@zizi393 @denhoffi I get what they are trying to do in theory it is just that I have a few issues with that. I do realize that this Steam Box as it is presented here is way more powerful than the next-gen consoles and would push the graphical limits, but it will also be way more costly than the consoles(and I still don't understand why people wouldn't just buy a PC then). In that regard consoles can't compete with PCs and they shouldn't, both have entirely different strategies and markets. I think I explained enough what PC gaming is for in my first comment, console gaming stands for affordable gaming (at least console wise) and great exclusives. I personally don't want everything to be worn down until we just have a market that needs gamers to build their own boxes (and in the end that is the concept for Steam Boxes), that will create a few problems, it would probably create a "race for the best box" among gamers which a lot of people couldn't afford.

Also I don't understand your last point, console exclusives won't run on SteamOS they will stay console exclusive, you won't see Uncharted, Last of Us or Halo on any Steam Box.

Ok so a lot of people are saying that these Steam Boxes will compete against consoles and possibly be a serious threat, honestly I don't see it. Maybe I don't really understand it and somebody can correct me but this is how I see it:

I think this is a similar situation like we had with the XboxOne before the changes, a good product, being terribly misunderstood why people like it and then developed and modeled for consumers that are not the core audience. Like a lot of people say PC gaming is a special form of gaming, a lot of those people are hardcore gamers that want the best graphics and the games to run as smooth as possible but none (or just a very limited number of people) are going to buy it because they have there gaming PCs. So who are they looking for to buy this thing, console gamers, but if they want to get a part of that market a box with those specs is not the way to do it (I know that there are going to be other Boxes able to run SteamOS but if they will have the same specs as consoles then whats the point?) because those boxes will have a huge price point that will not be interesting to the average gamer. And that is what Valve is forgetting in my opinion, the casual gamer that just buys the yearly CoD or Fifa will never get a Steam Box, the actual gamer will still keep its console because of all the exclusives (+maybe some of them will even have a gaming PC) and the hardcore PCgamers will not change from a PC to a Steam Box so to whom is this thing marketed?

I love how the editor thought that was the picture to go with for this article, I imagine how it went down:"Hey we could take the picture of the new assassin in the new game, or the Assassins Creed logo, or the Ubisoft logo." "No, let's just go with a random women who looks shocked and is bleeding."

@danabo @tom2750 You two stop fighting, it's stupid. To Danabo: to post a list of MS studios that everyone can go see on a Wikipedia page is not smart and has nothing to do with the quality of the games, you said multiple times that the quality of the games is subjective and that is true so why do you still argue with people. To Tom2750: imo the Sony exclusives are better but that doesn't mean someone else can disagree and like the MS ones better so what are we even arguing about.

I don't want to start a shitstorm or anything but a lot of PC gamers always complain about console exclusives so what are they going to say if HL3 is going to be a SteamOS exclusive?

@GamesWere4Fun So in your opinion Sony is doing a "smear campaign" because they kept the system that we all liked and advertised it because MS was doing something totally different and putting restrictions on gamers? The original XboxOne was planned as a system where MS could earn money even after the initial sale of a game and trying to control where we buy it to control the price of games and keep them high as long as possible. Sony saw that that wasn't what most gamers wanted and advertised a different kind of console, they never said a bad word about MS they just presented their own product which is hardly a "smear campaign".

Now to you ridiculous point that:"At least MS has been open and willing to work with gaming fans", are you kidding me!?! Let us just quickly analyze how MS presented its new console, they had two major events, the reveal and E3 to give us all the details about the new console and what it does and doesn't do and what did they do? They said nothing about all of the restrictions, they didn't talk about the DRM, the always having to be connected, the "only selected stores will be able to sell used games", etc., they didn't say a single word about those things at the reveal or E3. Instead they released those things in sneaky press-releases after the events, hoping nobody would find out or the attention wouldn't be as big for this and you say they were open? In my opinion they knew from the beginning how shitty their concept was but they still tried to sneak it in and hoped the backlash wouldn't be as big, but it was and so they changed (which is great) but don't try to make Sony look bad because they actually took a stand for gamers (and of course it was just because Sony saw they could sell more without those restrictions, so what?).

@Sevenizz @denhoffi I don't really see the point of your comment because I wrote in my comment what you just said:"...the power and capabilities of a console don't matter, that is true, often it was the console with the best games that won a console battle and not the most powerful one..."

MS what are you even talking about? I still think this a very weak marketing strategy but it's all they have left, PS4 is more powerful and cheaper so of course the games are all they have left to advertise.

Just one thing to all the statements that the power and capabilities of a console don't matter, that is true, often it was the console with the best games that won a console battle and not the most powerful one, but this time it is a little bit different because the two consoles are so similar. The PS3 is way more powerful then the Xbox360 but in the end they sold the same amount of units, but that had other reasons, mostly a ridiculous price from Sony for the PS3 launch and a lack of games, in addition the PS3 was extremely difficult to develop for so devs needed time to garner the real power of the PS3 but now we see with games like Beyond that the PS3 is better(in terms of tech). This time around it is different, both consoles are mostly the same, so the PS4 is more powerful AND easy to develop for which is a big plus for them and they are also cheaper. In other words the PS4 will at some point in its life cycle look slightly better and run smoother for less money, which leads us to the games.

Wow an MS exec saying that their games are better, this is news! But seriously the launch games are mostly multiplats and the few exclusives at launch really don't make a difference and even then I personally would argue that the PS4 exclusives are better at launch and with inFamous coming out a few months later but this is just my opinion.
