Splatoon has sold over 1 million units WW

It has been confirmed by nintendo that splatoon has sold over 1 million units worldwide.

Splatoon has sold over 476000 physical and digital copies in the Americas,over 368000 copies in Japan,over 230000 copies in Europe and has sold 20000 copies in Australia and New Zealand

I wonder what @StealthMonkey4 will have to say about this. He tried his very best to convince everyone the game was a flop outside of Japan. To my knowledge, it hit a million in roughly the same time frame as Bloodborne, on a console that is entirely dead.

This game is fun, just wish the local multiplayer was better, it's not that fun.

@CountBleck12: You dont like the dual screen battles? I enjoyed practicing and battling local coop. I guess the local multiplayer is kinda plain, but its good to goof off. Would be good to have something other than just getting ballons, but i cant think of other modes except capture the flag or something.

Nintendo Land and Wii Party both sold well over a million.

Hyrule Warriors too, but yeah, I guess that's Zelda.

Given the marketing push and games drought, not exactly a big surprise. Not particularly impressive, but more than I had initially predicted (although I had also severely underpredicted Nintendo marketing efforts). This game is said to have had a MK8 marketing push but only sold a fraction of what that did.

Overall, I'm disappointed that more gamers didn't speak out with their wallet against incomplete games lacking basic features, but on the other hand, severe gaming droughts can make you buy games you normally wouldn't.

Is this the part where we complain that incomplete games don't deserve to be selling well, or do we only do that for publishers like EA or Ubisoft?

Cool though. Hope Nintendo does more new IPs then. They should.

I'm extremely happy that this IP will have a bright future! I was quite sceptical about how well it would be doing. This is much better than I expected!

To me its their best new IP since the Gamecube.

More evidence that sheep buy anything made by Nintendo :P If it had an EA/Ubi/Acti logo on it, with all the lack of content and basic features missing, it would have been a massive flop.

Well, WiiU owners starving on games and buy just anything at this point. Nice to see something else than Mario games sell tho, nice indeed.

I wouldn't be surprised if it was over 2 million and maybe even over 2.5 million after Christmas

@super600: 2.5 million? In it's first year? Doubtful. Unless hardware price drop + game pack in become a thing. Even so Smash, Mario Kart and 3D World will continue to hog the newcomers.

It's already >50% to 2 million less than a month after it released. I think 2 million is very possible and 2.5 million is not out of the question by the end of the year. The game also seems to be appealing a bit to non WiiU owners. I think this game will continue to sell well until the end of august and maybe the rest of the year.

Seriously, Wii U owners have plenty quality titles to play, don't worry.

It's pointless to appeal to non-WiiU owners. They still won't buy the damn thing :P In that regard, as soon as MS and Sony drop their price Ninty will have to respond. Consumers see more value on those two platforms, even at a higher price, so unless they also drop future new owner will likely continue to be few.

Regarding Splatoon, if I'm not mistaken this is the 10th game to surpass 1 million sales on the WiiU. But out of those 10, again if I'm not mistaken, only the big hitters have had...well, bigger hits in sales. So that's why I think it's doubtful. However the fact that's literally the only thing worth a damn until Xenoblade may very well work in it's favour. Or not. Who knows. ~ 1/10 WiiU owners is already great I guess :P

You also have to remember that it also appeals to a wider audience(like MK8 ) then some of the other games nintendo released that failed to hit a million or hit a million months after they released on the WiiU. II don;t think the game will sell as well as mario kart 8 anyway.I was referring to people that were never interested in a WiiU buying a WiiU for splatoon. I heard of people buying WiiU's for splatoon.I don't think nintendo expects splatoon to grab a ton of people that don't already own a WiiU

At this point the best way to sell these new games and even the current hardware seems to be to tie-in a bunch of Amiibos. I don't doubt that the new Yoshi game will have some decent sales due to the Amiibo factor. It's literally a money printing device if Ninty manage it correctly.

It is however ironic to see sheep pay $60 for an early access game :P

Nintendo needed this game at the start of the gen to highlight the WiiU features of the WiiU Gamepad but instead chose the middle of the gen or the end of the gen as im unsure wtf is happening with the WiiU.

Wait, all I ever read is that Nintendo can't and don't release new IPs - they only rely on their established brands and they're lazy.

This game appeals to younger WiiU owners. All of the content being unlocked is free anyway even though it's locked behind the disc.I think a lot more people would have hated the game if you had to pay for the content.I kinda don't like that they did this also.

@super600: It's not "free". You literally already payed for it. Most of it is on the disc. Of what is already inside the disc, much of it is in a near complete state, some of of it isn't.

The updates aren't free just because. The game literally launched in an early access state for $60. It'll only be "complete" by August (assuming there are no delays with the updates).

There is of course room for paid DLC later on, but that's a different story.
