Poll do you prefer 30 FPS over 60 FPS? (219 votes)

yes 12%
no 88%

Iv'e seen many people talking about the cinematic experience of 30 FPS and that they prefer it. i don't see how 30 FPS makes a game more cinematic. some people even say that they can't see the difference between 30 FPS and 60 FPS (source: youtube comments). so if you prefer 30 over 60 in even one game, then select yes. and also please mention if you can clearly see the diff between them both, because i can. (note: this is not a flame topic, i just wanted to know what y'all think)

60 obviously is better. Personally, while I prefer 60, I mainly just care about a stable frame rate.

60fps all the way. I'm cool with 30fps as long as it's stable for both fps.

Prefer 60 but am fine with 30. Difference is huge though and 60 fps enhances the experience by a lot

You would have to be there sitting right next to me when a game is running at 30 or at 60 because I swear I can´t see the difference.

Only a console exclusive gamer would say they prefer 30fps over 60fps.

I game on consoles and PC and 60 fps is always preferred to 30 fps. Demon's Souls would've been so much better running at 60 fps on PS3.

More frames is always better but I admit that at some point, the difference is not noticeable by the eyes. I never did the complete test to find out what is the real difference between 30 and 60 but I'm sure it's better for now. Maybe someday, I'd be able to really know how much it's different. When I know the difference between 20 and 30, I'm sure 30 and 60 could have a difference too.

Also, better fps can mean that you system will last longer. So more fps is always better for this reason too.

When I know the popularity of motion blur, the popularity I estimate from the games that own the option and me that have use it and like it in the past, I wonder if your cinematic thing could not be real.

What a stupid question.

High framerate is always better. That is not up for debate. People accept lower framerates because that's what they are given. Nobody would willingly ask for a lower framerate.

Of course not

But at the same time, I'm not aligned with the group of PC gamers who pretend as if 30 fps is unplayable.

If you can't tell the difference between 30, 60, and 144 FPS you need to get your vision checked

A higher framerate is always, always better and a game's experience is negatively affected by lower framerates. 30 FPS isn't unplayable but it isn't enjoyable

Its really easy to tell if you're playing in 30fps or 60fps. I never played a game above 60fps before.

Provided you have a monitor with a high enough refresh rate it's just stunning. Once you get used to 144 FPS, 60 FPS feels so slow and stuttery in comparison. FPS games in particular benefit immensely from higher framerates (144hz monitors are pretty much mandatory if you want to get really good at CS:GO)

Same here. I'm having a blast with TW3 and my framerates average 35-45 fps.

Todays releases don't have gameplay so I tend to run the hdmi through a converter to the tv so I can get true 24hz just like bluray.

30fps isn't even cinematic though. It still looks different compared to 23.97/24.

Also, stable frame > volatile, so while I generally prefer more frames than less, I would prefer a consistent 30fps over a wildly fluctuating average of 60fps.

Sometimes slow moving games like a silent hill works great at 30 fps. Feels like a movie.

No but I'm willing to sacrifice 60fps for a game that strives for a high graphical fidelity or huge scale.

There are also many games which are rock solid at 60 fps. I rather have a solid 60 fps than a solid 30 fps.

30 fps is my threshold where I wouldn't have too many complaints. But, more is always welcome.

Elitist!

120 fps is where it is at anyway because it's a nicer number in my opinion (60x2, or 30x4)

Anyway...most console games aren't 30 fps, they just have an average around that.

Prefer? No.

But it's fine with me if it's stable. Destiny is fun at 30fps.

Batman AK is fun at 30fps.

I don't NEED 60fps....but I like to have it.

Nope. There are peasants out there who actually believe 30 FPS is better because it's closer to 24 FPS which is the standard for movies.

It's extremely noticeable when you are experiencing it for real, playing the game.

And 155hz vs 60 fps is even more noticeable. Once you've tried that it's a big deal.

Not just because it looks prettier. But you can read things that fly by faster and easier, you can respond faster.

Apparently not everybody sees it... I kinda don't believe that. And holding on to 30fps is like holding on to 8 bit colors over 16 bit colors.

how much do you need to get that much? just a thought :P

In 3 years time an affordable PC can do 2k at 144fps I hope.
My current PC can't. But all I'd need is a GPU so I might go for one next year to have a really cool VR experience. Maybe VR Star Citizen :D
Also what's with GS adding linebreaks to my posts whenever I edit/quote :(

I'm happy with 30fps and better graphics. 60fps means sacrifices have to be made somewhere. But if I had the choice top graphics and 60fps would obviously be best.
