I'm happy to see a next (current) gen MK, but I doubt I'll be buying it. I may rent it. Otherwise, I'll just watch the fatalities on Youtube. That's the highlight of the game for me. MK 9 kept me mildly intrigued with the combat, but not very much, and now they're going back to what they tried in the PS1 and 2 MK days, giving the people different fighting styles and stuff, which totally turned me off the game. I'm a fan of the classic playing style, not movelists that stretch out over 50 moves like in Tekken and such. I'm just old school.... 3 special moves and aside from that regular attacks!

Jeez... I don't think the Wii U is gonna last very long at this rate. There's news every day of companies not porting games to Wii U. Now one of the companies that (to my knowledge) produces the graphics engines for TONS of AAA titles has said they're not going to support Wii U. So all the big name games aren't going to see play on Wii U. I hope they've got some amazing Nintendo produced games coming up in the future. Otherwise I see this quickly turning into the shovelware platform Wii became. Hasn't even been out 6 months.. aye

Interesting article. I already had a feeling that this generation would be my last gaming generation though. This kinda stuff makes me further feel that way. I think the most telling statement in this article was: "Games either fall into the AAA classification or take an independent route". That's why there are hardly any original games anymore. Back in the SNES days games hardly made it past 1 sequel, but there was no lack of games available. Companies are too afraid to take the risk or a failed game so they keep working with a tried and true formula. I miss those days. And PS4 having an LCD touch screen, next XBOX having Kinect built in, WiiU having a tablet controller..... it seems like it's more about the hardware than the software and that's no way to be.

I had a feeling this was coming. It's normal, and I think society just laughs at these kinds of accusations at this point. People are always trying to find scapegoats and video games are easy to point the finger at.

What I would like, it for some statistics company to send him a percentage of people who do these kinds of things that play video games compared to those that don't. I'm sure the stats would show "0.00000000000000000000000000004% of gamers go on killing sprees" or something equally ridiculous, and that regardless the number, in any other industry, that would be such a negligible number that it would be completely ignored.

I'm thinking Wii U may still do well, but not as well as the Wii. The main reasons for that are A) I don't think this console is going to have the wide general appeal that made the Wii a success due to it being a more traditional controller (despite having the display on the controller) and B) I went to Best Buy and Gamestops over the weekend and they still had Wii Us in stock. I was going to buy one and put it on eBay thinking it'd be like the original Wii and i could flip it for twice as much or something, but there's hardly any demand for it on eBay either. If a brand new system is still available after Black Friday weekend, that's not a great sign I don't think. And when talking with the guy at Gamestop about it, he said that a ton of people cancelled their preorders, that's why they had so many in stock.

I was one of those who ran around to all the stores to find a Wii and managed to get one in the first week it was available, at a Blockbuster of all places. I was totally excited hehe. But this one.... I'm not sure if I'll be buying it. It could be that I'm older now but I'm not even sure I'll invest in the next generation of consoles. In the past year or two, the only games I've really played have been Arkham City, Mario Bros., and Borderlands 1/2. I haven't bought any of the big games aside from those, i.e. never played Mass Effects, not getting Halo 4, none of the Elder Scrolls, etc. If I do get another console it'll be later on down the road. And while I think the Wii U has a cool design idea, I barely played my Wii this whole past generation.

I completely agree with the last statement - "It tells them that there's no need to risk money on something truly original" and the "appetite for sameness". That's one of the things that I hate about gaming trends. Actually, entertainment trends in general. I was born in 83, and before the last maybe two generations, a game rarely made it past 3 or 4 sequels. There are hardly any brand new games coming out. Instead of looking forward to new and exciting games, all we have is the next part of a game we already know. While that's great for business as far as money as concerned, it sucks for us yearning for new things. Just looking at the top 10 games for 360 now, 8 of the 10 games are sequels to established franchises. I hate that with the way things are going, all we're going to have to look forward to are Mass Effect 7, Silent Hill 12, Assassin's Creed 5, Resident Evil 16, etc. etc.
