ok... so according Jason Schreier, current console deals (like timed exclusivity w/PS5) will be honored, and future games will come to other platforms on a "case-by-case" basis. That makes sense... keep a few heavy hitters on Xbox/PC only, but allow a few others to go everywhere if the sales opportunity is so big you can't really say no to it. Very interesting... this industry is always fascinating.
@ks253: Hmmm... that would be interesting! They would probably have to compensate Sony in that case, as they obviously forked over some cash to get those deals. But it's not entirely out of the realm of possibility...
@saint311: I'm not sure what PC narrative action adventure games are as good as Sony's... but to be honest, I'm not that familiar with the PC world. I'm pretty much a console gamer... I understand the allure of PC but the simplicity of a console still resonates with me.
@xnshd: Based on MS moves over the last few years, I almost wonder if Xbox ends up becoming more of a platform like Steam... you could still have the XB ecosystem of sorts, but playable anywhere. But that's probably a long ways off.
@j3diknightdave: You could argue they'll recoup that 7 billion a lot faster if they put games out on everything... of course, if they keep exclusive they drive more console sales, which may turn out better in the long run for them. But it's not an open and shut case to keep everything exclusive when it's from such a world-renowned publisher with the history of someone like Bethesda. We'll see... I'm guessing there will be some out-and-out console exclusives, some timed exclusives, some titles published everywhere. It'll be interesting either way.
@Archaicc: How is it inaccurate? What was Polyphony or Guerilla doing before they put out Gran Turismo and Killzone? Hell, Sony San Diego was basically built from the ground up internally. Your example is perfect: Bungie wasn't really a big player before Halo. They had some quality Mac titles, but they were far from a household name they way they became while at Microsoft. MS saw something in that title and wisely jumped on it.
@fragnem: What would this deal be for if not locking up console exclusivity? Money baby, what all deals are ultimately for. MS would stand to make a LOT of money on these games staying multi-plat. They may want to roll the dice on keeping them XSX console exclusive, but that's far from the only potential reason for this deal.
@ks253: Usually if you buy a company, you buy their contractual obligations, so I'm assuming the exclusivity will stick, but unless I'm mistaken, both of those games were supposed to only be timed exclusives.
