Poll do you prefer 30 FPS over 60 FPS? (219 votes)

yes 12%
no 88%

Iv'e seen many people talking about the cinematic experience of 30 FPS and that they prefer it. i don't see how 30 FPS makes a game more cinematic. some people even say that they can't see the difference between 30 FPS and 60 FPS (source: youtube comments). so if you prefer 30 over 60 in even one game, then select yes. and also please mention if you can clearly see the diff between them both, because i can. (note: this is not a flame topic, i just wanted to know what y'all think)

30 fps is fine for cutscenes. But gameplay needs to be 60 fps.

60 fps is smoother, but is not as big of a step up as one might think if they do nothing but lurk on SW all day.

Sounds fair enough to me. Consoles can't have it both ways, but it comes down to choosing between 1080p or 60fps, or sometimes sacrificing both for more graphical features and effects. Mid-range PC users might also need to make similar trade-offs if they want to improve the graphics, with shaders/plugins like ReShade or GeDoSaTo, for example.

I've been playing my games on a console for the last two or three years (had a PC, but, well *had* is the keyword), so I was fine with 30 FPS.

I got a PC recently. At first, playing games at 60 FPS made me a little woozy. Now? I can't go back to 30 FPS. 30 FPS feels so last gen to me. So antiquated. So unnecessary. A bit like playing those N64 games that went sub-10 FPS at times.

I will happily take games that look slightly worse in order to achieve 1080p and 60 FPS. There's no reason console games in this day and age should be anything less that 1080p and 60 FPS.

If I can be honest, I'd prefer a return to 480i. On a 27 inch screen. Ohh yeah...the cinematics.

More fidelity? No please!

Overall don't really care, aside from a few, prefer games like Dead or Alive, Bayonetta or anything like those to be 60fps, otherwise 30fps doesn't bother me one bit

Yeah son, I'm not going to read another mountain of your bullshit, but here is a fun fact. I just went through each page with a quick ctrl+F looking for Nintendo and Wii U. Oddly enough (not really) you're the only person that mentioned them.

Get it together. And if Nintendo is on your mind that damn much then just embrace them. You act like you have a childhood crush on a girl at the playground. Can't stop thinking about her, but "ewww she has cooties"..

Pitiful man.

30 fps is something I put up with, not something I want. Sure, it matters more in some genres than in others, but I'd almost always be willing to give up some visual fidelity for a better framerate.

I know consoles don't need to go the route of PC games with tons of settings, but damn. If they would just give the option to swap resolution for frames, that'd be great. I'd gladly take 720p @ 60fps over 1080p @ 30 fps in Bloodborne for example.

i agree on this, i wish i had an option to play FH2 at 60 FPS.

hell no once i see 1080p resolution on a game i can NEVER go back to 900p or god forsake 720p

try to downgrade resolution on a pc game and notice how you will never ever wanna go back either i don't care about frames i literally can't stand blurryness more than anything else period

ps4 1080p msg works for me and thats why i hate blurry shit

Except 900p upscalled to 1080p is extremely tough to differentiate for most games unless you stuff your face very close to the screen.. No where near as noticeable between 30 vs 60 fps.. And if we are going to play it that way, 1080p blows compared to 1440p or 4k.. So there you go.

What kind of question is that? Isn't a single game on my pc that plays better at 30fps then it does at 60fps. So of course I would rather 60fps.

after being used to a steady 60fps for any amount of time a 30fps game feels like slow motion.

You were supposed to do that a long time ago, and yet you keep reading my posts. You even read my first post in this thread, enough to comment on how distasteful it was for you to read.

I read just enough of your first post to see if you had something to say. Turns out it was another crying about Nintendo post. Never said it was distasteful. Just called you out on the funny fact that you can turn everything into a Nintendo bitch fest. In turn you went on another book report rant about Nintendo and their fans.

The fact of the matter is Nintendo defenders have spewed way more bullshit defending everything about the company. You can't even believe some of the shit they type.

Oh trust me, I see it every single day. The shit's hilarious and sad at the same time. Corporate slaves say dumb shit, more at 11.

-

That doesn't have anything to do with what I'm saying man. You have an obsession and I'm laughing at you about it. Pretty simple.

You see, I'm not a big fan of Xbox gaming. At the same time you won't see me going into every other thread having a bitch fit about it. I simply don't care.

You on the other hand, try to find a way to cry about Nintendo in every post you make. There's nothing deep about it, certainly nothing that requires a multi-paragraph response to a joke. It's just funny. I'm simply laughing at your expense bro.

Does that spell it out enough for you? I hope so.

Yeah, it's unreal man.

@speak_low:

Congrats, you win. I'm actually going to read this monster of a post.

@speak_low said:

I just read enough.....I took a peek.....I glanced.........Get real.

Only being honest with you bruh. Nothing against you, I rarely read lengthy posts on this board. Even from the non-shit posters. Shit posters like you? Once in a blue moon. Today is the day, congrats bro.

I also realized you did make a post in here already about frame rates, because it was quoted on page 3 (a few posts above). So turns out you are one of those who wanted 720p/60fps as an option. Maybe I trampled on some Sheep feet with my post, and it got you mad.

Yep, I prefer performance over resolution. Actually I prefer having both which is one of the reasons I game primarily on a PC. But if push comes to shove? Performance gets the win for me.

And yes I am a Wii U owner.... and a PS4 owner... and a PC owner... and I'll probably end up being an Xbone owner. No corporate slave here man, I just like games.

None of your shit-posts involving your Nintendo obsession are going to offend me, please don't flatter yourself.

Once again though, somehow my preference for performance makes me some Nintendo slave. Do you not see how nutty this makes you look? Do you not find it strange that you take these things that have nothing to do with Nintendo and turn them into some conspiracy based crusade?

But you're so obsessed with that one mention of Nintendo/Wii U in this thread. One is too much! You seem to want to put me through some radical molecular restructuring and make all my future criticisms towards Nintendo softer, more pleasant. You also want me to post 80% less about Nintendo and to redistribute my angst towards Sony, MS and PC.

Not at all. Reading comprehension bro.

I criticize Nintendo constantly. They have a mountain of faults worth calling out. Hell, Mirkos shits on Nintendo like it's a full time job. He makes you look an intern by comparison. Yet he's one of the better posters on this board. Champ. I consider him to be one of the more realistic/non-biased posters around here and he shits on Nintendo all the time.

Difference between us and you? Our criticisms are legitimate and within context. You? You try to shoehorn Nintendo into discussions where they don't belong. You go out of your way to bring up Nintendo. Nobody even mentioned Nintendo in this thread. This thread isn't even about platforms. Yet you set up the straw man and went to town with it.

That's why I'm poking fun at you. That's why I'm telling you that you're obsessed. That's why I'm laughing at your expense.

(rinse and repeat this block for most of your post(s) ^)

There's no "childhood trauma" or "inappropriate touching" or wherever you were trying to go with that tired joke.

I said neither of those things, but I'm sure you hear it enough haha. And for good reason. Maybe it's time for you to take a look in the mirror.

Anyways. I'm sure none of this will sink in. It will all fly right over your head as usual. Rather than you realizing that I'm simply pointing out your foolishness, you'll try turning it around like I'm defending Nintendo because you're a robot and that's all you know how to do.

I always go for 60 fps for sure. Though sometimes 30 fps makes the animations seem a bit more cinematic (literally) considering the framerate of films. 30 fps feels slower. In the case of adventure games that don't require a lot of user input, I would rather have better graphics than 60 fps, but in games that do require input (most games) 60 fps for sure.

I've always wondered how much difference there is between 30fps and 60fps. When it at first was at 30fps, I thought it looked okay. Then I switched to 60fps and I was surprised by how much... better it was. Then I switched back to 30fps and saw how choppy it was. I wouldn't have noticed if I hadn't seen the 60fps. 60fps is much much more preferable. But bare in mind that 30fps is okay but you'll can't really denied that 60fps is better, no matter what. In most cases, I prefer better framerates to better graphics myself.

Well like I said, depends if the game is input heavy. 60 fps is literally double the frames of 30 fps so that's a lot of graphical qaulity sacrificed for smoothness, mainly for input. So I'd rather have the graphics in something like Uncharted.

Games like the Arkham series or Hitman or anything like that that's half cinematic and half input heavy and gameplay focused, I would prefer 60 fps for sure.

Obviously, I'd rather not make the sacrifice at all, which is why I game on PC.

High framerate is always better. That is not up for debate. People accept lower framerates because that's what they are given. Nobody would willingly ask for a lower framerate.

have you bothered to read the full article? i never said that i would prefer 30 FPS, i gave a "source: youtube comments". i don't know how it looks to other people's eyes so i asked this question to clear my doubt because:

1. i'm new to forums and i don't know what other people think, or what they prefer.

2. check out any 60 FPS vs 30 FPS youtube article and you'll see that there are many people who say they prefer 30 FPS for some/all games and/or say that they can't see the difference. (not one or two, loads more than that. see it to believe it)

3. developers always go with 1080p 30 FPS rather than 720p 60 fps without even giving the option to switch framerates.

4 people always create gfx threads for an exclusive that runs on 30 FPS, when i would prefer better framerates over "over the top graphics"

Is this thread a joke?

Nope. There are peasants out there who actually believe 30 FPS is better because it's closer to 24 FPS which is the standard for movies.

this is exactly what iv'e been trying to explain to people but they just jump to conclusions.

It's impressive how you can turn any subject into Nintendo salt.

Here we go. World War II. Choose any battle and tell me how it relates to Nintendo sucking. Go!

Every frame rate thread I see is pretty much an attack on Xbox One/PS4 (that they are worthless machines and too weak to game on), and those doing the attacking are almost always Hermits and Sheep.

Hermits seem to not understand that 1080p/30fps is not only a dev-driven decision, but also a gamer one. The PS4/X1 could easily do 1080p/60fps, but mainly for games that came out before 2012-13, before we made the generation shift. However, from this point onward, gamers WANT significantly better graphics every year, every sequel. They want larger open worlds, and they want it to be more beautiful than ever. Devs see these message boards where gamers get angry if a dog's animation looks funny, and some textures seem just as blurry as Xbox 360/PS3. Because of these higher demands, and faced with the hard decision, devs are going for 1080p/30fps and keeping as many graphical bells and whistles as possible.

Sheep, for some reason, choose to enter these frame rate discussions, with a little of their own smug advice. Not only will this generation be shorter than usual due to "garbage" PS4/X1 hardware, but they should've listened to smarter people and lowered the graphics to 720p/60fps and be more like Wii U. Because these Sheep chose to stick their necks into the discussion, I will bring them up here. 720p/60fps would be a horrible choice for the PS4/X1. Do Sheep mean to tell me that gamers are going to buy new $400-$500 console just to jump from 720p/30fps ----> 720p/60fps? haha lmao

If given the choice between frame rate boosts or upgraded visual complexity (not both, because the hardware just won't allow it), then it's clear that gamers and devs are in agreement that 1080p/30fps is a much better compromise than 720p/60fps.

I'm trying to add more to the discussion other than the typical "30fps vs 60fps" thread that becomes nothing but "cinematicks" jokes and PS4/X1 name-calling. And I hardly see them bring up the obvious reason why 30fps is the norm on PS4/X1. Developers could placate the critics and only make 1080p/60fps games on PS4/X1, maintaining the 60fps standard at all costs, but then the games would be far less beautiful. Uncharted 4, Rise of the Tomb Raider and Mass Effect Andromeda would see huge downgrades just to get there.

Do you have anything to add to what I just said in my two posts above, or are you going to bring out the "Where did Nintendo touch you?" joke again and not discuss anything?

exactly my point. i'd much rather take 720p 60 FPS than 1080p 30 FPS.

Dang I accidently voted 30 just because that's what I usually get (dont own a gaming pc). Ideally 60 though. It wish that was the bar for most games. Like others said I would take fps over resolution.
