Exactly two years ago I assembled my current PC with Intel 3770 (non K) and Asus P8Z77V.

Was wondering will it be worth it to get upgraded to i7 4790k coupled with Z97 (thinking of Z97-A 5th Gen from Asus) ?

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819117369

http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/Z97A/

From what I see, this motherboard will fully support Broadwell CPU's and is not heavy on the pocket either. I am using a R9 290X as a GPU and use the PC for fairly serious gaming.

The reason that I considering the upgrade is that I have an option of exchanging the CPU-mobo combo from the dealer at a price. But I'll incur a slight loss in the process (the old combo works just fine), yet won't mind it if the upgrade is interesting from a technical viewpoint. Also native support for 5th gen sound good, but i am skeptical about how much would that translate into performance gains.

Please share your thoughts guys.

Thanks in advance.

PS4- Pro: Most powerful of the three on paper. Cons: No BC, No STB capability

Xbox One: STB capability, Kinect Cons: No BC, Despearately in need of new IPS to the levels of Halo and Gears of War.

WiiU:Current line up and Good 1st party development support, BC, Tablet Controller Cons: Least Graphical Muscle power

@leandrro: Enlightening stuff mate. That video surely shed new light. I never knew the chasm between PS2 and Xbox was so huge...that brings me to

@Floppy_Jim- wondering why did Xbox not survive till 2008 when PS2 was still going strong in 2009-10.

So most amongst us seem to be using it for casual to light gaming it seems. But point is phones are getting powerful by the day. And it is not like a Vita or a 3DS which maintains same hardware for 4-5 years. Phones are hardware upgraded within less than a year. (Reminds me of PC vs console scenario, LOL)

But yeah lack of physical controllers is gripe (thanks for the input @NVIDIATI , seems a cool idea to Vita-fy the iphone).

So true that F2P sucks @AdrianWerner!! BIG TIME!! (Once I remember playing a Brother in Arms F2P title on my i-pad, out of nowhere and they asked me to buy bullets/grenades, when i ran out of them after barely starting to play. At that rate i would spend more in that title than i would spend on an upcoming PS4 title, should i even consider finishing BIA on I-pad!!)

I found San Andreas, a shockingly awesome version of Dead Space, Modern Combat 4, Max Payne 1 to be quite playable on ipad. 8-bit and 16-bit classics were always there but it wont be long we find a scaled down version of Far Cry making it's way into the phones.

Also more yesteryear blockbusters are making their way into IOS/Android platforms (Baldurs Gate anyone?)

Now how many of you guys are into gaming on your cellphones? And how seriously do you take it?

PS2 was clearly much less powerful than original Xbox and yet in the later years we witnessed God of War, Okami, Shadow of Colossus on the console.

Similarly Xbox 360 came up with Gears of War 3 and Halo 4 and led me into believing that God of War 3 and Uncharted series more than met their match. Now I was under the impression that PS3 would be way powerful than X360 when the specs surfaced (in 2005 maybe) , but then found little to choose between the two.

Now I see many posts saying how clearly PS4 is better than XB1 in the graphics department.

My question is, would not the console exclusives bridge the gap between the two in the visuals department, as in every gen?

So I heard Uncharted 4 game director left.....Sony Santa Monica is witnessing a layoff galore....according an IGN report there had been some downsizing in Sony's few other 1st party studios too....I cant see these decisions doing much good to Sony's much vaunted IP's.

What are we onto here??

As it is, the PS4 is devoid of quality titles (KZ:SF just didn't cut it for me), and instead of focusing on 1st party studios,,,Sony is surprisingly hell bent on downsizing?

Strange ,ain't it?

@Boddicker:

Thanx for the recommendation. Got Rocksmith 2014 for X360.

Seems like really fun and helpful for beginners. Was getting an audio lag on my TV, but surfed around a bit to find the solution.

Ok .....technicalities aside, a little psychology here ......I've regretted every time I jumped ships, so I'll advise you strongly against it.

From the looks of it, such "trading in" decisions always root out of dissatisfaction and I don't see you becoming fully "satisfied" after you trade in for PS4, either.

Cause such are us humans. We aren't meant to be satisfied until we have seen the best of all worlds! I bought an X360 in 2006 and sold it sometime in 2008 to get a taste of graphically superior Killzone 2, MGS4 and upcoming God Of War 3. But trust me, I regretted every time an iteration of Gears/Halo released and my X360 toting friends discussed the multi-player action!

I was completely "satisfied" when i bought back my X360 in 2012 and kept it aside my PS3, and got a copy each of Gears 2,3, Halo ODST, REach. Not that I was dissatisfied with the PS3 but not completely satisfied after I let go of the 360.....

Strongly suggest you to stick with your XB1 and get a PS4 somewhere down the line, and you'll get it cheaper too...
