Like all good video games, the waterfalls in Dark Souls II have something behind them. If you follow the path of where Merciless Roenna came from, you’ll come up close to a waterfall and behind it, the portal to the next boss fight.

Like the Belfry Gargoyles, these lords have a shared life bar and they even share it with their helpful minions. Where are the minions? You have kill each of the lords to find out. The key is to not get overzealous with killing the lords or else you’re going to be overwhelmed by their minions. Even more important is that you save the Staff Lord for last, since his death spawns some notably annoying Wheel Skeletons, who’ll charge with quick and lethal attacks. Beyond that, expect familiar Dark Souls boss attacks like multi-directional melee swings and flame assaults.

Taking on this boss means a return to Undead Purgatory and passing through the portal previously blocked by the Greatsword Phantom. Whatever you do, DO NOT WALK TO THE RIGHT after you enter the mist, unless you want to fall to certain death.

The first half of this fight involves avoiding the chariot as it goes around and around the area. This is accomplished by using the tiny nooks along this circular hallway. If the enemies are giving you so much trouble that you can’t reach a nook in time, you can attempt to roll dodge under the spikes sticking out from the sides of the chariot.

Your first goal is to kill two Necromancers so you can get a reprieve from the Armored Skeletons. The first Necromancer will be in a nook in the outer wall while the other will be in the inner wall. You can actually make it to the first Necromancer before the chariot’s first pass; you just need to sprint down the hallway right when the battle begins. Be sure you’re armed with your best melee attack to take out the Necromancer and to defend yourself against all incoming Armored Skeletons. Achieving victory depends on patience with troublesome camera angles in tight spaces and knowing how the lock-on affects your view. If you’re really good at toggling the lock-on, you should turn it off once the Necromancer is dead so you can make a break for the next Necromancer. That way, you can ignore the Armored Skeletons and let the passing chariot take them out.

After you take out the second Necromancer, stay in the nook and let the chariot pass one more time so it could run over all the leftover Armored Skeletons. Since their means of revival are gone, they shouldn’t bother you anymore. Look for a lever near your current nook and pull it. As the gate descends in the hallway, prepare to watch a dramatic crash.

This final phase of the battle is against the two horses. Given the narrow design of the area, we found that ranged attacks were especially useful. We just had to be mindful of the horses’ charge and its far-reaching Dark Breath. If you do find yourself up close, the horses are especially vulnerable on the side and the one attack you should be mindful of is the Turning Bite. If avoiding the bite leads you to roll to the horses’ rear, be ready for the Rear Kick. The Executioner Chariot is more menacing than it looks and you might find yourself taking off good sized chunks off its lifebar, which should hopefully lead to an efficient kill.

This clip takes you from the second bonfire of Harvest Valley and to the first boss fight of Earthen Peak, which is against the Covetous Demon. The direct route’s biggest obstacles are the Undead Steelworkers and their giant hammers. Note that they’re especially susceptible to fire attacks.

The Covetous Demon practically feels like a gift after the tribulations of the Executioner Chariot. This boss tries to make up for its slowness with its size and array of blunt force attacks. Ranged attackers will have an easy time, provided you know how much room you have to backpedal before reaching the wall. Attacking from a distance is especially advantageous at the start of the battle since it will take several secord for the Covetous Demon to notice you. For melee attacks, you’re best bet is to attack it its sides. You definitely don’t want to be in front for him as it can both body slam and eat you. Expect an easy fight if you’re at least at Level 70.
