No game can make me purchase a PS4, X1 or a Wiiu.

Really? I could have sworn that was already out for the PS4. Vita too apparently.

Cherry-picking shouldn't really be allowed either

there seem to be some discrepancies in that article

Agreed. For example:

@thegreatgeneral said:

"The study then notes that there are 270 million "core gamers" at the heart of the market (those who dedicate a good deal of money to gaming each year). Unsurprisingly, the count of total gamers swings toward PC when including the casual market, but swings back rather pendulously toward console gamers when only counting "core gamers" (or traditional gamers - those who actually identify as a 'gamer' and contribute monetarily to the industry)."

http://www.gamersnexus.net/news/1318-games-industry-revenue-and-genre-popularity

That "rather pendulous" swing, if the report is to be trusted, still leaves 47% of core gamers as PC gamers in NA and 43% in Europe. So that's some crazy momentum defying pendulum, which swings all the way to the left when we include casuals and stops pretty much in the centre when we exclude them.

Furthermore, when we consider that PC games revenue has surpassed console games revenue, the figures actually suggest that in spite of the lower prices of PC games and all the F2P options, PC gamers are still willing to spend way more per head on gaming than console gamers.

It's also worth noting that despite having a far lower GDP per capita than NA, Europe has a higher ratio of core (high spending) console gamers to core PC gamers than North America (again, that's all according to your report). If PC gaming is for poor people, should we conclude that NA is poorer than Europe?

Honestly, the whole PC/console gamer = peasant argument is really dumb.

Gamers should shut the **** up, it's there product they could make cost $1000 if they wanted to. Don't like it? Don't buy it simple as that. The game doesn't interest me, but lets say it did, I simply wouldn't buy it.

Exactly. Look at other industries. Restaurant A sells a Burger meal for $8 that include fries. Restaurant B sells $8 burger, but charges $1 extra for fries added. Restaurant B isn't wrong for doing this or trying to "rip off their customers" it is their choice to charge more for fries. At the end of the day Restaurant B will probably still have very satisfied customers because their customers will feel the value of the product of Restaurant B is better despite the higher cost for the product.

Meanwhile, over at Restaurant B:

And this is why crowd funded projects need absolute transparency. Everything, from detailed development schedules, through to proofs of progress, right down to detailed breakdowns of expenditures (including wages), should continually be accounted for and that information presented to investors. As Kickstarter/Valve, etc. seem to be imposing no legal liability on these schemes, then developers should prove their faith in their projects by giving pledgers extensive voting rights.

The interview is rough, but totally warranted. I mean, it's really sad that Peter's home building repairs went over budget by 50% and all, but how many times can he use being creative, or having his mind on higher things, as an excuse? if he can't ground his ideas in solid management practices, then that's not a role he should be taking on projects.

@R10nu:

Ah... I nostalgia'd so bad over that clip. :'D

Now, if only they'd release some actual gameplay footage to all us plebs who weren't at QuakeCon.

Unreal Tournament by a country mile. It's nice to see Epic listening so closely to the community. Hopefully they can avoid the pay-model pitfalls and development laziness that held Quake Live back from realising its full potential. Until then, Quake Live is still my go-to competitive shooter. Arena FPSes are the best.

Unreal Tournament between these two. When it comes to shooters:

  1. Doom 4
  2. Overwatch
  3. Unreal Tournament

Is Doom definitely coming out? I thought there was a mass exodus from id over to Oculus, following Carmack's departure.

An OS based around a single company DRM, which won't run most of my existing software? I don't see how that's attractive or useful.

If MS releases a free gaming version of Windows, this is going to be dead in the water.

Rainbow Curse? There's no one right way to go?

I'm getting mixed messages here; is this a pro- or anti-gay thing?
