Like Rayvin said, PC + extras ain't going to fit in a 1k budget, especially for a good gaming PC, so you have to get the PC only, or increase your budget to get it with monitor, keyboard, mouse, etc.

imagine 4870 for $249 nvidia counters with gtx260 OCed for $249... that would be damn nice! :D

chandlerr_360

That wouldn't be much of a counter would it?

No but a GTX280 at $350 sure as hell would

If the GTX 280 went to $350 ATI would be finished, along with their entire 4800 line. Good thing that won't happen :)

then ati would counter with the 4870x2 for 300$? alotugh then both nvidia and ati would be losing alot of money.

Too bad the GTX 280 outperforms the 4870X2.

Unless you have some time machine - how do you know that the GTX280 already outperforms a HD4870X2 (R700 I believe)? The card (4870 X2) hasn't even been released yet.

Where is the 4870X2??

We don't know it's final name yet, it's been speculated to be named 4870 X2, but the codename is R700 and it is another dual GPU on one PCB setup like the 3870 X2 (hence why some would call it 4870 X2)

Search R700 on Google, you might find some preview articles - I believe the card is coming sometime in July. (Hope LordEC will jump into this thread, If I said something wrong, I believe he would smack the living daylights out of me :P )

You could still buy the 4870, remove it's stock heatsink and replace it with an aftermarket one - problem is, I don't know any coolers that might work with the 4870.

Main difference is the features available between each edition (Media Centre, Dreamscene, etc.) - so I wouldn't say that you will gain a performance boost if you got Home Premium, Business, or Ultimate.

to bueron:

I currently HAVE a pentium Dual Core... but like quickchord said, its no good.

what do you people think the difference is going to be in frame rates if I change to say a core 2 duo e8400 instead of my pentium d?

Juglo

There is another Pentium Dual Core - ones that are based on Allendale, they are the E2xxx series, not the D ones - and they are much better than the old Pentium D CPUs.

2GB of RAM is pretty much a definite with computers these days, especially for a gaming system. Beside, with RAM at dirt cheap prices, why go small when you can go big? :D

As for the X1950XTX - it may not be the best card at the moment, but it still holds up for the majority of games out there.

Looks fine, but wonder if people are going to argue against getting the Phenom processor ....

Also, why 3GB of RAM? Might as well go for the full 4GB whiile you're at it...

And maybe a different power supply - I don't know anything about that Hiper one...

Biggest Kagami fan ever?! I don't think so! I AM!! Kagami = goddess!!! (I love your sig, soo many Kagami's *drool*)

Anyways the card might have been either a bad one (OCed too much, or something else) and probably the reason why you got it cheap - check with the person you got it from and ask if there was anything wrong with it.

A long shot, but if the card has problems, ask for a refund, but for $10, I don't think that will happen and get another from somewhere else like eBay.
