30 is better than sub-24, but I'm not sure how anyone in their right mind could prefer 30 to 60.

Playing a game, it's pretty objective that 60fps > 30fps. However, I prefer to have video play back at a cinematic 30fps because it adds something for me. It's subjective at that point but for games, if you can go 60, do it.

"Many will choose" is argumentum ad populum. It doesn't make it better or even justified, it just makes it popular. Because selling a game on something shallow like how pretty it looks, how big the world is, how much of a lolvideogamestory it has is easier than selling framerate, because with that they would actually have to sell interesting gameplay.

60 frames is smoother and precise, and all around better looking to boot, it's why the PC snobs actually have objective reasons for why the PC is superior, and when it comes to defending consoles all the console fans can come up with is "preference". As in not facts.

I can agree with that. I had a go at filming myself driving at 60FPS and it looks rather odd yet playing video games at 60FPS or more is just fine.

Yeah, it's more what you're used to than it being superior. We are used to watching 35/70 mil movies at 24fps and it looks more natural to us. Ironically, vastly cheaper TV shows are using 48fps digital cameras and it sure does look smoother, but cheaper at the same time.

There are rare circumstances and I mean RARE where a 30 FPS presentation better suits the environmental, mechanical and style of game over that of 60 FPS. A higher framerate is obviously superior, you are getting twice the amount of frames, however it can detract from certain game experiences. The whole 'cinematic' feel argument is not delusion, the fluidity of motion changes the entire look, feel and nuance of the game, for some games it can appear too fluid and not filmic enough if that is what the developer was going for. The Resident Evil remake is a prime example of this, 30 FPS looks, feels and plays properly for that specific game, 60 FPS looks too fast, it's just too fluid and make everything appear far too real time.

This reminds me of The Hobbit and their decision to film the movie at 48 FPS, it ruined the cinematic value of the film. It was very comparable to the smooth motion capabilities on TV's that exists today, this is called the Soap Opera effect, the same thing exists in games.

TV doesn't use 48fps, that was what the Hobbit used because people were feeling sick watching it in 3d. TV shows normally use with 25/50fps for PAL regions and 30/60fps for NTSC. Not sure what SECAM uses but its French and they wanted to be a unquie snowflake.

60 fps (hell 144fps) any day.. The only games I am indifferent on with those fps are slower paced games like turn based strategy games or games such as Telltale games like The Wolf Among Us.

Definitely not. Although I will sacrifice 60fps for better graphics settings on certain games that I'm playing with a controller if I need to.

I'll have to settle with 30 fps, since all the graphics kings currently use that setting. (The Order)

i don't are as long as it's not below 30fps, Below 30fps and you get input Lag, saying that, anyone who says they prefer a lower framerate over a higher one is a sandwich short of a picnic.

You can't "prefer" 30 fps over 60 fps. It's objectively worse. It's like preferring to have $5 over $10.

However, what you can "prefer" is that system resources are used to improve graphics, physics, scale, etc. with the additional horsepower you save from only targeting 30 fps.

Well, I prefer playing The Last of Us in 60 FPS over 30.

I think a better question would be why the film industry doesn't go for 60fps.

Serious Ubisoft and any developer who finds the game to be more cinematic running less than 45 FPS ( I can understand 60 FPS with the PS4 and Xbox One running at 1080P is a bit of a stretch) is absolute BULL. Give me a game that runs at a nice 45 FPS and never dips below 30 and I'm good. Next gen I expect all games to run at 1080p at 60 frames or 4K at 45FPS or else. EMPHASIS ON OR ELSE. By the way I know the PC can do 1080p at 60 FPS I just don't feel like spending a decent bit of money to doing it or using the configuring around a computer to do it.

I'm not one to sit around and split hairs over over pixel counting, anti aliasing, poly counts, texture resolution, etc. I mean shit man, I still dip into games as far back as the NES regularly.

However, framerate has a very direct effect on gameplay. It's not just one of those icing on the cake type deals. It's always been an important factor.

Well I prefer 60fps, but honestly I just want stable framerate at 30 or 60. I don't care for when it fluctuates either from 30 to 20 or 60 to 45.
