So Sony was smarter sooner than MS? K.
Shuhei Yoshida said that Sony changed it's policy after the reaction to Microsoft announcing it's policy with the Xbox One. So I wouldn't say they were smarter sooner. Going second put them in a position to look like the hero. Sony being so quiet on the subject in the end is what saved them. Microsoft put it all out there and paid for it.
Yep I saw the link, my comment was in reaction to that exact source. MS took their sweet time retracting there position, well after they would have had preorder numbers.
I don't think it's that simple. A company can't flipflop after 24hrs every time fans throw their toys out of the pram.
Steam wouldn't even exist if Valve didn't initially force that shit down everyones throat, everyone hated it. Even now, steam sales are the only reason it's tolerated.
A company has to give it some time and consider everything and then come to a decision. Valve were in a position where they could bend the consumer over the table and force the steam client if you wanted to play their games. And in the PC games market they can do that. MS, after considering the competition and the gamers, they knew it would never work out. Every company does this. They usually play out a bad idea for a bit before dropping it,
People who think they did it just because of preorder numbers are just overly cynical and really not thinking it through. And the people that think MS are going to be the ones to push DRM again first are mad, MS haven't got the guts to be the first to push such a radical idea again. And Sony won't because they dont push anything. I really don't know where this leaves the idea of a digital only console, because no ones going to have the balls to push on with that anymore.
