@ZIMdoom: And I can provide you with a thorough and detailed essay that explains just how and why Episode 8 is bad on every level, but I'm sure we both have better things to do with our time, especially since these are just opinions that would essentially amount to mental masturbation, just done to satisfy ourselves and for the benefit of no one else.

@Hagan: I think Episode 7 expanded the universe some, or at least maintained the one established. The problem with Episode 8 is that it contracted the universe severely. Not only did it destroy all the story and character threads from Episode 7 and earlier, it failed to introduce any new ones. The movie just ends with no payoff, and no reason to watch the next one.

@BruceWayneJr: Not a surface-skimmer here. The prequels were terrible. The writing, acting, direction, and story development were all trash. Lucas's smartest move was to hire someone else to write and direct Episodes 5 and 6. He should have done the same with the prequels.

@esqueejy: It's hardly a minority that doesn't like Last Jedi. The negativity surrounding it impacted the box office of the Solo movie; that is decidedly not a minority reaction. All of the criticism I've read on Episode 8 is legitimate. It's tonally inconsistent, its characters are inconsistent, and its story is severely lacking. It's basically a really bad cover of Empire Strikes Back.

@ZIMdoom: The obvious switch of Rey's parentage between Episode 7 and Episode 8 was just a blip when it comes to the problems with Last Jedi. It's a terrible movie for so many other reasons that I almost forget about this bit of stupidity, too.

@vfighter: Solo was the definition of mediocrity; it didn't need to exist, but even so, it could have been done much better. Episode 7 was entertaining but derivative, and made retroactively worse thanks to Episode 8. I will give you no quarrel with Rogue One, though; that movie is excellent.

As for retconning some of the stuff from Episode 8: Given that Ep 8 decided to pretty much shut down every character and story thread from Ep 7 without providing any new ones, the "surprise" death of Snoke, that lacked any dramatic underpinnings or context, and the obvious change in Rey's parentage, are just a couple of the problems with Episode 8. Episode 8 finally broke Star Wars. Frankly, I really don't care about Episode 9 in the slightest.

Disney needs to abandon all the old characters and just start over in another corner of the galaxy and start telling original stories, because it's obvious when they mess with the old stories they just mess them up. Even Lucas suffered from this, too.

@crognalsen: Other games have enabled players to switch shoulders for shooting. Using cover has been an ME staple for a while now. Uncharted doesn't have a monopoly on either of these ideas.

@Shadowscreem: Pretty much this. Not necessarily related to ME:A, but I get tired of people who say "who cares about graphics, it's the gameplay that counts" as if these are mutually exclusive ideas. AAA games have massive budgets, they should have great graphics AND great gameplay/story.
