Am I the only one who didn't find that montage all that impressive? Seemed kind of like run of the mill PC fps to me. Now if a bunch of people were doing that with pads I'd be impressed. All that reel really demonstrates is the entry level to pubbing PC FPS's. Anything lower than that and you're just going to get owned over and over unless you're playing with other noobs.

Painballz

You do know the game was COD2, right?

Oui, however... I was under the impression we were commenting on the control scheme/player skill factor. I don't see how it being COD2 has any bearing on that. Just not that impressive in the sea of PC FPS players.

I love PC gaming but I have to list as a con:

Increasingly intrusive copy protection often breaks legitly purchased games and occasionally kills hardware/OS installs.

Seriously, if you use your PC for other things that involve sensitive information (which almost all of us do) you need a secure system and having rootkits floating around that you can't monitor kind of jacks any security you have.

The overall solution to piracy is social, not technological.

Until people feel a moral obligation to pay for the IP they enjoy, piracy will be rampant.

With regards to all of these technical solutions the TC brings up I can only comment that the more hardcore the DRM/copy protection the more likely it is to ailenate customers PARTICULARLY if it breaks the IP they have purchased a liscense to enjoy.

In the words of many many people in many many threads on the subject: Stardock has it right.

Valve and Blizzard have their own hybrid solution in which the main event for consumers is the superb multiplayer services provided by the developer. Online play is easily authenticated via key and this deters MASSIVE amounts of piracy. With Bliz and Valve you're paying for the critical mass the blockbusters generate in the multiplayer arena and peerless (pun not intended) matchmaking services.
