[QUOTE="gailp333"]

Is Wii Ski worth getting if I also get Wii Ski & Snowboard? How similar are they? Thanks!

teknic1200

I can only speak on wii ski, but I don't think you'll need it with the other game. wii ski is ok, but kind of bland and boring.

Thank you, teknic1200!!

Is Wii Fit the only game with a jogging portion in it?

(It does have jogging, doesn't it?)

chasingmaynard

Gold's Gym Cardio has at least one running/jogging game - it has to be unlocked but unlocking things in this does not take much. I am not a jogging fan so don't do this section much (I use a rebounder, actually). Anyway, Gold's Gym is my favorite Wii activity. It is incredibly fun and mostly boxing and a great workout. I cannot recommend this highly enough! Not too expensiveon Amazon, usually, too.

Thanks, intro94 & BizarreAssaassin! I will update my list. I like more "kiddish" games than violent ones. I will have to check my de Blob when I have time. I started playing it & thought the story was single-player only & only some activities multiplayer. Hopefully, I can check it out tomorrow as I have the day off work :).

Well, I got a Wii so I could play video games with my family. I bought games which I thought were multiplayer but now find are really only partly multiplayer and/or, annoyingly, someone has to play through a bunch of games/levels to get to the multiplayer parts. My DS & I sat down the other night to try Raving Rayman Rabids & we couldn't play the game together until one of us played through a series of levels. Not what we were expecting so we pulled out Mario Kart instead (great game but we wanted to try a new one together and were disappointed - it seemed like too much work in order to get to the MP at that point in the evening). I have found the Wii to be mostly a single player experience. Fun for that, however, I have misunderstood the "multiplayer" aspect in the description of many games.

Anyway, I would appreciate any clarifications,corrections,and/or additions to the following list for a local multiplayer Wii experience ("TRUE MP" means you can play multiplayer games right away and "LOCKED MP" means that a bunch of games/levels have to be played through and unlocked in single player mode before the multiplayer games can beused) (updated to reflect responses below :)):

  1. Boom Blox: TRUE MP (take turns, each player using their own controller, however, very little multiplayer stuff)
  2. Boom Blox Bash Party: TRUE MP (take turns, each player using their own controller)?
  3. Call of Duty World at War: Cooperative MP but a second player can just help out a bit & does not play fully
  4. DDR Hottest Party 2: TRUE MP (players play against each other at the same time; need two dance pad controllers)
  5. de Blob: Some activities are MP, however, you cannot play the actual game story MP?? I thought this was a TRUE MP.
  6. Lego Star Wars The Complete Saga: TRUE MP? or LOCKED MP? Is MP cooperative or against each other?
  7. Link's Crossbow Training: TRUE MP (take turns, each player using their own controller)
  8. Marble Saga Kororinpa: I don't understand what the MP aspect is - ??
  9. MLB Power Pros 2008: TRUE MP (players are teams playing against each other at the same time in a baseball game, each using own controller)
  10. Mario Kart Wii: TRUE MP (players play against each other at the same time, each using their own controller)
  11. Raving Rayman Rabids: LOCKED MP (once unlocked, each player uses own controller? take turns? play at same time?)
  12. Super Mario Galaxy: Cooperative MP but a second playercanjust help out a bit & does not play fully
  13. Super Smash Brothers Brawl: TRUE MP (players play against each other at the same time, each using own controller)
  14. Tetris Party: TRUE MP? each player uses own controller?
  15. Wario Ware Smooth Moves: LOCKED MP (once unlocked, which takes a while, players take turns, sharing a controller)
  16. We Ski and We Skii & Snowboard: TRUE MP? or LOCKED MP? each player uses own controller?
  17. Wii Sports: TRUE MP (players play against each other at the same time or taking turns depending on the sport, each using their own controller)
  18. Mario Party 8: TRUE MP (up to 4 or more players taking turns but each event is a game where everyone plays at the same time)
  19. Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles: TRUE MP (2 players coop, play at the same time)
  20. The House of the Dead:Overkill: TRUE MP
  21. Mario Strikers Charged: TRUE MP (players play against each other at the same time, each using own controller)
  22. Pro Evolution Soccer 2009: TRUE MP (competitive?)
  23. FIFA 09 Soccer All-Play: TRUE MP (competitive?)
  24. BombermanBlast Wiiware: TRUE MP (competitive?)
  25. Fish'em All! WiiWare: TRUE MP ? (each player uses own remote? coop or competitive?)
  26. New Super Mario Brothers Wii: TRUE MP (competitive, each player using own remote ?) (not published yet)
  27. Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Echoes of Time: LOCKED MP? TRUE MP? (coop or competitive ? ...multi-platform... a player can use a DS and the other can use the Wii... so no worries for lack of controllers....)
  28. MadWorld: LOCKED MP (competitive; but very very MP sections)
  29. Excitebots: TRUE MP (?) (competitive for 2 players w/each using own remote)
  30. Wii Play: LOCKED MP (comptetitive, each player using own remote; unlocking only takes 10 minutes)
  31. Swords & Soldiers: TRUE MP (2-player competitive)

I would love to see this kind of info more clearly stated in the games reviews.

Any input will be appreciated - and thanks for all previous help on this forum!

I think to myself if you want to be active, go outside or go to a gym.

This sounds logical and I think a lot of people think this way, however, there are many reasons (some of which have been touched on above) why someone can't or won't feel comfortable going to the gym (too public, expensive, etc) or exercising outdoors (weather, too public, runnning is hard on the knees, etc). I personally hate going to the gym and dislike outdoor exercise options except biking and skiing for which you need the proper conditions (and lots of money for skiing!).

I have read the testimonials on Amazon, etc. from people who say the Wii Fit got them started in exercising and I also know some "advanced" exercisers who enjoy Wii Fit (exercise does not have to "killer" to be beneficial and/or enjoyable - this is a fact). So, my thought is that it is not for lazy people. Getting started with any exercise program is hard! And if you have never faced that particular challenge, it may be hard to understand that it is indeed a challenge. Kudos to eveileb-ekam, for attaining your goal of getting to the gym! If Wii Fit can get people moving, it is a good thing - then they may get interested in exercise & maybe take it further and improve their well-being.

There is a thriving market for in-home exercise programs. Wii Fit could be the tip of the iceberg for many people! There are many websites frequented by in-home exercisers such asCollage Video or Video Fitness. And there are indeed some very demanding home exercise programs: Cathe Friedrich programs and Beach Body programs such as P90X to name just two out of many. These will challenge even the most hard-core gym rat. I am very active but am a dedicated in-home exerciser and do many programs such as these (as well as easier ones!). There are also a lot of beginner exercise programs, as well (I am mostly talking of fitness DVDs where you can use as much or as little equipment as you want).

I am looking forward to getting the balance board myself and at least trying the Wii Fit games; I really want the board for trying skiing & snowboarding games, too :).

As an aside: It is not WiiFit but Gold's Gym Cardio Wii is an excellent workout - can be any level you choose. I have been adding it to my workouts every other day for the last two weeks & it is a blast! I am 49 but my fitness age according to Gold's Gym is 22 - thanks to in-home workouts, for sure!

If there is anyone here who has gotten a start on fitness using WiiFit, I applaud you and encourage you to explore even more options for home exercise (maybe starting with Gold's Gym Cardio ? ;)). It is a world full of variety & a lot of fun.

Thanks so much, Smokescreened84! I went & checked Wikipedia as you suggested :).

So, I think they might be worth a try; I am wondering about the differences between theHarvest Moons (plus Rune Factory)...I will have to do more research!

I just tried Endless Ocean for an hour...it is a bit corny but the diving is kind of nice.Odd kind of game but it was nice change of pace for relaxation instead of reading or watching tv.

I have never played any Harvest Moon games and would like to know about this series - what do I need to know before I buy?

I have read the individual reviews for the games and am a little confused. Are the games one story that you play in a certain order? The reviews say the games in the series are similar to each other...are they so much alike that a new gamer would just get the most recent version? Or are they all very different games?

The ones I can find in the Wii series are: Harvest Moon, Harvest MoonTree of Tranquility, Harvest Moon Magical Melody, Harvest Moon Animal Parade (not out yet), and Rune Factory Frontier. Did I miss any? Which one would be best to start with? Which one would be best if only getting one?

I am also wondering about Animal Crossing in comparison to a Harvest Moon title. How similar are they? Is getting a Harvest Moon and Animal Crossing redundant?

Also. it sounds like there is an "endless" nature to these...is playing them on a DS better? I ask because it sounds like you can spend as much or as little time as you like in a gaming session and a portable player would be good for short sessions. Or am I way off on that idea?

I am looking for some lighter, mellow games (I have Mario Kart, Super M. Galaxy, MLB Power Pros 2008, and others that are hard or that can get a bit crazy - I just got Endless Ocean but haven't had a chance to try it yet). TIA for any information!! :)
