A $450 manufacturing costs is pretty high for a console these days. There are R&D and packaging/shipping costs to recoup too. The days of selling consoles at a loss are long gone and these new consoles are gonna be more expensive than most predicted. Get your wallets ready!

And $500 is still a fantastic price for what you’ll be getting.

Meh, the 600 dollars for the PS3 would have translate to roughly 800 dollars today. So it is still pretty cheap all things considered.

Not that I would buy a PS5 anyways.

I think its worth it. Last you many years to come and hopefully fully backwards compatible. Be interesting whether MS or Sony officially announce first and the price difference between the two. To be fair I don't really care if something ended up 500 instead of 400, not a big deal a 100 dollars, whatever I just want to get the best possible hardware that they can offer outside of PC.

$500 would be fine if it's worth it performance wise and has exclusives within the launch window.

Let’s see, 500 for a console (PS5)with games or 500 for a console( XBS1) without games. I guess it’s not a bad price .

@JustPlainLucas: I'm with you there. Would pay a premium for full PS1-4 backwards compatability. If not, I'll hold out for the inevitable slim model.

oh OP stop posting misinformation. Nothing In that article states that Sony had to cancel camera features for the PS5, It says “ Sony has already canceled some previously planned features for a new mirrorless camera “ It’s pretty obvious you don’t even know what a mirror less camera is, maybe you should google it.

£500 is what I expected it still sounds a bit expensive but the specs rumoured hard to see it any less expensive.

What the hell are you talking about? I posted tweets referring to a Bloomberg article. I didn't say anything about a mirrorless camera or cut features. People in the know did, however. Does that article upset you? Take it up with Bloomberg and their sources.

Your post HAH.

I am sure the cross gen part is about 3rd party games been on both PS4 and PS5,and now about exclusives, unless you want to believe that sony will have MANY first party games at launch.

You need to read between line.

MANY PS5 games..

In what generation has sony had MANY first party launch games.?

This reffer to 3rd party games were many will be on PS4 and PS5,like COD and other not about exclusives, unless you want to believe that sony will have many first party games at launch which is never the case.

Not a bad price at all if true. Let's look at how much a comparable PC would cost at current prices.

$399 5700 XT(PS5 likely faster)

$329 3700X CPU

$250 2TB SSD

$50 power supply

$60 Dualshock 5

$50 Blu Ray drive

$100 16GB Ram

$50 case

$30 cables

$50-100 cooling

Looking at $1300+ for the PC, not a good deal at all.

@nfamouslegend: Yeah, it won't have a 3700x comparable CPU, it will be similar to the mobile 4xxx variants. 2TB is a pipe dream, case will be dirt cheap, cooling won't be $50+ etc... Thats where these companies save money. You people are hilarious.

I will have to see what's in it but i'm not against a 500 dollar console in principle or anything.

i mean its an 8 core zen2 CPU, something around 2070 super levels of performance in the GPU maybe (it'll have ray tracing...of some sort. may not have the equivalent of tensor cores...or maybe it will....who knows?), 12+GB of GDDR6 ram (i would imagine), 1TB fast SSD, blu-ray drive, PS5 controller. for 500 bucks that's not bad.

I wonder are they also focusing on making the cooling quieter this time? It was one of the common issues with the original PS4 model and the PS4 pro i hear: the system was not that quiet.

It says in another post that cooling will be a few bucks as opposed to less than a dollar. It's likely they're using a stock CPU cooler equivalent, which already comes with AMD CPUs. PC's don't need Bluray drives either. It's basically all digital now. What are the $30 in cables I wonder?

What will be laughable is if they're asking $500USD for a 9tf system. Then tell us how much its worth it because loading screens are almost gone.

If its actually powerful, $500 is a perfect price.

Well if we're doing that, why does the PC need 16 GB? The PS5 will use at least 16 GB or RAM to be shared by the system and the GPU. In that PC build, you have an 8GB GPU and 16 extra GB. That's not really comparable either.

Lets not be silly here. The rumors to this point were PS5 $399 Xbox One Series X $499. Knowing that the PS5 is looking like a $499+ box, that changes what we've thought about next gen pricing to this point. I've said all along the Series X sounds like a $600+ console. That's looking even more likely today.

True. CPU coolers smaller than the stock cooler that came with my Ryzen 5 ensure a short hardware life. Heck, I was on my third or fourth Xbox 360 before the XBO came out. Tally up the cost of those and it cost about double the gaming PC I built in 2013, and is still running today with better graphics than either the XBO or PS4. Someone else is gaming on that PC now though.

Your list has hundreds of useless dollars with added parts like cables, extra cooling. bluray, 2tb ssd. In 5 minutes I was able to put together a PC that would be comparable to the PS5. For around $970 with RX 5700xt, and with RTX 2070 a tad over 1k.

I mean you see where I'm headed with this right? There's no real way to accurately spec console equivalent PC's. And anyone building a PC with that kind of budget isn't trying to match console performance in the first place.

I can see both boxes at $599 if they're really supposed to be mind blowing next gen upgrades. Having cross gen games lets them get away with it for a while. Honestly though, if they are 600, I might hold off until a price drop.

You aren't wrong, 600 in todays dollars would be around 750 which is insane still. The 300 dollar Xbox360 amounts to around 400 today, which is the sweet spot for a console. I'm not paying 500 especially at launch for it to sit there for a couple years.
