Poll do you prefer 30 FPS over 60 FPS? (219 votes)

yes 12%
no 88%

Iv'e seen many people talking about the cinematic experience of 30 FPS and that they prefer it. i don't see how 30 FPS makes a game more cinematic. some people even say that they can't see the difference between 30 FPS and 60 FPS (source: youtube comments). so if you prefer 30 over 60 in even one game, then select yes. and also please mention if you can clearly see the diff between them both, because i can. (note: this is not a flame topic, i just wanted to know what y'all think)

To a casual watcher/gamer that doesn't game much, the difference may not be inherently noticeable and certainly isn't as flashy as shiny new graphics. In defense of Youtubers, it was somewhat recently that Youtube finally added the ability to post videos in 60fps, so the confusion can stem from there.

That being stated, and I doubt anyone will disagree, while 30fps is playable and not inherently bad 60fps (or even higher) will always be prefered it looks and plays better; and I for one would rather have a higher frame rate than shiny new graphics.

Why would you prefer something inferior? Only developers who suck at optimizing their games say they prefer it.

Lol, why would anyone prefer 30 fps in videogames.
60 fps should be (or should become) the standard.

It's extremely noticeable when you are experiencing it for real, playing the game.
And 155hz vs 60 fps is even more noticeable. Once you've tried that it's a big deal.
Not just because it looks prettier. But you can read things that fly by faster and easier, you can respond faster.

Apparently not everybody sees it... I kinda don't believe that. I don't see why anyone would want to stay stuck with 30 fps unless for nostalgic reasons...

how much do you need to get that much? just a thought :P

**** no lol.

30 fps is something I put up with, not something I want. Sure, it matters more in some genres than in others, but I'd almost always be willing to give up some visual fidelity for a better framerate.

I know consoles don't need to go the route of PC games with tons of settings, but damn. If they would just give the option to swap resolution for frames, that'd be great. I'd gladly take 720p @ 60fps over 1080p @ 30 fps in Bloodborne for example.

Right on man. Best of both worlds is the way to go, but if push comes to shove, I'll take the frames.

Lower resolution is just a lower image quality, but lower frames has a very direct effect on gameplay.

I could be okay with 30FPS on a slow paced game (like an RTS game). But for anything fast-paced like racing or shooter... platformer, 60+FPS is a must. Hence on why I don't really like playing most console games that are locked at 30FPS (Something like Uncharted). The ugliest result for staying 30FPS (Or even reaching it) is when developers add that nasty motion blur effect. Just don't do it! 30FPS is too damn choppy for that. Ugh.

60fps>30fps although I would say solid frame rate is more important, 60 that keeps dropping could lead to screen tearing and other rubbish.

I prefer 30 FPS just because 60 gives me really bad headaches and sometimes vertigo. I will still play the game that is at 60 FPS if it is good enough but I care a lot more about stable frame rates. If it is stable I am good.

60 fps makes the gameplay much smoother and more responsive. Once you start gaming on a decent pc and experience the pros of higher frame rates (there are more pros about pc gaming but this thread is about frame rate) it's hard to go back console games. Even the exclusives (the main reason to game on a console) more often than not it seems, can't even maintain stable 30 fps.

I'll much rather have a game that fluctuates between 50-60 fps than 24-30 fps, since the latter is almost unplayable.

There isn't any room for discussion here.

60 fps > 30 fps. Period. It's objectively better.

Now, what IS up for discussion is whether people prefer playing games at 30 fps AND the higher level of graphical fidelity this allows instead of at 60 fps with lower quality assets.

It depends on the game.
