@Hydra270 I think the initial online requierment is to allow it to connect to get the updated firmware so that it doesn't need to check again.. I think....!
@Vidpci Big difference is that this uses the power of the current 3d graphics technology (rather than a few blocky lines and planes), light-weight low latency hi-resolution displays, high speed 3d motion sensors and our increased understanding of 3d technology implementation. Coupled with an open API and integration into some of the major game graphics engines (an amazing achievement for both of these - probably more so than getting all that hardware together) means that this has all the makings of being able to actually successfully come to market.
@warhawk-geeby It's not just about 3D.. it about the VR world appearing static as you move your head to look around. 2D, or 3D, the main effect is the same.
Not really true. I'm sure the controllers are considered peripherals.
Similarly, a mouse and keyboard on a PC. (ok bad comparison as I do actually run some PC's without mouse/keyboard!).. but you get the drift.
Kinect is another input device. They have just decided to include one in the box (I can only guess for the skype/tv services). I can't imagine when I'd want to use it for gaming.. or even skype / tv for that matter. But I don't mind it being in the package.. I guess, in time, we'll see what super uses devs come up with to use it (or not).
It would be a really good move for a large corporation, who's in the business of selling products (including games) to people to mock some of those gamers for a laugh.
You should work for Microsoft's PR team. Even you would probably do a better job.
Funny thing is that I live in the UK, so are probably more at risk of being spied on by the NSA than those in the US. But I'm sure they could use my iPhone for that task if they were really bothered.
