@tightwad34 Like it or not, a lot of people factor in those titles when deciding on a console purchase. Personally I fell out of love with CoD after 4, FIFA doesn't interest me a great deal, Battlefield will always be a PC game and I'm not getting my hopes up for GTA5 after the mess that they made out of GTA4. But these are the big marquee titles that everyone knows, if you are picking out one console for a family why buy the one that doesn't have the games for the teenagers? Particularly when Sony (not so much Microsoft) has a great selection of first party titles for younger games too.

He has a point. I think Nintendo are catering for a market that is shrinking. Yes the Wii sold like hot cakes, yes they made a ton of money on it and yes they continue to make year over year profits even when the other two aren't. However as far as the Wii U goes Nintendo are getting stale, the Wii had the motion control gimmick, was really cheap for anyone to buy and had a load of kid friendly games. It was nigh on perfect for the side of the market that they were going for. The Wii U doesn't do that, the name alone doesn't translate well for parents looking to buy a new console for the kids, they simply haven't marketed it well enough to a point that it is easy to understand to the average joe what it is when compared to the Wii. The older nostalgia crowd is shrinking and to be perfectly frank are getting sick of the rehashes (I'm speaking for myself primarily here to avoid flamers but I know other late 20 and early 30s gamers feel the same).

Nintendo have the creativity to put out some really interesting titles, I/we want to see something completely new and off the wall from them. Make us interested again, get those third party guys involved. Imagine what the indie crowd could come up with with the tablet control!

I see a lot of threads on r/gaming from people saying what they want from next gen, personally I would like Nintendo to catch up with the times. I want to want a Wii U, I would have played the crap out of the Wii if it was in HD. Yes as superficial as it may be just rendering in at least 720p makes a difference, TV's are bigger now and stretching an SD image over an HD panel of any size blurs the picture (again speaking personally but know more people feel the same way) and that great diminishes my experience with he console. Now we have that Wii HD and there is near nothing to get really excited about.

Come on Nintendo get the publishers interested, get your first party developers some new ideas and most importantly make us want to want a Wii U.

Doesn't work for me in the Middle East even though I still pay the same Gold price as the rest of you guys. My free PS3 games on Plus work though.

@edant79 That is because currently PS3 is not allowed of DoD networks (at least that is what I have read). So if that carries over to the PS4 then they are really excluded. It is flat out ridiculous.

People do get stuck in their ways, but $100 is a fair bit of a difference regardless of financial standing it will at least make them think twice. And the bad press currently surrounding the machine is certainly not helping.

If I had to make a forecast I would say Microsoft are dead in Japan for the next gen (but this is nothing surprising), they will lose a lot of the converts in Europe back to Sony as Playstation is the brand of choice in that area and most of the new features in the Xbone will not function over there. Same with the Middle East (I only bring them up since I live there and know what people buy over here). The fight will be over the US, I'm not sure where that will go

Agreed. They have worked themselves into a corner and aren't helping themselves by not coming up with good enough reasons as to why you want an Xbox One over a PS4 or Wii U. Point being though that they should have been able to foresee the reaction fans would have to the Kinect being bundled and always on and steered around it by engineering the console to function without it, but then launching with a Kinect bundle for an extra $50. Even the core gamers would see value in that. Currently I see no reason as to why the Xbox One absolutely needs the Kinect to function. It will be used the same way the one we have now is used, a few voice commands and optional support in games. No developer in their right mind would shoe horn it in as a requirement, people do not want to yell at their TVs.

I don't think it is outright stupidity. There is loose logic behind what they have done if you look at each move individually but when you add them all up...... no yeah you're probably right it is stupidity and arrogance.

They are Sony circa 2005. But who knows we could all be eating our words 4 years from now, Sony turned it around and are actually ahead if you look at the current number of consoles sold (only a slither but still). We all laughed at the Wii too but they seemed to do ok even if the game attachment rate was terrible.

Microsoft need damage control and fast. The Kinect has run its course we (and that is including the casual market) didn't ask for nor do we need the Kinect. Forcing it into the base package pushing up the price point $100 over your competition is a bad move. The casual market they want to address with the Kinect also will not be willing to pay a full $60 for Kinect based games and the fact that used games will have such restrictions pretty much closes them out of that market altogether. Not to mention the fact the additional costs involved in integrating Kinect into games when most core players don't want it, makes it a complete waste.

If a casual player is looking for a console with only the information supplied to them by a store clerk and what is on the box I'm sure that 9/10 times they will walk away with either a PS4 or Wii U, based on costs alone. Yes games matter but the vast majority of them are now third party and if the past 1-2 years are anything to go by Microsoft does have the weaker first party line up as well.

I'm not trying to bash the XboxOne just looking at the numbers and facts, Microsoft have put themselves into a bad position in relation to Sony and Nintendo and they are only now seeing this.

As a disclaimer, personally I will be buying both as currently I do play more on my 360 than PS3 but then again I'm probably in the minority here.

I don't agree with the comments on Titanfall. That does looks truly fun. Ryse should not have been pushed near the front and given a demo, it was so scripted and it's heavy use of quick time events for combat is a really stupid design choice, definitely not the game you pick for showing off your new console. The Forza human AI thing was pretty cool, I liked the look of Dead Rising but again they needed to just flood the screen with zombies to get the point across that this isn't possible with current gen.

Last thing, am I the only one that wondered why the hell does Master Chief, a guy in a full suit of high tech armour that can survive a fall from space need a damn poncho?
