God of War - TLOU Edition

Do you agree or disagree with what they did to God of War?

• No hit counter
• Over the shoulder angle
• Experience points
• Ellie style son companion for at least some portion of the game
• Cinematic style (not that GoW didn't have those cinematic moments, but the one that was shown was garbage compared to, say, Poseidon in GoW 3).

I'm actually really not happy with this. God of War was always an awesome hack n' slash and I was really looking forward to what Santa Monica would be capable of using the PS4.

It looks beautiful, don't get me wrong, but this is NOT what God of War is.

What i thought it looked great. Love games with a story, i wish MS had more games like this.

I'm glad they got rid of fixed cameras. PS4 hardware is finally allowing them to do big ass boss battles without using tricks like fixed camera and stuff to save memory. Not to mention, it would've looked outdated, in a bad way.

I think they are going for more TLOU style characterization because they want Kratos to be more likeable character instead of being a mass murdering maniac.

Yeah, it defiitely looks to play a lot slower. I'll reserve judgement until I play it, but it's a pretty big shift.

Thats what PS4/sony exclusives are. movie cinematic games.

I know what you mean. I just feel like there are so many same style games. God of War was always unique. Now it's just another over the shoulder game. I don't know man, it was really disappointing to see.

I hated Kratos' character before, so maybe they'll finally change that.

But I'm afraid the combat is going to slow down tremendously with this new camera angle and rely to heavily on setpieces.

As a Nintendo gamer from the early 90's, that new god of war is not a video arcade game like god of war 1-3

WHy is this one look so bad the camera doesn't give you full view of kratos and it looks slow paced.

and there would have been a thread bitching to high hell if they did not make any changes.

The PS4 is chock full of movie/cinematic/emotionally driven games.

God of War- Babysitter Edition

They could have kept everything the same and made another mindless hack n slash rehash and have everyone forgetting it exists like Gears 4. They needed to shake things up to continue the series. The old formula was played out by Ascension.

God of War is soooo boring now. And the gameplay didn't look smooth.

im just sad we still gatta follow kratos a.k.a one of the worse characters in gaming.

I dunno what to think about the gameplay changes - it's the one thing that was consistently praised about GoW. But as long as it's not Kratos (the same Kratos), I can deal. Still not committed to this game, but I'm open to it.

I'm glad they changed the formula. Bring something else to the series. But I will kinda miss the blades.

Also haven't played the game to say what its like. The game looked great and story driven. If they didn't refresh GoW people would also complain so just shut up and enjoy

Absolutely it feels like The Last of Us.

For me, that's not necessarily a bad thing. But Sony sure is working on having all of their games feel similar: cinematic third-person, over the shoulder, wrench control away from you during an intense moment.

It works for Naughty Dog. I see it working for God of War since it has always been cinematic and this just seems like a natural evolution. But any more games than this and it's starting to feel like this is all they have to make a blockbuster game (which is certainly not true. Hyperbole here? Yes, but my point stands.)

it certainly feels like The Last of Us though, down to the art direction too. This is one of my favorite showings of E3 though, so eh.

I dont have any gripes with the trailor, except for the fact they didnt have the flashing "X" button for any of the finishing moves.

Also it looks scripted as hell. This is a problem cinematic games face.

So Ryse was resounding garbage on this forum and now Sony transformed God of War to Ryse like gameplay with strong Last of Us elements with a dash of Gears of War camera and some folks are blown away. This game is going to tank so hard. But then again story games with light gameplay has been dominating the perfect score so the movie watching gamers may be very pleased with this direction.

It's simply not God of War, and that's OK because nobody wanted another God of War game anyway.

So God of War 1-3 were mindless hack n' slash's is what you're saying? Clearly you've never played on God, Titan or Chaos mode.

@sHaDyCuBe321: it still was a tired formula though. I skipped both Ghost of Sparta and Ascension because of that. I still bought them a few months ago though for love of the series.

What's with Sony, and all the babysitter games anyway? TLOU was alright, but why do we need all the God of War, and The Last Guardian babysitter editions?

He didn't call the voice actor a monkey. Try reading the post again. He referenced the peole in charge of hiring said actor... So unless they're black and it's well known...

Its an action series, its one thing to make changes to the formula, that still allows it to stick to what it is. But at first glance, this looks like a total genre change. That's too much. I get it, people liked The Last of Us, but looking at the last few Sony games, Uncharted 4, now God of War and even Day's Gone all look to have a very similar TLoU like tone.

Not a fan of hack and slash, so this actually garners my interest.

That is exactly what I saw. When gamers find themselves play various iterations of Last of Us/Uncharted like games they will wonder how the hell did all of this happen. The sadder thing is that when Last of Us 2 is released, gamers may possibly be burnt out from that style of gameplay.

Considering the last better than mediocre God of War game came out on PSP six years ago, another game in the vein of the old ones would be just grating. Much as I still would rather have a new IP, this is cool too.

I'm up for it, I'm willing to give them a chance to try something new. They've done 3 or 4 games with the same formula. It looks like the story this go around is going to be much better.

I'm going to reserve judgement until I see more of the game, but I am worried about how the game will turn out after seeing that and I was definitely more excited for God of War 4 before E3 than I am now. I hope they don't slow down the game too much and I hope that kid won't be following Kratos around for the entire game.

I don't want the last of us in my god of war. Ugh.

As much as I played the hell out of TLOU, the new God of War game didn't make it like it's based on TLOU to me. To be honest, I would wish Kratos daughter was brought back to life and replace Kratos son for his daughter, she would have made a fair comparison to Joel's step daughter Ellie in that comparison. The game itself look amazing, rather it's based on TLOU or not, it looks good.

I liked GoW 2, it was a very fun game...rest of the games are "okish" with some really fun parts here and there and by god, Kratos was one of the most annoying characters in recent memory so i was eager to see him go.

This new Kratos, i actually like him, i think it was a much needed revamp, i was also intrigued by the gameplay, overall, i think this is the first time ever i'm hyped for a God of War game.
