Unfortunately for us Europeans we have to wait until the Americans wake up to hear the news...

and there's me thinking that Morrowind was overrated when compared to daggerfall.. what does that make Oblivion? lol, I still enjoyed all of them, yet to play Fallout 3.

my faded memory of what i read on the first page told me that, what you actually said was that you thought it would of sold just as well .. the same amount .. suggesting the brand name didn't help it sell more than it could of sold without the Halo tag. Which i guess is quite similiar to what I claimed you said, that's the implication that I gathered anyway.

If i'm wrong then tell me what you really meant, then i'll stand corrected. If this is just more semantics then I'll conclude that this is just yet another frivolous SW disscussion.

I've been consistently referring to the title of the game itself -- not the brand within the game. Meaning, I've been only referring to the NAME of the title itself. If the TITLE of the game was merely Spirit of Fire INSTEAD of Halo Wars, it would sell around the same amount.

I stand by this because of the advertising, the boxart, everything would be the same except the title of the game itself.

Edit: Afterall, I was only answering the TCs question -- since he offers no ellaboration on what he means, for I know, he could be referring to the title of the game itself only.

Ok. I've seen that post now.

That's curious, maybe you're deliberately being obscure just to wrong foot people and score cheap points, I think the general message of the thread is quite obvious, although it's vague, it's likely that he means the brand, and you probably knew that, or maybe i'm just being unfair, but this is system wars, how could it not be a question about the Halo brand? But fair enough, with a unecessary clinical and semantical approach, i can see your point.

Nope not really. What I say is perfectly understandable. HALO started out on the XBOX therefore thats where the HALO fanbase is. Further more PC gamers are alot smarter than to buy a game off brand name alone.

Ok, this is where things begin to get fanboyish.

Not at all. Theres alot of casual gamers on the consoles and where theres easy to please casual gamers, theres money to be laundered. Face it when when all those HALO fanbois saw HALO Wars sitting on the shelves they didn't even give it a second thought. Insta sale right there and they probably don't even like the RTS genre.

The hardcore PC gamers don't represent the whole PC community, games like the Sims, Peggle, Dinner Dash and others still prove to be popular, there are undoubetly 'casual' gamers that game primarily on PC, after all, the PC is the biggest gaming platform for a reason, they surely must have some 'less smart' 'casual' gamers, right. Generalisations wont get you anywhere in an argument, especially when they smell of elitism.

You're splitting hairs, yes his semantics were flawed, but generally the message is that the Halo brand helps games sell.. i'm pretty sure Halo 2 vista would of sold pretty worse without the halo name, but ofc that's aside from the point.

You said originally in this thread that the Halo brand didn't help, with the gravitas the Halo brand holds in the Xbox community, i find that hard to beleive.

Stevo_the_gamer

Where did I say that?

I thought it sold because it had Halo in the name: meaning, anything with Halo in the name sells big? Having second thoughts?

A 3 year old game, competeting with the likes of Stalker, Crisis, Bioshock, Call of Duty 4 and The Orange Box, with a gold membership required to access many features and a vista exclusive title?

Obviously not very well .. but of course, for proof that a brand helps sell a game it must overcome all those shortcomings right? lol, branding in the games industry is a tried and true method, brand recognition and harnessing a brands fanbase are two benefits of this strategy, and it worked for Halo Wars.
