@loafofgame @TheBruuz Well, I disagree with that. Opinions vary wildly according to who states them and even the same person can change opinions...frequently...

Objective criteria don't. An objective criterium sets a standard, a fixed point against which you can judge other similar criteria. Objectivity is perspective, opinion is an in most cases myopic personal idea.

@II_Exile_II Wrong. There are ways to objectivise scores. It just comes down to develop measurables. For instance, let's say I would subdivide the "animation" into a sub "character animation", a score could be dependant on the number of character animations in the game (be it idle animation, moves, e-mote animation, etc), it makes a number that can be measured. No subjectivity here, just a hard objective fact.

Just accepting scores as opinion is bs. Again, of no value whatsoever, which means coming to this site would be pointless, and that's not what this site intends.

I think Gamespot needs to set up some objective criteria to score games. Something that you stick to and will allow us to anchor games around these. Split score up into categories: graphics, gameplay, animation, story, music, etc, and develop subcategories against which you put down a score, the aggregate being the final score. Objectively justify how you score a game!
Opinions are subjective, and of little or no value.

@pongley @TheBruuz @BrahManDude Objective criteria is what this game review site should say they are. They choose what they are and abide by these "laws". Even if we agree or not with these criteria, they are a starting point to help you make a solid decision on wheter or not to buy a game. When they stick to their guns and abide to these criteria we can anchor any game around them and make informed decisions.

Opinions are subjective, because I may like one thing you like and hate another you like.

@BrahManDude Then what's the point of coming to a game review site? I don't want opinions, I want researched, tested and as much as possible ojective reviews. If I wanted all over the place opinions I can just read comments in fora. A number on this site SHOULD be a consensus of a game for the site. If not, then these reviews have absolutely no added value!!

Expect a call from Activision/Bungie why then it wasn't a younger person reviewing the game, if opinions vary that much...

While I get what you're saying (I'm 40+ and feel likewise), you'll want to rethink a strategy where one reviewer tanks a game (I gave the game a 7 and was mostly in sync with Kevin) and another then says that all opinions are out there...

I think you guys are in desperate need of an editor.

@knighthavok Maybe that would push the 6.9 average user score towards a 7, where I think it belongs.

@bottaboomstick It's not that black or white. I've done a hundred escapes in CoD Ghost exctinction, and had fun every single one, because you can play it quite differently depending on class/loadout/relics/guns. I'm trying to like this game, and it's not all bad, but me and my friends are already starting to sigh. It's getting boring too fast.

Just out of curiosity, how old is everyone that likes this game?

Me and a couple of friends, we're the older gamers ;p , have this distinct feeling that younger people are a lot more positive, much less critical than we are.

Is this because we have played all the games since the history of gaming and we judge any new game in the light of all the great and unforgettable moments we have lived? Is it because we know in our hearts that games still can be legendary good and we abhore any attempt to be just "on par" because of that? It's certainly because we hope for new heights and because we are disappointed when publishers zealously cry out only to show us nothing new.

@PHuNKPHeNoMeNoN Sorry, but if compared to just FPS, CoD Ghosts is head and shoulders above this game, storymode and pvp, and extinction at least is a lot of fun even if you do it many times over. Pumping a million rounds into a Destiny boss is not my idea of fun...
