Not as large as that of a new GPU would give you, but you should notice a nice difference if you clock the 5000+ to around 3.0 GHz.

Also, your video card is PCI-e, correct?

yes, its a geforce 7950GT KO PCI-express

You will get beter performance from good video card than the other stuff.McJugga

well my options right now are the cpu/mobo/ram OR v-card and i think ill benefit more from the cpu and stuff.

anyhow, does xp utilize dual core cpus or do i need to upgrade to vista?

Thats a good upgrade, but I wouldn't get that Rosewill CPU cooler. If you are not overclocking you can use the stock HS/F that comes with the CPU. If you are though, look for something better.JSDempsey

that cpu doens't come with a stock fan, so they have some deal with that one as a combo order, its $30 off the origin $44 fan price.

the set up i have right now, ive beat crysis w/ shaders, shadows, and objects on low-med and everything else on high @20-30fps (drops below 20 with lots of explosions and such going on).

the set up is

AMD 64bit 3.5+ @2.21

2gigs DDR400 ram

7950GT KO 512mb v-card

I'm thinking of getting this (my budget MAX is 300 dollars)

MSI K9N Neo-F V.3 AM2 NVIDIA nForce 560 MCP ATX AMD Motherboard - Retail

AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000+ Brisbane 2.6GHz Socket AM2 65W Dual-Core Black Edition Processor Model ADO5000DSWOF - Retail

Rosewill RCX-Z2-EX 92mm 2 Ball PWM CPU Cooler - Retail

G.SKILL 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model F2-6400CL5D-2GBNQ - Retail

it'll be about $275 for that.

I'm stuck between either a $300v-card or a new cpu/mobo/ram setup...

with the setup i have now and games coming out lately, i turn the graphics settings up and down and theres really no change in fps, just changes the way the game looks, so im thinking my cpu is bottlenecking my graphics card down, i know the 7950 aint no 8xxx or 9xxx series but seems to doing the job.

am i going the right way with this?

dunno whats the dealio here but according to the makers of crysis they say in the read me file crysis runs better on 64bit OS.

heres a comparison in average fps's on 32bit and 64bit

average 32 bit 22.35 25.12 25.11 25.12
average 64 bit 22.37 25.24 25.22 25.27

the greatness of 64bit.... we get ALMOST whole half of a frame.

yeah, my standard for most fps games are at least 30-35. hopefully I can get 25-30 out of crysis on med settings. I'm installing the game now.

what's a good playable fps to have to fully enjoy crysis? would 30fps be a good standard to shoot for while adjusting settings with this game?
