For me it's Thief. It starts so well with Garrett being an homeless orphan stealing to survive who is rescued by the brotherhood of keepers. He uses their skills to steal better as he grows older. Despite trying his best to stay neutral and not getting involved in matters bigger than him, he always ends up going deeper in the rabbit's hole just like Geralt from the Witcher. After everything is done, you end up being in the same place towards the end of the trilogy where the first game began, but you end up being in someone else's shoes this time around. A complete circle. Epic journey.

After that, it's The Witcher for me. Honorable mentions: Mass Effect, Starcraft 2 trilogy. Would've mentioned Max Payne if 3rd game's plot wasn't a mess.

OK I have a confession to make. I've never been a massive Final Fantasy player, not because they are bad games. Actually I didn't get time to try them. Did play few of em here and there but I've missed a lot. Now I'm thinking about getting into the series. I've seen footage of Final Fantasy XV when it was in development and it looked quite interesting. It came out, overall reception was positive but something tells me it wasn't as well received as fans wanted it to, especially after such a long development time. And on other hand, it also takes over 100 GB of disk space, so it'll take some time to download the game.

Can some of you shed some light on the game? Is it worth playing? Must have or just Ok- ish game?

PS: Getting on PC.

I'm so glad that it's not going to be some cookie cutter sequel with just a popular brand name and low AF production values. After masterful two recent divinity games, I'm just hyped for this one. Success of those games have clearly allowed them to go a bit further in bringing this franchise back.

@NoodleFighter:

Thank you for listing these games. I'll check them out in detail later. Cool stuff is happening behind the scenes in Asia. Eager to see where we go next.

This generation has been a blessing in disguise for gamers in general especially the ones thirsty for old school gaming that disappeared in second half of last generation. Digital distribution and PC architecture of consoles revolutionized PC gaming in recent years. Platforms like Steam, GOG and Epic Store made devs more confident to target PC as a lead platform. We saw Console centric games coming to PC this gen due to profitable PC platform but also because it was a lot easier to port games over due to same architecture being shared by all major platforms.

Some devs have even changed their core design because of success of PC centric distribution platforms. Assassin's Creed might be the best example of it. It was a series that always received delayed PC ports. Earlier ports didn't even highlight PC's Keyboard and Mouse layout but instead assumed that you were playing the game on a Controller. Sure later entries in the franchise did innovate in User Interface department but the core gameplay was still designed with Consoles in mind. You had Controller centric movement and checkpoint based save system and poor optimization.

After the success of games like the Witcher trilogy and Divinity saga (designed for PCs primarily) among others, Assassin's Creed started taking cues from old school computer RPGs and with AC: Origins, gave us PC centric controls and game design. Odyssey went further. These games featured more PC specific features than we often see in PC exclusive games even. You had FOV in a third person game, Grid based User interface for mouse, Quick selection slots designed for keyboard, several resolutions, borderless fullscreen support, good optimization, stunning visuals, Uncapped frame rates and even manual save system.

Industry went back in time to take inspiration for their games unlike last gen. During the last gen copying COD was the trend, this gen, it's about taking inspiration from old school genres and video games. I'd say PC is at the center of it all. You have beloved franchises like Doom, VTM Bloodlines, Shadow Warrior, System Shock and so on coming back. You have computer RPGs like Divinity and highly anticipated ones like Baldur's Gate 3 being made by extremely talented Larian Studios. Creative Assembly as usual is doing their own magic as they've been for 2 decades and are still releasing one high end masterpiece after another.

You have Wolcen: Lords of Mayem, probably the prettiest looking isometric ARPG in the market at the moment developed by a small studio. You have boundary pushing video games like Squadron 42 coming out in the near future with final beta being planned for this year. You have titans like Half Life: Alyx and Cyberpunk 2077 coming out in the near future targeting PC as a lead platform. You have games like Control that put Remedy back on track. Microsoft Flight Sim, displaying photorealistic visuals. Age of Empires is back. Homeworld: Deserts of Kharrak kicked ass.

STALKER 2 is in development. Next game in Hellblade franchise is looking fantastic. A good Star Wars game came out recently. Microsoft has more or less started to focus on PC as their main platform and there are rumors of Sony showing interests in the said platform. More and more multiplatform games are utilizing strengths of every platform without compromising any version because it's a lot easier to do so these days. Not to mention the way industry has matured over the years.

At the end of the day, it's great time to be a gamer.

I agree with thief I loved the og Xbox game but they seemed to play it safe with the last one maybe last gen held it back.

Deadly Shadows, the one on Xbox was dumbed down compared to first two games but it was still a great game despite flaws. Reboot was pretty disappointing. However, you must play first two games. They should run on any PC you have at home these days.

Thief probably. No matter how much I try to ignore, I just can't stop talking about the original trilogy and clear misconceptions about them when someone approaches these games with wrong mindset. I explain how certain mechanics work and why were they put in the game. I clear things up and tell them why the thing they complain about actually makes sense and serves a bigger purpose. May be because Thief changed the way I judge entertainment industry or look at things. It was a life changing experience for me when I played the trilogy for the first time in 2014.

It's sad to see that people only focus on what there favorite outlet reports or get circle jerk awards given towards them that mean nothing.

Honestly PC has so much good games and they are of such high quality but completely and utterly ignored by any media because it doesn't fit there pay grade.

Wolcen, billions, anno, warcraft 3 ( even while its a dud of a remaster ), turkov or whatever its called are extreme high quality games. Yet the only thing these people talk about are some shitty game maker that honestly if it released on PC it wouldn't even been looked at but because it has a PS4 logo its the best thing ever.

Oh well i will be playing this when the online issue's are resolved.

I've been reading a TON on the criticism of Warcraft 3 reforged.

And honestly most of the criticism have been going towards:

- not redoing the cutscnes

- not redoing the voice acting

- not remaking the campaign missions to be more in line with WOW

Personally though, I haven't played a single minute of WOW, so I couldn't care less about them not touching the campaign. I just wanted a graphical remake of the original Warcraft III and that was exactly what was delivered.

I do understand criticisms for being misled, and for expecting a better quality product from Blizzard.

Sad thing is how cutscenes were downgraded since Beta. The WIP version had better presentation than the final product. But I can get over it, however I am hearing reports of it being buggy mess. That is the reason why I haven't bought it yet. I have no doubt that updates will fix most of these issues but right now it's holding me back.

Definitely getting this. Looked interesting since day one.

I've been playing it for the better part of 2 years or so, it's been fun seeing how it's developed. I really enjoyed it in early access, and I love Diablo 2 and Torchlight and Grim Dawn and Titan Quest.

I think if you have even a moderate like of isometric action-RPGs you should consider it.

Plus it's an independent game, always nice to support studios that strike out on their own and make something enjoyable.

Of course I love Isometric games as long as they're well made. Doesn't matter if they are turn based cRPGs like Divinity: OS or Diablo and Torchlight like Dungeon Crawlers. Love em. Definitely getting this ASAP. Apart from launch day server issues in multiplayer mode, the game's launch (especially on Single Player side) is being received well.
