It's a good holiday season for X1, no one in their right mind denies that, but to close that kind of gap is in the realm of impossible.

Only if Xbox sells 10+ million units while PS4 sells absolutely nothing for 2-3 months. I mean this is simple math. 20+ million vs ~11 million is supposed to be a small enough gap that a holiday sale can cure?

If things went great for SOny at E3, I rarely doubt the XBONE can even kepp up with the PS4.

Best Buy also has a $50 gift card with the purchase of an Xbone on top of the $175 credit towards one with the trade in of PS3 or 360.

Don't get me wrong, I love my Xbox One, really enjoying it so far, I hope it does well, hell might even rely on it as my multiplatform system of choice down the road even after getting a PS4... that being said, I doubt the Xbox One will catch up to the PS4 anytime soon (if ever). I do think MS has the potential to turn things around for themselves. We can reconsider Xbox One catching up to PS4 once they turn their fortunes around.

What xbox fanboys forget is, Halo has always been a USA phenomenon. Problem is Halo isn't a thing world wide anymore if it ever was. No one outside of murica gives a damn.

So, even if x1 stomps PS4 in NDP, World wide it's going to be a wash. That's the flaw with this Halo argument, it's not going to push more sales than PS4 outside of the US to make up any significant lead.

I am completely, utterly and absolutely certain that the Xbox One won't have caught up to the PS4 by 2016.

If you pulled all the PS4s off the shelves, today, the Xbox One probably still wouldn't be able to sell 10M more units between now and January.

It's remotely possible to close the gap in NA, but world wide it doesn't look likely. I think someone pointed this out upthread, but the logistics of getting the amount of units out to stores to cover the WW gap isn't practical. For NA, this is considering that the PS4's sale remain flat until the holidays. Xbox will definitely push units for Halo 5 but if PS4 widens the lead in NA before then, it can only hope to tie. Either way, placing first shouldn't be a concern for the company or the owners of the console. I know that's taboo to say in SW, but it bears repeating. Microsoft just needs to focus on making quality games and not putting any buggy thing out for "strategic holiday sales positioning". I would take a hypothetical third place Xbox One delaying games to make sure they are quality over the second place console that sacrifices quality for sales.

If the PS4 is already beating it with NO GEAMS then there's essentially zero chance of the xbone catching up.

The PS4 is about 10 million ahead, unless they sell record numbers for any console ever, they won't come close. They may close the gap a bit, maybe make up 2-3 million, but only if the PS4 momentum slows, which is doubtful.

OT: Unlikely, lems fail to mention that the PS4 still sold extremely well during the holiday period where MS won those two npds. It's not like there was that much of a significant gap. Especially when all the hard work MS did on dropping the price and packing in content only for their head way dissolve month after month through the next year.

MS need to drop it down to to $199 and pack in $100 worth of content during black friday and the holiday season to make the needle even think about moving towards 'likely'.

In the U.S.? Eventually. Everywhere else? No. The PS4 isn't that far ahead of the XB1 in the U.S. Worldwide it's unlikely they will catch them.

Maybe in North America. No chance in hell in total worldwide sales. People seem to forget how popular the PlayStation brand is worldwide and it has nothing to do with Xbox not being in as many markets. The reason Microsoft doesn't enter those markets is because it's a waste of time and money when nobody buys your system. This generation sales war was over the moment M$ waived the white flag with Kinect.

If you're asking if they'll catch up to the total amount of PS4 sold by this holiday: No. The lead is likely too large to surmount by this year.

You have to look at the numbers, The PS4 is currently on 10.000.000+ lead, that numbers continues to grow at a rapid pace as shown by the NPD.for every 5-10-20 Xbox purchases, it seems the PS4 has 10, 20, 30 to 40 more. Though, Considering the line up for the holidays, it will definitely obliterate PS4 duing that time and through out the first two months of 2016(i'm sure MS will use aggressive sales tactics along with great bundles) this could all change if Sony announces some megatons at E3, like simply a price drop for the PS4, but i doubt this will happen.

Fun Fact, Despite 360 being the Sales leader in NA, the PS3 outsould xbox360 in World Wide sales during the Halo 3 days even when PS3 still cost $600

Hopefully not, Sony had to try harder last gen to play catchup, and I truly believe PS3 owners had a better gen for that than they would have if Sony was in 1st the whole time.

If Microsoft wants to be in 1st place, they're going to have to fight for it, and I want that to be the case all gen so I as an Xbone owner get more games.

To be honest though, I don't think Xbox One is ever going to catch up.
