Well, I got a Wii so I could play video games with my family. I bought games which I thought were multiplayer but now find are really only partly multiplayer and/or, annoyingly, someone has to play through a bunch of games/levels to get to the multiplayer parts. My DS & I sat down the other night to try Raving Rayman Rabids & we couldn't play the game together until one of us played through a series of levels. Not what we were expecting so we pulled out Mario Kart instead (great game but we wanted to try a new one together and were disappointed - it seemed like too much work in order to get to the MP at that point in the evening). I have found the Wii to be mostly a single player experience. Fun for that, however, I have misunderstood the "multiplayer" aspect in the description of many games.

Anyway, I would appreciate any clarifications,corrections,and/or additions to the following list for a local multiplayer Wii experience ("TRUE MP" means you can play multiplayer games right away and "LOCKED MP" means that a bunch of games/levels have to be played through and unlocked in single player mode before the multiplayer games can beused) (updated to reflect responses below :)):

  1. Boom Blox: TRUE MP (take turns, each player using their own controller, however, very little multiplayer stuff)
  2. Boom Blox Bash Party: TRUE MP (take turns, each player using their own controller)?
  3. Call of Duty World at War: Cooperative MP but a second player can just help out a bit & does not play fully
  4. DDR Hottest Party 2: TRUE MP (players play against each other at the same time; need two dance pad controllers)
  5. de Blob: Some activities are MP, however, you cannot play the actual game story MP?? I thought this was a TRUE MP.
  6. Lego Star Wars The Complete Saga: TRUE MP? or LOCKED MP? Is MP cooperative or against each other?
  7. Link's Crossbow Training: TRUE MP (take turns, each player using their own controller)
  8. Marble Saga Kororinpa: I don't understand what the MP aspect is - ??
  9. MLB Power Pros 2008: TRUE MP (players are teams playing against each other at the same time in a baseball game, each using own controller)
  10. Mario Kart Wii: TRUE MP (players play against each other at the same time, each using their own controller)
  11. Raving Rayman Rabids: LOCKED MP (once unlocked, each player uses own controller? take turns? play at same time?)
  12. Super Mario Galaxy: Cooperative MP but a second playercanjust help out a bit & does not play fully
  13. Super Smash Brothers Brawl: TRUE MP (players play against each other at the same time, each using own controller)
  14. Tetris Party: TRUE MP? each player uses own controller?
  15. Wario Ware Smooth Moves: LOCKED MP (once unlocked, which takes a while, players take turns, sharing a controller)
  16. We Ski and We Skii & Snowboard: TRUE MP? or LOCKED MP? each player uses own controller?
  17. Wii Sports: TRUE MP (players play against each other at the same time or taking turns depending on the sport, each using their own controller)
  18. Mario Party 8: TRUE MP (up to 4 or more players taking turns but each event is a game where everyone plays at the same time)
  19. Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles: TRUE MP (2 players coop, play at the same time)
  20. The House of the Dead:Overkill: TRUE MP
  21. Mario Strikers Charged: TRUE MP (players play against each other at the same time, each using own controller)
  22. Pro Evolution Soccer 2009: TRUE MP (competitive?)
  23. FIFA 09 Soccer All-Play: TRUE MP (competitive?)
  24. BombermanBlast Wiiware: TRUE MP (competitive?)
  25. Fish'em All! WiiWare: TRUE MP ? (each player uses own remote? coop or competitive?)
  26. New Super Mario Brothers Wii: TRUE MP (competitive, each player using own remote ?) (not published yet)
  27. Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Echoes of Time: LOCKED MP? TRUE MP? (coop or competitive ? ...multi-platform... a player can use a DS and the other can use the Wii... so no worries for lack of controllers....)
  28. MadWorld: LOCKED MP (competitive; but very very MP sections)
  29. Excitebots: TRUE MP (?) (competitive for 2 players w/each using own remote)
  30. Wii Play: LOCKED MP (comptetitive, each player using own remote; unlocking only takes 10 minutes)
  31. Swords & Soldiers: TRUE MP (2-player competitive)

I would love to see this kind of info more clearly stated in the games reviews.

Any input will be appreciated - and thanks for all previous help on this forum!

im not so into those titles, but Mario Party 8 is a must.Up to 4 or more players take turns but each event is a game where everyone plays at the same time.Good for party games, best party game. On rail games like Umbrella Chronicles offer full multiplayer, great experience. Also HOTD Overkill. mario strikers, FIFA 09, Pro evo 2009, offer full Mp, up to 2 vs 2 mode and even 4 local VS online oponents. Bomberman online :Wiiware. Up to 4 local players against online. Those are GOOD multiplayer games. There are tons more but not as good i think.

I disagree with Mario Party. They ruined it, it used to be great around the N64'S time, and now they just changed it up and it totally sucks.:P If you want multiplayer, get something like Deblob, but if thats too kiddish, get Resident Evil Umbrealla Chronicles. That will definatley keep you busy.

Thanks, intro94 & BizarreAssaassin! I will update my list. I like more "kiddish" games than violent ones. I will have to check my de Blob when I have time. I started playing it & thought the story was single-player only & only some activities multiplayer. Hopefully, I can check it out tomorrow as I have the day off work :).

new super mario bros wii will be... and i think it'll be the best because everybody likes it... in my case that is... not all of my friends want to play boom blox.... final fantasy crystal chronicles echoes of time is also multiplayer.... though i'm not sure how it works... haven't tried it... but it's multi-platform... a player can use a DS and the other can use the Wii... so no worries for lack of controllers.... Mad world has multiplayer in it... though only a few and i think only 2-player? and you need to play through single player to unlock it i think

Wii Play is a fun multiplayer game. It technically does require you to unlock all of the games, but the unlocking part is a joke. You can do it in about ten minutes and you can do it while playing with another person if you want. The reason developers make these games where you need to unlock most of the multiplayer is because they want to make the single-player mode fun and rewarding in addition to the multi-player mode. If everything was unlocked from the start, the single player game wouldn't be much fun.
