When I was dealing with depression, my life consisted primarily of three things: video games, skateboarding and sleeping. I was unemployed at the time, so I had plenty of free time on my hands, and while video games didn't really help with my depression, they helped pass the time when I didn't know what else to do with myself. Honestly it was the physical activity of skateboarding that helped the most. Being outside, getting exercise, exploring new areas that I lived near, and feeling a constant, but slow and steady progression of my skills helped more than it didn't. Plus the violence endemic in the activity provided some catharsis.

Though if I'm honest with myself, the biggest thing to help me out of the spiral of depression was landing my job at GameSpot. Having something to fill my time, and being able to spend my time doing things to put myself on a positive trajectory helped more than all the stairsets and kickflip attempts and Everquest Levelling ever could.

Thanks, GameSpot.

@elementrium Now, Whenever anyone in the office starts talking about how cool a game is, I shut them down by asking "But does it have space rockets?"

@SirNormanislost @TylerW @lindallison I finally crash landed a Kerbal safely there the other night but now he's stranded. So now I'm trying to launch a rescue mission to get him home safely.

Makes me really glad that you don't have to worry about food, air and water for your crew.

@lindallison Yeah, seeing it constantly on the Steam front page was what eventually lured me in. Of course, then I realized I was fairly late to the party on this game, but at the same time, still wanted to introduce to others.

If you're curious about it, I would certainly recommend it. If you're okay with setting your own goals and achieving them, there's plenty of fun to be had even without the career mode / objectives being in the game. I've sunk about 12 hours in already and feel like I've only scratched the surface.

@Saketume The Space Planes that you can build seem like what you're looking for. I didn't highlight them much because they're much tougher to build (I never really got the hang of them) and didn't want to fill vie video with wobbly planes and horrible crashes. Also, I couldn't ever get any into space, just flew them around the atmosphere of the home planet.

@NTM23 Towards great video? That's a pretty acceptable bias.
