I have become a little bored with shooters, and have begun to understand why the Japenese are a little wary and bored of Western titles. I mean, how many shooters have come and gone in just the past year, and are upcoming, be they first person or third person?

Here is a list of games just this past year:

Halo 3
Bioshock
Crysis
Half-Life 2
Team Fortress
Unreal Tournament
Uncharted: Drake's Fortune
Mass Effect (RPG with shooter as core gameplay mechanic)
Ratchet and Clank (Platformer, but more a shooter- the platforming was a joke, especially compared to Super Mario Galaxy)
Turning Point: Fall of Liberty
Enemy Territory: Quake Wars
CoD4
R6V2
Army of Two
GTA IV
And much more....

Upcoming:

Killzone 2
Resistance 2
Alone In the Dark
MGS4 (Stealth Shooter)
Gears of War 2
CoD5
Haze
Battlefield Bad company
Brothers In Arms: Hell's Highway
Saints Row 2
Mercenaries 2
Silent Hill 5
Resident Evil 5
Bourne Conspiracy
Destroy All Humans! Path of the Furon
Far Cry 2

And much more...

How many non-shooters have I seen?

Past: The Witcher
Sins of a Solar Empire
Devil May Cry IV
Burnout Paradise
Most Wii gammes
Not much more

Upcoming (this year): Little Big Planet
Fable 2
Too Human
Star Wars
Soul Calibur IV
Street Fighter
DBZ
Naruto
Spore
Stacraft II
And not much more......

Very bored with all the shooters. What do you think?

The LittleBigPlanet experience starts with players learning about their character's powers to interact physically with the environment. There are obstacles to explore, bits and pieces to collect and puzzles to solve – requiring a combination of brains and collaborative teamwork. As players begin to explore, their creative skills will grow and they will be ready to start creating and modifying their surroundings – the first step to sharing them with the whole community. Creativity is part of the gameplay experience and playing is part of the creative experience. Players can make their world as open or as secretive to explore as they like. When it's ready, they can invite anyone within the LittleBigPlanet community to come and explore their patch -- or can go and explore everybody else's.

When it's ready, they can invite anyone within the LittleBigPlanet community to come and explore their patch -- or can go and explore everybody else's.
Screen

This genre-busting PS3 offering is turning with its quirky ragdoll, unique patchwork visual **** and revolutionary approach to level design. While you and three friends can simply tussle and hop through premade 2D stages, the game's true appeal lies in the ability to design and share your own levels. The goal with the game is to have users creating tons of new content that will continue to keep the game active long after release. Sony has confirmed that there will be a group of set levels ready to play out of the box -- and even a single-player offline mode for those who don't want to experiment with the community ideas and simply want to play it like they would a traditional platformer.

Characters:

Affectionately dubbed as "Sackboy" (or "Sackgirl") by Media Molecule developers; they're tiny little creatures that are able to run around the world's horizontally scrolling levels of the game, overcoming obstacles as they go. Using the controller, you're able to move your Sackboy around the levels, jump by pressing the X button, or grab onto items (or other Sackfolks) by pressing R1. Simple controls combine with cute design to make Sackboys adorable right from the get-go.

Screen

By default, Sackboy is made out of a drab, brown burlap material, but you'll have tons of ways to customize your personal Sackboy on the fly. By pressing the square button you bring up a menu where you can choose from different heads, body materials, and accessories. With just a few clicks of the X button, we were able to outfit our Sackboy with a fancy top hat, a superhero cape, a dandy Wyatt Earp moustache, and a pirate's hook hand.

Screen

Nice

Creation:

Creation couldn't be simpler: You and up to three pals all hop into an expansive 2D stage (although most levels feature three distinct planes) and start designing the layout in real time. The E3 demo allowed you to swap between five different stage backdrops on the fly -- the quaint English Garden (that's the one the GDC level used), a sun-parched desert, a spooky graveyard, a relaxing Zen garden, and a stark, THX 1138-****blank slate for you uppity avant-garde types.

Once players have selected their background and item types, the creation process begins. Each object is entirely physics-based too; so if a ball falls from the sky and lands on a hardwood floor then it will react just as it should (as will all objects). Once users have chosen what they need, they can further customize them by adding stickers, changing their position, or erasing parts of these objects entirely. Players can even put items together to create new working contraptions -- cars, carts, you name it. You can place as many objects as you like in the world.

Screen

In addition to the huge number of stickers that will be available when the game is released, players will be able to upload their own designs to their sticker albums for use on any object they create in the game. The game is even smart enough to have stickers wrap around 3D objects in an intelligent manner. These simple objects can easily turn into quite complex ones with the help of some simple helper parts and tools that greatly expand the depth of creation in the game. For instance, creating an object on the outside edge of another will cause them to merge when you finish their summoning, resulting in a shape that is the combined result of the two basic forms. As an example, the two Media Molecule developers quickly created a wooden snowman-like construct using only resized circles--you can resize and twist shapes in the world before you summon them by manipulating the right stick.

Screen

Another cool tool at your disposal is a "cut" tool that will let you remove sections of any object in the game. The cut tool comes in several shapes--square, circle, and triangle--and just like a "real" object, you can manipulate the size of a cut shape in order to remove exactly what you want. An easy example of the cut tool was a huge wooden block, which the developers sliced sections from, in order to create a makeshift staircase that the Sackboys could then climb to progress through the level. In our experimentation, we noticed that when cutting a hole in the middle of a fabric object, the game will intelligently "stitch" the remaining fabric around the new hole.

Screen

So what do you use all of this customization for? The easy answer is just to mess around and have a good time. The more compelling answer is to create objects you can share with your friends. Any object you create can be sent to a friend, who can then add on or subtract from it, and send it on to someone else, essentially creating an endless cycle of creativity as the object moves around from player to player. Developers showed off a couple of examples of objects created by Media Molecule staff simply using the shapes and tools found in the demo build--standout examples included a huge lumbering, mechanical dinosaur, and an absolutely mind-blowing binary adding machine made out of wood.

The best thing about this entire process, though, is that you can build entire worlds populated with funny gadgets and obstacles in minutes. LittleBigPlanet is one of those rare examples of finding something that really is limited only by your imagination. Expect plenty of awards for this one in '08. According to a Sony producer, someone fairly experienced with the game's level design tool could probably put together a level of the demo's size and complexity in a few hours.

[QUOTE="solaris1979"]

[QUOTE="rogerjak"]Can someone explain what's the difference beetwen FFXIII and Final fantasy Versus XIIIrogerjak

FF13 is the official FF series, FFv13 is based in FF13's universe, sort of like Final Fantasy 12, FFT, FFTA, FFTA2 and FF12:RW are all based in Ivalice. FF13 should be RPG, while versus is action based (think.. kingdom heart).

Thanks for the info ;)

[QUOTE="rogerjak"]Can someone explain what's the difference beetwen FFXIII and Final fantasy Versus XIIIAnFangs_Endes

XIII is supposed to follow 'Lightning' and she is destined to destroy the World. Versus is supposed to follow that gloomy that guy sitting on the throne as he defends his country against those ho would try to steal their Crystal. They're supposed to be un-related other than the fact they're in the same universe.

IIRC.

So versus is a way to milk FF series a bit more. I see...

Dude, they will both have Different gameplay mechanics. Dor different peoples likes and dislikes. Both of them have HUGE budgets. there is no cheap milking going on.

I am probably going to get both.

Final Fantasy XIII

Plot

Setting

Two locations have been revealed to the public so far; Pulse and Cocoon. The world of Final Fantasy XIII is called Pulse. The overworld is plagued by monsters, though little else is known about it.
Cocoon was created by a Crystal as the ideal environment for humans to live in. It is a haven for humankind against Pulse. Cocoon is a beautiful city floating in the sky. It is defended by the Crystal which created it and many advanced technologies. The Crystal creates many things for the city and its inhabitants, such as machines for the people to use. It also produces living beings and raises them.
The people of Cocoon perceive everything outside of Cocoon (the world of Pulse) as dangerous, and fear it. Those who have been influenced by the people of Pulse (Outsiders), are quarantined by the "Holy Government" of Cocoon, and deported to Pulse. The prisoners shown in the E3 2006 trailer are being deported.

The Crystals

The Crystals in Final Fantasy XIII have conscious thought; they are living beings. They can create things, and so it is likely the people of Final Fantasy XIII's world see them as gods. We know of two Crystals in the world of Final Fantasy XIII; Cocoon's and Pulses'. Cocoon's Crystal created the city and cares for it. Everything outside Cocoon is controlled by Pulses' Crystal. It is not known if there are more Crystals.

Characters

Lightning

Lightning

Final Fantasy XIII shows a strong independent character, a young woman with strawberry blonde hair. She uses the codename "Lightning" to hide her true identity, though she does not know it herself. She was chosen by one of the crystals (we do not know which) to destroy Cocoon.
The two yellow stripes on Lightning's left shoulder symbolize her rank and social status. Her weapon, which can be shifted between a sword mode and a firearm mode at will, bears many similarities to Final Fantasy VIII's gunblade. Lightning can also use gravity as a tool and weapon. As seen in the E3 2006 trailer, she can defy gravity, often levitating. When in this trance, sparks fly around her body. She was also seen wielding double enders inside the train in the E3 2006 trailer. Character designer Tetsuya Nomura was asked to create a "female version of Cloud from Final FantasyVII", and has described her as "not very feminine".

Unnamed Male ("Mr. 33cm")

Unnamed Male

A blond, bandana-wearing male who rides a motorcycle and wields a gun (possibly a sniper rifle). In the Jump Festa 2007 trailer, he is shown coming to Lightning's aid when she is outnumbered by soldiers. Very little is known about him. He is currently nicknamed "Mr. 33cm", which is supposed to be his shoe size.

Gameplay

combat System

Combat in Final Fantasy XIII

Battle system

The concept for Final Fantasy XIII's battle system is to maintain the strategic side of 'command input' battles while also including the excitement found in 'fast-paced' battles. Like recent entries in the franchise, the battles will be in real time, without any random battles. It has been confirmed that Final Fantasy XIII will have parties.
As seen in the E3 2006 trailer, battles are menu driven. Commands are selected from a reel on the bottom left side of the screen. Each command has an ATB Cost, which reduces the ATB bar. It is believed that the bar fills up over time, like the traditional ATB system, but in Final Fantasy XIII you can input commands while it is still filling.
Selected commands are placed on a row of upcoming moves (above the ATB bar). As Lightning fights, she will use each command in turn, with the current command in use turning yellow. Commands can be chained together for certain effects. The environment also plays a role in battle, as seen in the E3 2006 trailer when Lightning sends a soldier into a light, electrocuting him and multiplying the damage.
A map is seen in the upper left hand corner of the battle screen, though in the only footage available, the dots aren't moving. This is likely to change as Final Fantasy XIII goes further into development. Presumably, blue dots are allies and red dots are enemies. The dots emitting circles are the characters currently affected by the fighting.
The upper right-hand corner of the battle screen shows a circular-shaped gauge, representing the Overclock mode. When full, Overclocking allows the player to induce a slow-motion effect, almost pausing time for everything other than the player. Once Overclock is activated, a rapidly decreasing number appears inside the circular gauge, signifying the duration of the Overclock status. This system may replace the traditional Limit Break system found in previous Final Fantasy games.
Summoning will return in Final Fantasy XIII. Summons are shown as partly mechanical beings, and it has been hinted that they will feature not only in battle, but in outside gameplay as well. Shiva is the only summon to have been revealed. In Final Fantasy XIII, she takes the form of a pair of sisters who can merge into a bike. The blonde-haired character from the Jump Festa 2006 trailer is seen riding this vehicle.
Although the main focus of Final Fantasy XIII is offline, Square Enix is attempting to add special online features to the game. Final Fantasy X battle director Toshiro Tsuchida will return as the battle system director for the game. Final Fantasy XIII's crew is aiming to recreate battles like the ones seen in Final Fantasy VII Advent Children, and place them into a playable environment. Toshiro Tsuchida has the intent of giving individual enemies their own personalities and background stories.

Final Fantasy Versus XIII

Plot

Setting

As with every Final Fantasy, the ****of this world is unique, appearing to blend both modern and medieval aesthetics. The main character's country appears to be very advanced and modern, as one example, while neighbouring countries appear to have remained in an era similar to the Middle Ages. The main power in the world are the Crystals. All the countries (aside from the protagonist's) have had them at one time, only to lose them in continual warfare. They had pooled their resources into weapons, granting them advanced rifles rather than swords and magic. Now, only the main character's country has a Crystal, triggering debate over its use as it is beneficial to the military. Recently, a peace treaty was discussed (Mentioned in the radio in the JF trailer). However, marauders with guns invade the city as the main character battles them, disrupting the peace.
Tetsuya Nomura has said "Versus XIII is supposed to resemble the modern-day world. I wanted to make this world resemble our world we live in today. This is integrated to the story as well but the reason I chose to use a Shakespeare quote at the beginning of the trailer is to make the tie with the real world we live today".
Characters

Character

The protagonist is a mysterious young man with dark blue-ish gray hair with matching eyes. He is the last heir to a dynasty, ruling the only remaining city in the world which controls crystals. He protects his home from marauders that plan to conquer the city and take the crystals as their own. He wields a number of different weapons, including swords, spears, and lances, and can even induce them (telekinetically or otherwise) to independently move in the air to form a whirling barrier around himself. He has also demonstrated the power of instantaneous teleportation. His physical features seem to change depending on his actions, as his eye color turns red when holding his sword and his hair flashes white when teleporting. Nomura has said that his eye color will change to more colors, some scans have shown him with bright yellow eyes when holding a different sword, and other colors like green. As hinted by Nomura, it has been shown he can use magic and do other unrevealed/unknown things.
Nomura has also confirmed that a heroine, parallel to the protagonist, will be present in the game.
Other revealed characters are the mysterious soldiers. These unknown warriors wear medieval-**** armor, but also carry assault rifles resembling modern automatic weapons. Is is known that they are some of marauders tryping to take the crysals as their own. Another character revealed is a new character wearing all white (a possibly symbolic contrast from the protagonist's darker clothing) introduced in the new trailer. The character is seen in protagonist's building near the castle as they both cast spells at each other, implying that they are enemies.
As of September 2007, two more characters have been revealed during the Tokyo Game Show. One character is a young woman who apparently wields a rapier while the other, according to Gamespy.com, is a young man who appears to be an acquaintance of the protagonist.

Gameplay

Gameplay

In recent interview translations, Nomura says the game will play like a more realistic version of Kingdom Hearts with some elements of a third-person shooter similar to Dirge of Cerberus. New interviews have stated Nomura's wish to push away from "light magical" **** (he specifically references Kingdom Hearts) and opt for a much bleaker realistic world. He wants the characters to be perceived as believable humans that the player can relate to rather than simply fabricated characters.

Namco Bandai is the developer, as mentioned in the description.

They are the makers of Tekken, Time Crisis, and Soul Calibur games.
