Really love the idea of this game. I hope the early naysaying is wrong.

The animus and the repetitive gameplay were the reasons I couldn't stomach finishing the first game and the reason I never returned to the series. I played 2/3 of AC and haven't bothered with it since.

@Buck_Swaggler Oh I believe they could easily have come up with a non-ridiculous glue for this series. I found the animus unforgivably absurd and it alone was the reason I never played beyond the first game. In fact I couldn't force myself past the first 2/3 of AC 1. Beautiful game with ridiculous story and repetitive gameplay.

@Entropy2k I disagree. Censoring them here only forces them to fling their bile elsewhere it doesn't address the core problem that this person thinks and believes horrible things. In my opinion, the community should take a more proactive role in thoughtfully influencing these misguided commenters. After all what is really offensive is not the words but the underlying idea the author embraces. And those ideas won't be eradicated by simply suppressing the author's ability to express them.

Telling people they can't say things you don't like doesn't make them stop thinking them. In fact often times it has the exact opposite effect of forcing the person to dig in deeper.

Frankly I think it's great that people say exactly what they think. When you get right down to it what is offensive isn't the words it's the thought and the fact that these people actually believe the horrible ideas they're expressing. Yeah it's unpleasant to read the invective but at the same time it gives the community a chance to help correct the misguided thinking. The problem here seems to be that not enough people speak up in a constructive manner to challenge this backwards thinking and to help disabuse these people of their misguided views. We see a lot of hand wringing these days by sites that have comment sections about what to do about it. They all seem to be trying to convince themselves that it would be best to censor commentary. I don't agree. That may sanitize your site's comment section but it doesn't address the underlying problem of ignorance and hate. Allowing these people to speak up gives us the community the opportunity to help guide them toward more enlightened and civilized modes of self-expression.

I've seen it done and done well in forums before. Challenge ignorance with respect, and reason and you can actually influence people in meaningful ways. If you see someone posting something offensive do not respond in kind. Instead speak to them with respect and courtesy as you explain to them that their views are harmful. It doesn't even need to be done in a thousand words. A simple "that is not cool," more than suffices to convey to the author that the view he/she is expressing is not embraced by the community. This problem isn't going to go away; on the other hand in my opinion in it would be far more productive to view this not as a problem but as it is a means to the solution to a much bigger problem that exists well beyond the confines of these forums. Take the time to *thoughtfully* and *respectfully* challenge offensive posts the results will speak for themselves.

@dipdish The whole idea is bad at this point. I think they just waited too long to get to this. World of Warcraft is old tired news. I might have been interested four years ago.

@Jacanuk @supermax1211 I would argue that she may have compensated for her personal views because despite her fairly serious criticisms and the fact that it is the *fifth* in an already uncreative series she still gave it a very high score. If I just listened to her review without knowing ahead of time what she rated it I would have guessed she'd come out at an 8 or so. Not saying I necessarily believe she inflated her score to avert some of inevitable torrent of pre-pubescent brimstone but who would blame her if she did.

@Daian @supermax1211 Not sure I agree that their reviews are unduly influenced but I do agree that their scores do seem skew relatively high.
