A game website is supposed to keep us up to date with releases of games and review new titles etc. It is not the personal blog of Gamespot employees to write about whatever they are into.

Over the last few weeks we've been bombarded with Destiny 2 articles, the staff will talk about TV shows and movies that grab their interest, meanwhile they totally neglect to review one of the most anticipated racing titles of the year; Project CARS 2.

It is already apparent that the majority of staff have very little interest in racing games. Years ago racing sims such as GTR 2 and Race 07 got attention but now even top selling multi-platform racers get completely overlooked.

When they do occasionally decide to dip their toe, it is obvious to anyone that spends much time playing racing sims or even semi-realistic racing games that we are being given the impession from a casual fan of the genre. They spend plenty of time talking about how pretty the graphics are and they only praise a game if it is accessible to newcomers/casual fans while totally overlooking important nuances that are critical to get right in a racing game (things as fundamental and important as FOV adjustment or the lack of it which is critical when it comes to "placing you behind the wheel" especially when using a FFB wheel setup).

It is totally hypocritical to condemn a racing sim for being too difficult/inaccessible (or even sometimes just for being too focused on racing/driving without "fun" distractions) for casual players and then give a great score to something like the Dark Souls series or a strategy game that doesn't pull its punches. While it is impossible to be completely objective when it comes to things like reviews or giving an impression, like I said before, the staff are supposed to be journalists and as such should try to give a somewhat balanced opinion.

I've been visiting the site since the late '90s (yes I realise this profile isn't that old, but I was searching games like WWF Attitude when I started coming here). I've watched the site become more and more focused on a select few titles that the staff are into and less inclusive of games that are still mainstream but that don't interest the staff on a personal level. It's unprofessional and I'm getting to the point where I question why I come here any more. BTW, for anyone reading this. It isn't the case that Project CARS 2 is massively important to me and that's why I've gone on a rant, because it isn't that important to me. This is just the straw that broke the camel's back.

I don't think CRT's will ever become mainstream again. However, the community of people into retro gaming and arcade enthusiasts (people that build their own cabinets) would possibly be large enough to make a limited production run worthwhile. For this to work though it would require communication with the potential customers, and as far as I'm aware TV manufacturers aren't known for posting on forums to gather feedback from potential customers.

I think it is more likely that TV manufacturers will try to refine current technology and other companies will make niche scaling technology. So basically a continuation of the story so far. I for one own a (second hand) DVDO scaler for playing my PS2 and original XBOX. Anything earlier than that I use emulators for as it is too much hassle going the hardware route when it comes to retro gaming (sourcing good condition controllers, cartridges/discs, consoles and other hardware). I wish there was more of an effort to preserve gaming history from the industry itself, but it is a business to them. I for one am greatful that people dedicate themselves to making old games playable such as the emulator communties and companies like GOG.

Hi,

Around the time of the PS3 hack, I saw this picture which was used alongside the article.

In the past I've searched for wired PS3 controllers but Sony don't make one and the third party ones are allegedly not very good. The reason I'd like a wired controller is that over time the wireless controllers charge doesn't last nearly as long as when new. The problem with connecting the PS3 controller via the charging cable is that it can easily disconnect.

I saw this pic and thought it looked like the answer to my problem, as it appears to clamp the cable in position. However I've tried every search phrase I could think of but can't find any info.

Help would be appreciated..

@ZZoMBiE13: Lol, thanks for the welcome.

Although to be fair it was a triple-bag easy-glide vac with turbo-suction and a self-emptying dustbag! But I'll be sure not to post pics :)

Hi,

I've recently been watching some XBOX 360/PS3 comparisons. I view these purely out of interest and not for bragging rights.

In some games there are very definite differences, however in other games the only difference seems to be in the contrast levels. Having higher contrast can make colours seem more vibrant, textures appear more defined and objects appear to "pop" more.

For the comparisons I looked at it was claimed that the XBOX 360 was set to expanded colour and the PS3 had full range enabled. I think I'm correct in saying that, if that is the case, they should both have the same amount of steps in contrast (0-255).

I was wondering if anyone could offer some insight as to why this is so.

No fanboy comments please as I'm really not interested.
