The overall solution to piracy is social, not technological.
Until people feel a moral obligation to pay for the IP they enjoy, piracy will be rampant.
With regards to all of these technical solutions the TC brings up I can only comment that the more hardcore the DRM/copy protection the more likely it is to ailenate customers PARTICULARLY if it breaks the IP they have purchased a liscense to enjoy.
In the words of many many people in many many threads on the subject: Stardock has it right.
Valve and Blizzard have their own hybrid solution in which the main event for consumers is the superb multiplayer services provided by the developer. Online play is easily authenticated via key and this deters MASSIVE amounts of piracy. With Bliz and Valve you're paying for the critical mass the blockbusters generate in the multiplayer arena and peerless (pun not intended) matchmaking services.
