Probably wrong thread but it is comparing PS4 and PC.

Can you really buy a PC that is less than £800 that can

Beat the PS4 in terms of graphical, run 1080P and higher games at faster resolution with ultra high on. I need it to really be better to justify the outlay.

Be as small as a PS4 or similar

Be as quiet as a PS4

I know its been discussed before but if you can what should I get?

..... £350 for the console.

£700 ... nowhere near 3x.

your criteria is stupid anyway, small as a PS4? why is that relevant? or quiet? or wattage? a more powerful device that can do alot more than game is never going to be as small or power effecient.....

what is this nonsense.

My 3 year old 6950 i5 rig runs Battlefield 4 better tahn the PS4 does.... if I built a new one now for £800 It would CRUSH the ps4. hell, if I just changed my GPU it would slam it.

..lets not venture down this road. You'll get 1000+ responses from Herms who will show you rig you can build $15 and four bottle caps, and it can tap into NASA. Except most have paid north of $1000 (I'm being overly generous) for their own rigs.

Consoles: cheaper hardware, more expensive games

PC: Expensive hardware, cheaper games

So no, you can't build a PC for the price of a PS4 that is as small and as quiet. But if you take into account all the games you buy in a generation, PC gaming is actually not that expensive.

With that budget yes pretty easily. Anyone who says otherwise has no idea what they are talking about.

You can easily build a technically much more powerful PC for that price but don't think it'll be as small as PS4.

stupidty attacks again, i paid actually 2000 for mine, that doesn't mean you can't build one for cheaper than that, i actually made a really decent one for a friend with around 1000 that blows ps4 out of the water.

To TC if i have some free time and you still need it i will send you a pm with some options.

Partially, but remember that the UK price includes sales tax (at a very high rate :P ) whilst the US one does not.

Are you even serious? The PS4 is equivalent to a mere HD 7850 which costs about $150.

There's no point in those crappy budget PC builds hermits talk about. They won't be running AAA games in 5 or 6 years like a console will. Plus it's not fun in tweaking every setting down to Low/Very Low so demanding games will actually run. That shit is depressing.

If you want a cheap system, get a console.

If you want the best graphics and performance, spend a lot on a beast of a PC. That's what I did for this gen, the new wave of consoles are underwhelming so PC it is. But a 1200 euro+ PC, not a hunk of junk for a couple hundred that will barely run COD on it's lowest settings.....

For under 800 pounds sure. For 799 pounds you can build yourself a pretty decent rig that can play games at high settings without a problem. 800 pounds is $1,300 US dollars. You can build a very powerful PC for that.

I'm not sure what PC parts go for in the UK, but I highly doubt there is some 100% markup which would make that 800 pounds go nowhere.

My PC is at least eqaul to a Ps4 and it cost me a total of £616.

AMD FX 8350

AMD HD 7850 Factory Overclocked to 1000ghz, so comparable to 7870 at stock

8 Gb DDR3 Ram

500GB Sata Hard Drive

750 W PSU

Phanteks PH-TC14PE CPU cooler.

So games like Thief, Tomb Raider and Battlefield 4 all look and play better on my PC than consoles.

I have saved money in the long run with games, as most PC owners do especially around Christmas when Steam were doing daily sales.

nope. let me know how those x1850s and 7800 gts are playing bf3, crysis 3, cod black ops 2, bf4, and other late gen multi platform games. then let me know how anything you can push out of one of those cards compares to a game like god of war 3, uncharted 2/3, killzone 3 etc. an 8800 gtx, which was in roughly the same position relative to the consoles as a 780 is today barely gives a better experience in said titles than the ps360.

Lemmings' butthurt is staggering. The PS4 already won this gen wether you like it or not lems.

Hard to win with 2 AAE and 1AE

Considering PC had like 6 AAE and 3AE during February and March only

then clearly it doesnt outperform it "period" now does it? it outperforms it in rush job launch frame shitty pc ports which themselves are already shitty ports of ps360 games. once all games are coded around the ps4s specific hardware everything will change and sub 780/290 level gpus will be eating dirt. i look forward to see how bf5, call of duty 2016 etc run on those sub 780/290 gpus compared to ps4.

The question should be. "can you play PC's massive library of games on the PS4".. no.. no you can not. I built a mid sized tower rig last year for 576 dollars (I had a version of windows already) .. took 2 months waiting for things to go on sale but it was well worth the wait. It destroys the PS4 and X1 currently. I often have it hooked up to my TV and I can lay back and play marathon games of Civ 5 in comfort.

I always have and always will buy consoles. I have an X1 and PS4 but nothing beats the selection of games on the PC, or the freedom to upgrade whenver.

Easily.

For £600 you can build a PC with the following:

  • FX 6300
  • 8GB RAM
  • 1TB HDD
  • R9 270X

PS4: 1600x900 BF4

PC above : 1920x1080 BF4

Done.

..lets not venture down this road. You'll get 1000+ responses from Herms who will show you rig you can build $15 and four bottle caps, and it can tap into NASA. Except most have paid north of $1000 (I'm being overly generous) for their own rigs.

The worst part of hermits is when they talk back 7-8 years ago when the PS3/360 were new.

"Yeah I totally built this PC in 2006 with dual 8800 GTs, 4gb ram, a mobo, blu-ray drive, quad core-CPU rig for like $600!"

when in fact the graphics cards alone cost more than that.

Not to mention how ridiculously expensive a quad core CPU was back in '06. or BD-drive for that matter.
