Trophies > Achievements ??

With firmware 2 40 due shortly. One of the features will be a 2d representaion of the trophies you will get in home. Who else thinks this will be better than some random score on a gamercard.

i think achievements are better because of their simplicity .. a single score is way easier to compare than trophies

and that's partly why people love achievements so much .. competition and bragging

The score is always displayed next to your username.. Trphies is more like the achievements themselfs which have pictures that you can look at in the "achievement section.

gamerscore > trophies (just another name for "pictures of achievements").

To anyone saying that trophies are better if you actually bothered to play a 360 or even look at the achievements screen you would see that various different achievements have their own unique picture associated with them (if the dev can be bothered to make them)

Therefore, Trophies are exactly the same as what 360 owners have except achievements have a pointless number associated with them.

Its pretty much an icon verus a torphy sprite. Its all about accesability and what works better. IMO, its would have to be the achievements; with it quick access and scoring. I find torphy is be on another level, it more like, I got all these torphies, but they are located in my special room in virtual space. Its a nice idea more a show case of yourself and fiends willing to go that extra mile to view them. I just personally perfer that easy access to them, so anyone can quickly see your so called 'achievements'.

Tho from what I hear, both will have some usage of unlocking stuff in games, thats a nice thing all around.

XBL basically has both. Achievements not only have a description, but they also have their value in gamerpoints and a little picture.

Im guessing whats different with Trophies is that the little picture is in the shape of a trophy! :o Must be better!/sarcasm

Do you have to be in Home to see them?

Or are they available right in the XMB?

Or will the firmware update just prepare the system for upcoming that will have trophies?

Is the data readily available to community/fan developers to create cool things like the 360 gamercards?

What about older PS3 games? Will devs create trophies for those and retrofit the games with updates? Or are they out of luck?

a trophy will be nothing be more then a drawing or a badge, most people wont even bother to read more then one or two trophys you unlock, at least gamescore gives you an overall view.

hes saying that you can show off trophys but not achievements, well then he could start explaining why so many achievement whores keep showing off ther gamercard, their scores. the games they have been playing lately and what achivements in general they unlocked

Well trust me, while you may not know what a hypocrite is, you sure are being one right now.

Each achievement has both a number and an icon attached to it. The number adds to your cumulative Gamerscore and the icon is there to let other folks compare their achievements to yours, seeing at a glance what you have versus their own collection of achievements.

Oh and you don't need to pay $50 a year to unlock achievements. While that weak attempt at bashing the 360 may have failed miserably, I'll give you an A for effort. :wink:

I'm guilty of viewing gamercards of players I'm about to play in Gears. It helped majority of the time to show who were experienced and who weren't by what they unlocked. For example people who had the different 100 weapon achievement would usually be better players than compare to someone who doesn't have them(not the case all the time).
