PS5 to cost $500+?!?!?!

MS should wait out Sony and make them sweat, but MS has balls and will price it they way they want to as a Sony rep hides behind a bush at MS headquarters to hopefully sneak a peek the price through the window LOL.

I completely figured the ps5 would cost atleast $500, if it goes for anything less at launch I will be pleasantly shocked. Doesn't seem like a big deal to me.

That defeats any major console price point advantage for me.

Add in PSN costs for one gen and I'm actually saving money while playing the much better looking and running games and far better online.

This thread is useless, not even Sony decided on a price yet. It is very well possible Sony sells them at a loss for 400 bucks (or even lower) to dominate the next gen and make the money back...

Well a GPU on that level gos now for $400 or more,so you are not saving much,oh and you probably will not beat the PS5 or series X by much,and if you end up buying a GPU which is considerable more powerful yeah you will pay more than the PS5 amd series X while just upgrading your GPU alone.

@zaryia: fair point if you already have a good PC, but many people don't. Both platforms have their advantages and drawbacks. With new consoles you get a level playing field where online cheating is difficult, lower price to entry for good hardware, ability to have multiple games in sleep mode, console exclusives and a baseline fast SSD that may be hard for PC to emulate.

With PC you free online multiplayer, mods, customers hardware configuration, some PC exclusives, but generally much more hassle dealing with driver updates, game crashes, multiple game stores etc.

How much bigger and nosier is you PC that you upgrading?

That must play a factor when comparing with console.

If you go smaller the cost goes higher.

That's where the PSN costs come in. That's around $400 per gen.

That being said PC will probably still be more expensive even when just upgrading. It's better so it costs more. That's how the world works.

Do you have a reliable link that shows how many games each console this gen has? Just curious. I'm not saying you're wrong, I would just like to see it.

If Sony can boost up the Value of PSNow Service where it's a must buy, could def. See ps5 being sold at a loss where PSNow/PSN picks up the slack. Kind of what Xbox is doing with Gamepass/Xcloud

If either of these consoles come in at this kind of price I'd say it's a good deal. I'll buy a PS5 for top notch exclusives and even a Series X is a great buy for the money for people who can't afford a good PC if you consider Game Pass as part of the deal.

I just looked at both Wiki articles and if they are updated then yeah, they are really close. I had no idea it was such a small gap either way.

I'm not even sure if we gonna get PS5 this year tbh. If the Chinese bioweapon keeps spreading maybe it gets delayed or even canceled. PS5 should of been shown this February, instead Sony is canceling everything from GDC to PAX.

Imo, kind of. With it being locked to gaming, it seems expensive. The price runs contrary to mainstream gamers who typically don't want to pay a lot just to game. The same gamers who would buy a GTX **50 Ti or GTX **60 class graphics cards.

This is why $400 has always been the upper limit as to what people are willing to pay.

I actually don't mind PS5 being $500 because well new technology/upgrades but I have to get an 8k on top of that worth - at least 2k :x

Not really. The SNES was like $199 on launch. $400 now isn't the same as in 1989. The PS2 was $299. Inflation is a thing.

A lower price is typically more attractive to consumers without a doubt. But, I would argue that when the price drops to almost half the price of the original these companies are just scrapping the bottom of the barrel as in they are getting people who don't really game.

Depends who you ask. $500 is pretty much alot of money is how I see it nor do I think having $500 makes you rich either. I always believe $500 for a next-gen console should be the standard for what you are getting.
