@chasedurer: Really... ?"no variety in gameplay or style"... ironic. We're talking about Nintendo. You know, the company who's releasing Mario Cart 8 and Legend of Zelda 9(?).

Lets not act like Nintendo doesn't churn out the same games year after year. "Ohhh... Mario Maker! Now I can make the levels so the devs don't have to." Give me a break.

At least be honest on the topic. Only reason I haven't had a Nintendo console since the GameCube is the lack of flexibility and option. As a consumer who can't buy every console and play on PC there's not enough value in the Switch for most people, much like the WiiU, which is represented in their sub-par sales.

I mean... it doesn't even have a Netflix app right now. Let's stop calling a console with substandard features, at this point, the one meant for "authentic gamers".

@shokkerz1976: GameCube was the end for me. I actually enjoyed that console greatly but remember feeling "left out" and that I had made a mistake in buying one more times than not. Even then they didn't always have the same third-party support.

RE4 eventually made up for it but that was definitely the end.

@gargungulunk: Pretty sure the Nvidia Shield was used as a point of reference in the article above. Hopefully they continue to do the same in the articles to come.

Overall, it doesn't really matter to me. I may not get one at launch but maybe down the road since I don't have a handheld gaming console at the moment. The third party titles I can pick up on PC.

Bummed that the Nintendo has given up competing with Sony and MS. Would be cool to have a Nintendo console that can play Nintendo first party titles and the great third party franchises Wii and Wii U missed out on. Even if it's for nostalgia's sake.

I guess at this point I'd ideally like to see Nintendo games on Steam. Unfortunately, Nintendo exclusives haven't been enough of a draw to get me to buy a Nintendo console since the GameCube.

The idea is a great one. NCAA Basketball 10 was the last game I can remember doing this. The switch between ESPN commentary and CBS commentary was also a cool way to keep it fresh and add an element of realism.

Can I play Battlefield, CoD, Cyberpunk, FarCry, GTA, Red Dead Redemption, Madden, Overwatch, Dark Souls, Fallout, Elder Scrolls on the new Nintendo?

Can a system with the power of something somewhere in between a PS3 and PS4 run the titles above or their future iterations?

If the answers are no, then why TF would I buy the new Nintendo console? Mario and Zelda? I've lived without either since the Gamecube... somehow I'll survive. Wish I could just have the best of both.

What are the launch titles, Nintendo?

That's all that matters. I don't buy consoles to sit in the entertainment center and wait 6 months to play my 2nd or 3rd first party, major title. This is if LoZ is an actual launch title.

@brandonmacleodE: I'm sure there are haters commenting but my feel as an unbiased observer (I don't have any current gen consoles, I've owned a console from every manufacturer through the years and never more than one within the same console cycle. I.E. PS1--> GC --> XB360) is that most people in the gaming community have watched a systematic decline in the terms of Nintendo CONSOLE sales ever since the SNES.

To argue otherwise is complete ignorance. The outlier for Nintendo was the Wii. They struck oil and it paid off for them in a huge way. However, striking gold isn't something you can base your business plan off of. If you look at the trends, excluding the sales of the Wii, there is a very clear downward trajectory in sales of Nintendo home consoles which continued during the release of the WiiU. That's fact and it's based off consumer demand.

Nintendo can prop their numbers up with mobile sales but I don't think anyone is arguing that the Nintendo DS is not one of the best selling mobile devices in the market. That said, mobile sales are irrelevant. If Nintendo was simply making mobile gaming systems then it would obviously be important information but they're not just a mobile hardware manufacturer, they're home console manufacturers and that's what people are having a problem with.

I've never understood why Nintendo can't have it's cake and eat it to. Why can't they offer a technically advanced piece of hardware as well as a strong lineup of first party games filled with the creativity and uniqueness Nintendo is known for? The added benefit is greater third party support and modern gaming capabilities. What's wrong with that?

Here's hoping the NX is a step in the right direction... I really want to see Nintendo succeed but won't line up to buy a Nintendo system for the sake of supporting them.
