Is $50 too much for TLOU Remastered?

#1 Edited by seanmcloughlin (38151 posts) -

TLOU Remastered's price popped up on NeoGAF with sites showing a $50 price tag for the port

Amazon

Target

I personally thought it was too high a price for what the version of the game is offering. I am interested in playing it again in a shinier more complete fashion but at $50 I'm not so sure it's a day 1 buy anymore.

Naughty Dog had previously hinted that they were working on a system to give the original game owners a discount but nothing was since heard.

So what do you think? Is $50 too much for what is essentially the same game?

It's for people that haven't played it. If you have yet to play it or don't own it, then that's a fair price.

$50 for a year old 8 hour game? lol

#4 Posted by lundy86_4 (42622 posts) -

It's not terrible. So long as it stays at $50 in Canada, then It's not a big deal.

#5 Posted by Blabadon (25187 posts) -

Yep. I think Dell is offering a 25 buck gift card with it

#6 Edited by lostrib (31476 posts) -

Well the original is 30 on amazon plus 20 for season pass doc or just 15 for story dlc. So it's not awful if you don't own the game

People on GAF saying it's $70 in canada

I saw this earlier. Personally I was expecting it to retail for $60 at launch, so in a way I guess this is a positive development. Still not low enough for me though. First time I see it at $30 I'll snap up a copy as I've not played it yet.

I get that people haven't played it and this might be their first time but things lose value over time and considering it doesn't offer anything new to what we can already buy then I'd say it's a bit high. $40-45 was what I was hoping for

#10 Posted by ConanTheStoner (4463 posts) -

Well, not for me. I only played a few hours of TLOU so I'll definitely be picking this up.

I remember this being a big argument a couple of months back, but I really don't see the issue. Games get ported from one console to another all the time. If this game would have been ported to the 360 at full price (yes I know it's a Sony owned game) I doubt there would have been any issue.

But because it's being ported up to a new Sony console, suddenly it's something to argue about.

Anyways, it's just like anything else. Don't like it? Don't think the price is reasonable? Don't buy it.

#12 Posted by ConanTheStoner (4463 posts) -

Doesn't Matter, Cows are gona buy it anyway because PS4 got no games..... ;) !

I'm just yanking your chain ! :p

I mean... you're not exactly wrong lol.

This game will be a reason for me to use my PS4.

#13 Edited by Lulu_Lulu (8568 posts) -

@ConanTheStoner

They should also make a GOTY Edition for the PS3 aswel with all the DLC and I note from Naughty Dog saying "Graphics Don't Matter". I'd buy that one instead.... You know.... if I had a PS3..... That should've been my 7th gen Console :(

I honestly think all this complaining about the the remastered edition price is fukin stupid. The game is only a year old at this point. Your're not only getting an upgraded version of the game, you are also getting the 15$ single player dlc as well as 20$ worth of multiplayer map packs.

When this game was first announced, it was a 60$ product. Now its 50$, and people still aren't satisfied?

lol mems post.

#16 Posted by PrincessGomez92 (3221 posts) -

With all the additional content you're getting with it, I'd say it's pretty reasonable.

the game is longer than 8 hours, unless youre trying to speedrun it. it took me 15 on my first playthrough

You must be really slow then.

I'm pretty sure that mems actually liked the game and is once again being a very successful troll all too easily.

Never played it so $50 is fine with me.

I have the PS3 game, and even paid the $20 for the season pass for it, and I'm still buying this day one, notasinglefuk given.

It was a great game, and the chance to play its multiplayer (which I still enjoy, and am playing right now on PS3 despite having a PS4 to play) with the Dualshock 4 (a controller that isnt the worst controller ever made) with shooting and aiming mapped to the triggers instead of R1/L1, plus being able to play the multiplayer in 60fps, etc.....

For those interested, once I get an Xbox One, I also intend to buy the MC Collection.

  • original is still $30 on Amazon
  • includes all DLC
  • runs at 60 fps
  • 1080p with improved visuals

No, I don't think $50 is that much to ask considering not only how recent the game released, but the content that comes along with it. How people can expect such a thing to be $20 or whatever blows my mind.

#24 Posted by silversix_ (13544 posts) -

and HD port should never cost over 29.99 and a full remaster (like what they're doing with halo series) 49.99

#25 Posted by uninspiredcup (6795 posts) -

Console gamers are use to being scammed. Pc gamers use mods.

#26 Posted by Bigboi500 (28804 posts) -

Yeah it's a little high.

Your Christopher Walken impression is uncanny.

Also yes it's too much for people who already own it. They should come up with a way to allow current owners a discount for upgrading, like checking trophies on PSN or entering serial numbers or something.

For people who've never played though I think that's a decent price.

things lose value over time, but some games will still be full price or close to it 1 year later. Last of Us was still $60 for the vanilla version where I lived until the ps4 remaster was announced. GTA V is still full price new where I live.

would like it to be even cheaper, but eh. I figure, there will likely be some kind of trade in deal at gamestop. Think I could right now Afterall, if you are going to be serious about thinking about double dipping, why bother keeping the original copy around. Dunno how much they'd give for it normally now, but technically ps4 version was shown at e3, so there's 2 days left to get a 40% bonus. Sure closure to launch, there may be deals for trading in towards that specifically.

#30 Posted by ReadingRainbow4 (12777 posts) -

Does this come with the DLC?

IDK, TLOU is one of the best games ever made, but I'd probably feel more comfortable with a $40 price point.

alot of welfies in this thread. $50 is very reasonable.

#33 Edited by hoosier7 (3669 posts) -

Not really, course it will be hard to justify if you've already played in through on PS3but i think they're really targeting this at gamers who won't have played it. Sony gave out some stats last week and there's a lot of PS4 buyers apparently who didn't own a PS3.

#34 Posted by Jynxzor (9280 posts) -

For a new purchase? Yeah it's worth it.

For a person who has played it on PS3 and beaten it? Hell no, I'll pick up a digital version when it's on sale sometime.

#37 Posted by Pffrbt (6357 posts) -

Yes. Anything over $7 is too much for TLOU period. It's a shit game that may as well have just been a movie.

#38 Posted by cainetao11 (15809 posts) -

@seanmcloughlin:

You're going to get responses of "its for those who haven't played it yet". Like Sony execs sat in a room and looked at the sales of TLOU, and see every year how well Madden and COD sell, and somehow came to the conclusion it will sell to gamers who haven't played it. It is being done because gamers will wet their pants and buy it again because of a resolution upgrade. Its logical business strategy. For me, looking at what is offered in other remasters, Halo MC, GoW collection etc, yes it is too high for what is offered.

#39 Posted by Lulu_Lulu (8568 posts) -

@cainetao11

Yep.... Can't argue with that. Which is really saying something because I argue with everything.

Agreed 100%, Gamespot gave it an 8 because they didn't receive their check from Sony.

#41 Posted by UnbiasedPoster (628 posts) -

Considering the game will barely be a year old, I consider it more as an upscaled port rather than an HD remake. Therefore, $50 seems fair and below what I thought it would have been. I want to hear equal amounts of bitching when GTA launches, because no way that will be under $50.

#42 Edited by StrongBlackVine (8403 posts) -

I already bought Collector's Edition and single player DLC on PS3 so yeah it is bit high. I plan to sell my PS3 disc(keeping the steelbook) for like $25 so that will make it a little more tolerable.

That's what's so amazing about Sony exclusive. They cause so much butthurt and jelly among lemmings, sheep, and hermits. It's just so funny to watch.

Yeah the more I think about it the more I feel this way. For first time buyers it's a good deal considering all the DLC is in it

#45 Posted by Pray_to_me (2735 posts) -

I'd get it if I hadn't already beat it twice game is off the hook and will be gorgeous in 1080P

#46 Posted by getyeryayasout (6874 posts) -

I played it on my PS3, so for me $50 is too steep a price. My buddy who was 360 only last gen, has his copy prepaid and is marking the days until he gets to experience TLoU for the first time. I envy him.

#47 Posted by GamersJustGame (99 posts) -

@seanmcloughlin: The price is right.

The game is a year old and i believe it is $50 for PS3. If you have it for the PS3 your not who they are targeting. This remake is mostly for people who haven't got the PS3 verison. I never picked it up for the PS3. I will be picking it up soon.
