saying, the next big tragedy will still get blamed on gaming, because the extremists won't be swayed, and they have the loudest voices.
This will keep happening until the current generation, who grew up with gaming, are in charge. It was the same story with TV and Music, gaming is just the current scapegoat.
@LiquidGold @MdoRandoms Honestly, I'd say he would bin it. It makes much more sense to have a single console that can run both generations of games than having to have one for each generation, especially if a person has both XBox and PlayStation. A TV only has so many ports to connect into. Likewise you don't want to have to keep changing what plugs are in the power sockets, or have too many power extensions plugged in.
