Ok you dont believe huh?
The Athlon X4 620 got 73 fps in farcry 2 while the phenom 2 965 got 90 all at 1280x800, then with L4D Athlon got 104 fps when the phenom got 150 fps at 1280x800 with a GTX 260. No difference?04dcarraher
is 1280x800 now over 1280x1024? don't even care about the source, tbh.
Then you have to take in account the 5850 and GTX 460 arent all that much faster then each other only averaging 12 fps difference. So take the average you would see the Phenom 2 and GTX 460 performing as well or even better then the Athlon 5850 combo just because the Athlon is holding the 5850 back.04dcarraher
yeah, when overclocked the 460 is pretty much equal; the power consumption is higher, though, and it would be more costly. most of it is that I don't think the cpu upgrade would matter more to me than the gpu difference being big.

So even with Athlon II X4 and a 5850 , A Phenom 2 with a GTX 460 would match or outperform , just because the cpu. 04dcarraher
I don't believe that. I don't think cpus matter as much at resolution above 1280x1024.
You have to look ahead too, The psu requirements for the 5850 is 500w, the 5850 needs two 6pin pci-e power which means that the 5850 can draw as much as 225w just from the 12v rail when at 100% use and then you have cpu etc drawing power too, With a 430w you would be drawing at full load over 80% of the 12v rail. The longer and harder the psu has to supply power the shorter the life.04dcarraher
I have a friend that runs a gts 250 on a psu with 30A on the 12V rail. has been for a while.(and many people online do it too) I'm not worried.

I wouldnt even bother with that, crappy case, not big enough psu, and slower cpu.04dcarraher
the psu ran a 4870 for someone that made a review; how many amps do you think a 5850 needs? an athlon ii x4 is good enough for me. I'm never gonna spend as much as I did on a case again; not worth it to me.

$1K is too much to be spending on a 5850, anyway imo. I'd spend ~$700 for it.
