As long as they don't do a Bioware and kill the main single player series for an MMO (KotOR killed for The Old Republic), then I don't mind this. If the combat is good and there's no sub, I might have a look, but I'd much rather an Elder Scrolls 6 or Fallout 4 (especially FO4).
Wow, I had no idea there was a Battlefront 3 in the works. I'm quite embarrassed considering how freaking awesome Battlefront 1 & 2 were. This is devastating. Why would Lucasarts dish out the turds that they have in the last few years when they had a tried, tested and very popular series to continue with?
I see used games as a way to get people interested in a series before burning a large amount of money on something they might not want. I got my favourite game of all time, Final Fantasy X, used a while after release. I'd had a N64 previously, so I knew nothing of the series. Because of that game, I've bought almost all the Final Fantasys since. Same goes for the NHL series. I bought NHL 02 used, absolutely loved it and have bought half a dozen NHL's since. That small original hit from the used game can earn a company heaps in the future.
I don't really understand the hatred for Origin and the complete love for Steam. Steam has constantly screwed me around through the whole time I've had it. The latest is the not being able to play Skyrim for about a month after a Steam update (and still can't) and the complete lack of support to get it back up and running. On the ME3 topic, I'm still waiting for my imported copy, so I maybe joining the legions of hate after I finally get to experience it. Only time will tell.
I personally see a 6 (and perhaps a 5) as games with noticable flaws, but are worth it to a fan of the licence or genre. As a fan of RPG's and strategy games, I might think about buying a RPG or strategy game rated as a 6, but I'd be very unlikely to buy a shooter or platformer rated at the same level.
I can't see how video game companies would want this. Gameplay footage on Youtube or any other site is brilliant and FREE advertising for their games. I know its been footage from the web that has got me to buy a number of games that I was on the fence about or didn't know about. To destroy that is to destroy large numbers of sales.
Would we have got games like Demon's/Dark Souls, Portal and Valkyria Chronicles is devs put all their eggs in one basket? Of course not. Yearly CoD, Guitar Hero and others are taking resources away from developing newer and possibly better IPs (which in-turn, will get flogged to death if they are successful). Even AAA titles can turn out terrible (FFXIV for example), so why don't they start trying something new.
