I have yet to watch it but I think I will see how OoT is going for them. Maybe I can learn how to beat the Water Temple without throwing my controller in anger...

They have been going for fifteen hours and have beaten Zelda 1, Zelda 2, ALTTP and Links Awakening. They just beat OOTs water temple.

[QUOTE="Head_of_games"] They seem to be doing good so far. Check out the vid.VGobbsesser

I'm talking more about pure speed.Their route optimization and planning is sub-par,there are too many time-wasting mistakes, and I have seen a number of potential sequence breaks and exploits that they have missed. No disrespect to the Speed Gamers; I understand they are doing this for a good cause, but analyzing this from a speed runner's point of view,I'm not impressed.

They are not using sequence breaks.

Really? That seems a bit...silly.It would help them reach their goals much faster and much more efficiently. And it's a lot more fun to watch.

Why is it silly? The real point of the marathon is to raise money for charity and entertain the viewers, not to get the marathon over as soon as possible. Also, if they used sequence breaks, everyone would accuse them of cheating. They didn't use sequence breaks when they did Mario or Metroid either.

Their goal is to finish these games within a designated amount of time; time and speed are both of the essence here.Sequence breaking isn't cheating, either; it's merely one of the ways to push a game's route to its absolute limit.Speed runs such as ones at SDA are verified to see any traces of cheating (actual cheating, such as use of cheating devices or hardware tampering),and it wouldn't be difficult to get some verifiers into the mix with this type of marathon, considering the popularity of the franchise inside and outside the speed running community.

And the main goal is to raise funds for charity and to entertain the viewer, correct? Then why not lower the time limit? Why not beat every Zelda game within 48 hours?I'm sure even more people would like to see that, and I'm sure they'd recieve even more donations. And why not sequence break? It would certainly add a layer of excitement to the viewers, seeing things done in the games they didn't know were possible that they could replicate themselves.

I know their cause is good, but they could do much more to make it interesting and benefit their cause more at the end.

And a Metroid speed run without sequence breaks?Blasphemy.:P

No. Anyone who would've been interested in that is also interested in 13 games in 72 hours. Nobody is saying "72 hours? Well maybe if it was 48 hours, THEN I'd help those kids with cancer" Making it long and drawn out is what allows them to gather more viewers, more advertising, and more donations. Considering these guys have done several marathons, I'm almost positive they aren't clueless as to what they're doing.

Then they need to raise the stakes or create a new challenge.Either that,or get rid of the title "Speed Gamers," because they certainly aren't living up to their name.

Yeah, they are so slow. Everyone can beat Master Quest in 7 hours without sequence breaks. Why do they even bother?

I watched some of that. Majora's Mask is the one Zelda game I really want to play, it needs to come to the VC! I had never seen a lot of gameplay until then and it looks really fun.

There's a possibility it may never come to the VC because it used the N64 expansion, therefore it's difficult to emulate it correctly. You could probably get it and an N64 for fairly cheap. Majora's Mask seems to be a "love it or hate it" type game. It's very different from the other Zelda games and more difficult.

Yeah there's no way they'll make this happen. When they finish Wind Waker, they'll have about 29 hours left. Minish Cap takes 7-10. Phantom Hourglass takes 10-12. Four Swords takes 10 hours. They won't have ANY time to finish Twilight Princess. And that's the longest game!

They've said that they can beat Twilight Princess in under 10 hours, and the others can be beaten much quicker than that. They'll finish, but they may not have much time to play the CDi games.

No they won't. Any wager on this?

Edit: Looking at their previous marathons, they did less games in the same amount of time.

So these games would have to be significantly faster than the ones they did before.

I don't see it happening.

They have 28 hours left. If they beat Twilight Princess in 9 hours, that leaves 19 hours for most of Minish Cap, Four Sword Adventures, and Phantom Hourglass. Those games can easily be beaten in that amount of time, if they are as familiar with them as they have been with the ones they played so far. Their past Zelda marathons were 7 games in 72 hours and they didn't finish either time. They weren't nearly as good then.

Oracle of Seasons was completed in 3 hours and 37 minutes.

Wow! I rememberSeasonswas apainto play. Those side (not top-down) bosses frustrated me to no end.

Ocarina of Time was completed in 7 and a half hours. Tyler completed The Wind Waker in 8 hours and 36 minutes.

7.5 hours for Ocarina of Time Master Quest is crazy!! Funny...I've always thought OoT is so much longer than Wind Waker. I guess I'm wrong.

Now they'll finish because they had some guy play that game flawlessly.

Heck, it took them longer to finish Wind Waker!

Haha, I cant believe they actually did it. Man, they destroyed those games. They only did bad with Oracle of Ages, which took them aorund 5 hours, when Oracle of Seasons about 3 hours. But still, looks great. BTW, you guys should try and donate a dollar or something, these guys did a great job and they are actually doing it to raise some money.

Check It Out now if you can. I think it ends around 7:00 so if you want to make a ending donation or just watch were at the last hour or so. I have to say, surprisingly I enjoyed it. I had never saw any of their other marathons but its cool that their raising money. Plus I saw some good Zelda footage the whole time.

No, they won't make it. They'll do it in 72 hrs if you just count game time though. What they did is still an amazing accomplishment, and they've raised over $5000 for charity in the process.

Darn it, they went over! However, there was a lot of time where they weren't playing so if you don't count that then maybe they can beat it.
