@GYTISLEE Suikoden V to me was great, had some really powerful moments. But that's the only one I've played unfortunately. Would love a PS3 Suikoden game.

Most of the games I play are story-intensive games that you have to spend a lot of time playing. So generally there is a lot of characterisation and I do tend to start creating emotional attachments to certain characters, whether those emotions be positive or negative.

However I don't necessarily agree that for this to happen characters have to look 'real'. As other people have mentioned some of the games that have evoked strong emotional responses in some players were older games that have poor graphics compared to modern games. Hell even modern games have poor graphics compared to other modern games (if that makes sense?) but it doesn't make a great game or even a believable one. I think that if some companies invested a little less money in making their game worlds hyper-realistic and hyper-detailed and put a little more resources into fleshing out their characters and their scripts they could make that emotional connection a lot more easily.

@Adenosine It's been stated multiple times now by developers; this story is not about Batman's origin story so much as the origin of his evolution as a vigilante, from busting drug rings to fighting super-criminals (first encounter with Joker, Bane, etc.)

I remember distinctly hearing that this was roughly Year Two for Batman.

So no, it probably wasn't part of the full game to begin with. At all. It was probably thought of after the main game was already in development; "Hey, I know this isn't a Year One game, but why not put a bit of that in here as an extra? It wouldn't make total sense as part of the main narrative but the fans would like it as a bonus level."

See if this was a game like Call of Duty or something with pretty much no story or characters to speak of, the lack of innovation would be a bad thing.

But this is Batman! As awesome as the gameplay in the Arkham games is, my favourite parts were the story and the characters. This game is not just about mindlessly bashing thugs with cool moves - it's also about telling an interesting Batman story, and that's a big part of why people will buy and play this game. So I don't get why these two are thinking that they'll need 'luck' to sell this game or whatever he said.

And you have to remember - the game isn't being developed by Rocksteady. WB Montreal is a new developer being handed a successful franchise and I think they probably are worried about screwing with things too much and getting backlash. So there's a certain element of trying to play it a little safe here.

Now of course if Batman games were being churned out yearly and nothing new was ever done, then yes, it would get stale. And I hope that there's more in the game that hasn't been revealed yet, but if not - hopefully, WB Montreal's next game will show them becoming more confident and taking more risks. Or perhaps Rocksteady really is developing another Batman game as well, and they'll do what they did for City and really expand the parameters from the last game.

@jayjay444 @COPMAN221ISBACK

On the UK amazon website the PS4 is no. 1 on the gaming bestsellers list - Xbox One is 3rd!

(2nd is The Last of Us.)

Dunno why so many people are surprised about this being an action game. The guy in charge of its development was Tetsuya Nomura, the father of the kingdom hearts series.

And the kingdom hearts games are actually really good, so I have high hopes.

I own Rekka no Ken, The Sacred Stones, and Shadow Dragon, but Awakening is far and away my personal favourite of the series that I've played so far. The world map makes unit management a lot easier, it's possible to grind if you need to level up weaker units, upgrading is 10x easier, and the support function has been expanded incredibly. I heartily recommend this game.
