A point system is easier for bragging rights and comparison.
Although, visually, trophies do look nice.

Do you have a link to these nice looking trophies so that we can see them in action since you claim they're nice and all?
[QUOTE="Dreams-Visions"]And no, trophies are not better than achievements. let's not go crazy. they are cool, though.

Uh... why not? You get points like the 360 achievements plus cool trophies to deck out your PS Home with. Until that comes out, you still have the 2D ones.
can you see a trophy someone has mid-game?[QUOTE="dewmandew7"][QUOTE="Dreams-Visions"]And no, trophies are not better than achievements. let's not go crazy. they are cool, though.

can you see a trophy someone has mid-game?No, you have to look at it thru home, which will make it lose it's appeal.

can you see a trophy someone has mid-game?Should be able to. Since we're getting 2D trophies, I assume they'll be viewable from the XMB. Since they're releasing in-game XMB in the next update as well, I don't see why not.
Also, based on games that have already come out with "Accomplishments" (Turok, Devil May Cry 4), there will be point values for trophies, probably the same system that they are using for XBL.

The guy 3 posts up said exactly the opposite. I'm more inclined to believe his answer, based on how HOME is designed. With firmware 2 40 due shortly. One of the features will be a 2d representaion of the trophies you will get in home. Who else thinks this will be better than some random score on a gamercard.
XBL is losing its edge over the PSN fast.
carlisledavid79
Well nowadays EVERYONE gets a trophy for trying.....you actually have to EARN an achievement. Put your helmet back on and go back to the kids table.

...wtf? You know hot to get trophies? :|
Isn't sony implementing an "Achomplishment score" as well as trophies.
In reality its the exact same as an Achivment score and the picture of the achievment.
And the Psn is gaining on XBL but its a slow process so far.
muff07
which is halarious considering all they're doing to copying XBL, how hard can it be.

I don't even get your sig?? Generally..exactly, IN GENERAL?
They are both cool, I like how gamerscore can be shown all the time, but if devs put some effort in, trophies could be cool.

Oh you mean you get an image instead of a number, just like Xbox 360s achievements? Those right? Oh..wait. It's just Sony copying what achievements are, what a shock. Enjoy playing catch up.

Leave him alone.
I look forward to the trophies no doubt, but I dont think they will be "better" than achievements. They're the same thing, instead of looking at a number, you look at a cartoon trophy, lol.
I look forward to Home though, for the first time I am actually really excited about it. After seeing what Ubisoft did for "Ubidays" in Home, I cant wait. Just imagine if Sony has an "E3 themed" Home during E3, now that will be awesome.
I'm not a fanboy, and I'm not saying Home > XBL, but I really think Home could be an advantage for Sony. It will be something that MS has to counter no doubt, the same way Sony countered Live with the PSN and Home.

7 pages of guys/girls repeating themselves.
7 pages of one kid being "owned"
I think this has already been wrapped up fellers.

just out of curiosity when was the last time you used your gamertag?
about 3 months ago when trying to play halo 2.5 lagfest online but got RROD
3 months ago? well then i got your gamercard right here
it says you last logged on 5 minutes ago and that you never have played a single 360 game in your life
how about that?
did you think we wouldnt know if you created a gamertag just for this thread?
LOOOL we all know PS John is a sony nuthugger......o yea owned!!!
Do you have to be in Home to see them?
Or are they available right in the XMB?
Or will the firmware update just prepare the system for upcoming that will have trophies?
Is the data readily available to community/fan developers to create cool things like the 360 gamercards?
What about older PS3 games? Will devs create trophies for those and retrofit the games with updates? Or are they out of luck?
VoodooHak
PS_John being embarrassed actually brings up a relevent question:
Will trophies be tracked the way achievements are tracked? Will each have date stamp?
This also brings up a strength of XBL. The moment you load up a game, it's recorded that you played the game and when. Will PSN do this?

Ownage approved and certified!
They're pretty much both the same anyway.JetSetWilly2008if I can't see my trophies or my friends and adversaries trophies in-game, trophies are worthless to me.
part of the fun of achievements is being able to compare what you've accomplished directly with someone else's whom you may meet in random multiplayer games.
If it doesn't offer that, I'm apathetic.
whats the difference between a score and trophy? both represent the same thing.6matt6
It's not so much what they represent. The question is what can you do with them?
With achievements, you can easily share them. They're tracked with a date stamp. Easily viewable in-game and out.
Sure, PSN can do them also. But... did Sony think it all the way through? How does it benefit the community?

No one has any real idea how Trophies will work so it's all speculation.
Videogaming247 has learnt that the upcoming in-game XMB - heavily rumoured to be included in PS3's Firmware 2.40 - may not work with all PS3 titles, and that user-music and Trophies functionality is only being included as an option for Sony developers from this point on.
The user-music functionality is only included in the new development tools, which have now gone out to coders. This means that existing games won't support it unless they're patched. That's right: you won't be able to play GTA IV with your own music unless Rockstar updates the game, if what we've been told this morning is true.
Same for Trophies. They tools required to add these are only just in the hands of developers, which means it's going to be some time before you see the feature appear in a major game.
It depends.
Trophies may be better as with home you can look at them and show your friends, ats a more visual recognition of what you have done.
But will it also give you points to make some sort of a gamerscore? If not then I dont think it will be as good as achivements.
A great I dea in my opinion would be to have a sort of gamerscore 9but called something else) and then you could use that to unlock stuff for your avatar on Home. apparently you get clothes for doing stuff but it would be better if you could choose your own things.

Look, I get where you are going with this, I do. But Sony passing M$ in their online service is akin to Sony putting out a GUI to top Windows. Its not going to happen. This is one of Microsofts major strengths, and Sony will not beat them at it. Adversely, Sony WILL learn from what Microsoft does with their online services, and they will markedly improve, which is good for PS3 owners, but they will never top them.
That aside, the trophies are another example of what I am talking about. Sony is copying Microsofts achievement system, and they are doing it because its wildly successful. There is nothing wrong with that, and it will increase alot of PS3 gamers replayibility.
Just keep in mind, comments like XBL is losing its edge over PSN and such is silly. What you are calling an "edge" is more like the gap of earth called the Grand Canyon.
