Hi, i've got a P4 3Ghz Northwood and 4 x 512mb PC3200 ram. It's currently on a Socket 478 motherboard
My graphics card is a Geforce 6600GT.

What sort of motherboard would I need to be able to put everything in a small case? Is Micro ATX the smallest you can go?

Basically I'm passing on my PC to my mum and she wants the pc to be as small as possible. I'll keep my current case for the new pc parts I'll get.

Thanks for any help you can give

For something that's out of date out of the box, even £70 seems expensive. Meanwhile people are saying that the 8600 is slow, and that the best card to get is around £200, which is the same price as the Xbox 360 will be soon. It seems to me that there isn't a sensible choice, only big compromise if you don't want to pay big prices...

So why is it better?

I am after graphics rather than stupid amount of frames per second or insane high resolutons that my monitor can't support. Would the recommendation still be the same? Directx 10 looks like it has some special graphics, like that thing in World in Conflict where the wind and vehicles affect smoke etc...

Hi, I am going to upgrade my pc soon and I've seen a Jetway X1950 Pro for £70 and a Geforce 8600GT for £90 and I was wondering which one to get. I know that the X1950 is faster but the 8600 has Directx 10. I'll be looking to play new games like Bioshock and C&C 3, Company of heroes and the forthcoming update etc..

Thanks for any info and opinions anyone can give.

Those cards aren't cheap o_O, even second hand on ebay they're about £80. I think i'll take my chances with directx 10

I'm not quite sure I follow when both the Gefoce 7600GT and the 8600GT are the same price at £90 and the same speed, yet the 8600 has DX10 at least....

Would that be a good compromise on the graphics card? http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/ProductInfo.asp?WebProductID=599469 I'd have to get a heat sink for it because I record music in the same room.
