@crxuchilbara: How so, from the top of my head I can recall a chain of sidequests leading to potentially nuking a town out of existence from the entire world state in Fallout, a mysterious magical tower that changed an entire islands weather to extreme lightning/rain/wind and had a cool story in Witcher, becoming the head of the mages/thieves/companions/dark brotherhood in Skyrim with multiple game changing outcomes and story, etc.

Even in PS2 or earlier FFs which were similar to open world with their world maps you had the entire optional Yuffie questline, learning about Vincent's past by finding the secret waterfall, etc.

FFXV doesn't have a single side quest that isn't gimmicky and purely fetch quest. Every dungeon is just a hallway. Even the mountain/volcano is just a linear hallway with a sky.

Though I will say it is a step up from FF13 series for which they bated people with a colliseum but a ghost essentially tells you it's not yet time and to pull out your VISA at a later date because there isn't a single fight in the colliseum until you purchase them later down the line. None of them are unlocked through cool endgame sidequests are anything...

East Asia revolves around gacha and microtransactions now. Their games suck.

As long as the side quests feel meaningful with more variety than collecting frogs, taking photos for a fat guy, etc. In addition to a complete cohesive story with ample character development rather than the excuse of perspective as a reason for a lack of story. After that, do away with AI based battle arena (the boring one in Altissia...), no stupid invisible walls, less empty map with more areas of interest and more variety than gas stations, more characters acquired over time, more effort to make NPCs/towns feel alive without static animatronic style movements that don't acknowledge character proximity (check out Novigrad in The Witcher 3 and how alive it feels with npcs appearing to have daily lives, populated, interact with player, etc), dungeons that are less linear/repetitive, and finally... optional abilities/magic/summons that are usually present in all FFs with more than a half dozen options (for which 2 you couldn't even use beyond the damn final part of the story...).

Polish those aspects before you consider open world ever again because you don't stand a chance against modern open world heavy hitters in your current state. I will say that the cooking and fishing were top notch along with the cool take on camping to replace the world map/save point tent item in other FFs. The hunts definitely had their moments, but it would have been cool to have more secret ones that were not spoon fed through time gates or quest notification on the map that required exploration and talking to people in the world.

Finally, more crafting. Open world games just don't feel right without extensive crafting systems because it helps you populate the world with collectables.

As long as the console version comes to the west, I don't care for handheld shit.

"15 million unit freighter", try 100+ million for the good ones buddy... Plus they completely removed the fun of finding lottery planets covered in a particular rare resource such as sac venom...

I had a nearly max slot ship plus max inventory, max weapon, and top upgrades on my tool and ship. I logged back in and I can't even mine over half of the resources...

Some of the game is new content, but most of it is just unlocking things you could already do before the update... Why repackage the same crap? Add new stuff.

@Verenti:

It depends who the controversy targets. Let's say 80% of a viewing audience of some particular television series, game series, etc, is male and it emphasizes traditionally masculine themes like the God of War games which also has nudity and then they tried to add feminist extremism to it in addition to reducing the portrayal of violence (that would be non profitable controversy) or The Witcher games where you basically have active sex quests on the side, parallels to Abrahamic religions that demonize it, etc. These are all controversy that adds to the intensity of the product.

Meanwhile, examine something like Marvel's new comics like Jane Foster as female Thor, trying to push body positivity/diversity by making Spiderman date an average body + average faced Hispanic girl, Iron Heart the under 18 black afro Iron Man gimmick who is supposed to be smarter than him, Blonde Haired blue eyed Valkyrie being replaced by a black women in Thor 3 that has tribal like markings on her face..., etc. These are controversies that alienate a large portion of the fan base, they aren't controversies that sell.

Even the new comics only sell decent when they constantly do 1-2 issue 1s every month or 2 and they barely hold a tune to series that had 100s of issues. They can't even write 1-2 dozen issues before having to do another war, alternate universe, etc in order to try to sale more and create new issue 1s... It is pretty pathetic.

Idris Elba is flat out a great actor. I personally would prefer a white Heimdall but at least he is top notch. Tessa Thompson, however, is not.

Why are people so obsessed with integrating non-white actors into mythos based on white areas? You don't see white people clamoring to play fictional characters based of the Dogon, Dinka, Fang, and other African tribes or to be a part of the Ottoman Empire in film, etc. Everyone seems want to be portrayed in Saxon, Scandinavian, French, English (British in general), etc, armor with broadswords, Polish warhammers, etc.

Middle Easterner's are brown/olive for the most part. I am guessing you are one of those people that think white identifying Hispanics are white or even that Hispanic in general is considered white? Simply not the case. Even an individual with a white and black parent that ends up visually being a lighter black is still not white.

Don't get me wrong, I am fine with it in MODERN settings where people have migrated to said places. It is period pieces, regardless if fantasy, that are based on locations around specific periods where I hate seeing diversity being pushed. I wouldn't even touch shows like Vikings if there was all of a sudden a Black jarl with an army of Black Vikings or something. It would instantly turn me off from the show.

Here's how you make shows that don't get cancelled:
- Don't be afraid of controversy/violence, the majority of viewers don't like dumbed down content (as things like Deadpool and Wolverine showed when rated R)

- Make sure character personalities are seemlessly integrated. Aka, if you want a "strong female protagonist", make sure she is just integrated naturally like Ripley, Leeloo, Alice, etc. If she constantly has to say she is a women, constantly quote tumblr feminists, etc, then the majority won't like it. You will just get the small extremist SJW viewers and SJWs KILL profit. They belong nowhere near entertainment.

- SJW politics prioritized over story is never good... This includes things not related to gender like the previous point. The only way it works is when it is satire/dark comedy like how the GTA games like GTAV make fun of modern politics like exaggerating marijuana legalization into legalized cocaine, etc.

- Sex sells, but not more so than characters fitting the roles... Aka, flyweight/bantamweight commando underwear models beating up 220+lb of muscle bearded lumbersexual man beasts is just retarded.

- Make sure the ethnicities fit the period. Aka don't make Egyptians, Africans, Middle Easterners, etc white, nor their deities/mythos... The same goes for places like Northern Europe, a group of Black/Asian/Hispanic Vikings would lose all immersion and be stupid. Immersion is important, PERIOD.

- If you make the headlines of left/right/independent/foreign/religious news in a controversial way paired with high views/sells, that is a GOOD thing. Censoring it will ruin it. Just look at what happened to Kickass when they went from utter R-rated humor/shock value in part 1, to dumbing it down to slap happy humor, monologues about non-violence, etc in Kickass 2... People didn't like it. CONTROVERSY IS GOOD.

I am the one that created 2 of the viral threads regarding this on Reddit and Gamefaqs including the Imgur image showing the credits ---> purchase credits ---> and statement on their creation club page. So people know I am extremely against paid mods.

The only way I would potentially use it is if 2 criteria were satisfied:
1. Credit prices are along the lines of 1000+ per dollar with special periodic deals for even more
2. I can install CC mo...official content to the vanilla game + expansions/dlc and then stack mods from Nexus on top of it. If it is only compatible with the bethesda.net in game modding, then it is a 100% no go for me.

@doctor_mg: Exactly, so put it on the damn 3DS, Vita, or something. I expect to push my hardware a bit more with anything I buy for consoles or PC. If not with the base game, then at least with mods.
