In Super Mario Advance you play through very challenging levels and annoying enemies. You can play as four characters, Mario who is has all round stats, Luigi who can jump very high, Princess Peach who can hover for a short time, and Toad who can`t do anything. There are all new enemies to like shy guys and faces that chase you and no sign of goobas and turtles. There are also collectible coins to be found in each level which can be spent at a slot machine at the end of each level to obtain more lives. There also other ways to earn lives like if you find a potion and throw it somewhere on the ground it will break and a door will appear and inside a very confusing game can played that involves a big mushroom and the plants there can be pulled up for coins. There are no power ups anymore, now there is the ability to pick up onions and other enemies to throw at a enemy and if there you get combo a star will appear, but it is super slow. And instead of getting bigger and smaller to represent health now you have hearts which can obtained from giant shy guys, you start out with only two hearts but further in the game you get more.
