His understanding of the "core" FF qualities doesn't give me much hope. Never particularly associated FF with technical splendour or with innovation, and "exceptional out of the ordinary experience" is pretty vague.

I want to hear about characters, story, world design and combat. Many think the series peaked with 7 but it didn't noticeably decline until 12 and especially 13 - 8, 9 and 10 were still awesome and delivered on what FF should be, in my opinion.

Prioritising innovation and technical aspects is what gave us the awfulness of the 13 saga. I love the classic FFs and will give 15 a chance pending reviews but I'm more doubtful than ever that Squeenix has learned the lessons it needs to.

Valve/HTC have moved ahead of Oculus in my opinion thanks to better specs, comfort and the ability to track movement. Think they could take the PC market.

Morpheus won't be competing with any of the others, so as long as it's cheap enough and enough good games are made for it, it could be a real boost for PS4 and Sony. MS need to hurry up with HoloLens or else everyone who hasn't bought a new-gen console yet will go PS4.

The fact that so many hardware makers are getting into VR suggests that it won't die off this time and VR gaming will finally be a long-term thing, whoever provides the headset. I'm hugely freaking excited.

I once got accused of using an aimbot in a game of CS:GO, when I headshotted all five members of the enemy team in about 30 seconds. Since I'm actually a profoundly mediocre player, I was very proud.

I play almost equally on PS4 and PC, which I've just upgraded. I'm loving that it can handle Skyrim with an ENB and texture packs, but then I'm also loving Dragon Age and a few recent Steam sale acquisitions including the new Wolfenstein. Has been some gooood gaming recently.

Happy holidays to the Gamespot staff and community!

Inb4 anyone who says this game is overrated. I could make a case for Dragon Age: Inquisition or Dark Souls 2 but Shadow of Mordor is a solid choice, and the Nemesis system is probably the best innovation this year. Ken Levine is right to identify it as an exciting step toward player-responsive storytelling. Good interview too - very interesting to hear a little of the discussion behind the design, which makes clear how thoughtful the development of this game really was.

So much about Destiny doesn't make sense to me. Before the expansion my leveling stopped when I got to 25 or so, not because I wasn't willing to grind, but because there was no match-making for the nightfalls and weeklies.

Speaking as someone whose friends aren't into Destiny or are on other systems, I appreciated the chance to get to 31 through vendor gear, which is what I'm working on now. Since this opens vault of glass to me for the first time, I'm tempted to go through the community to find people to do it with, but now that there's no point unless I'm desperate for a mythoclast, it seems like more trouble than it's worth. Hardcore raiders have had their gear devalued and now that the rest of us are able to attain the necessary level we have no incentive.

Bungie should never have put obstacles like this in the way of players who don't have a ready-made community to go raiding with, it just seems so dumb. I guess they think they're forcing people to build relationships through their game - it's the only explanation I can think of - but I dunno if I can be arsed. I haven't bought the expansion and I'm probably going to pack it in for good now since I'm getting Dragon Age for Christmas. Too many other good games are around to excuse this kind of sloppiness.

@rogue81 Hm, your point about publishers casting a wide net is a strong one and I guess I'll concede that, but if a game I want comes out on a console I don't own, that console having "a stronger identity" won't console me (wahey).

It's still possible to make a cross-platform game without it sucking, you just have to take your time and do it right, which is why Arkham Knight and the Witcher III have been delayed. AC: Unity was full of bugs because Ubisoft rushed it into the pre-Christmas window. The fact that its story is apparently mediocre is nothing to do with it being cross-platform.

I say "apparently" because I didn't buy it; your point about gamers starving for anything new was valid for the first year of new-gen but as of about now, I'm finding there are enough awesome cross-platform games to vote with my wallet against the ones that should've been better. Ubisoft screwed up on Unity, so I'm playing the new Dragon Age instead: a great cross-platform game with no serious bugs that should keep me going for a while. Competition should be between game devs, not platform holders, and exclusivity actually hurts that.

Think MS will be disappointed if they're counting on Tomb Raider to be a system seller. PS4 will get Uncharted so it won't persuade many Sony users. Maybe a few undecideds. Speaking for myself I have no interest in the franchise.

And Phil: I hate the idea of franchise bartering. Gamers want fewer exclusives, not more, but I guess this is where our interests conflict since you've got to make your console as tempting as possible. Sigh.

@bigruss730 Not even in a feature about the influence movies have had on games? I'm as much a fan of CoD-snobbery as the next guy, but each instalment is basically an interactive Michael Bay film. Given the context of this video, they're definitely worth a mention.
