Seems crazy to me that a video game news publication like GameSpot can't find anyone who got worthwhile time out of an Xbox One. Almost like you don't hire people who enjoy Xbox as a brand.
But I guess that explains the bias that oozes out of these articles being put out.
More talk about Xbox One launch issues and less about the consumer friendly approach they have taken since then, unlike their competitors.
Also no mention of the fact that it will launch with the first new Halo FPS in 5 YEARS, but sure, one of the OGs of First Person Shooters isn't exciting when i can play another narrative driven movie game by Naughty Dog.
@jsprunk: Because the computers most people have cant play most games. Please, go buy a Surface Pro, Dell XPS, Macbook Air and try and run something like the Witcher.
You have to buy a GAMING PC in order to be part of the persons who can actually game on a PC, and then you run into issues of constant upgrades and iterations needed to be at "max graphics settings". Consoles make it simple.
@Packer1080: Its quite simple really. Europe, where Sony dominates, is mostly people buying PS2/3/4 and FIFA 08/14/20. Selling consoles doesnt mean much when you arent making your money back selling software.
Ever considered why Sony has been so anti cross-play, anti-EA Access, anti-PC in the past? How can MS afford to release all their exclusives on PC, include EA Access on their service from day one and have an offering like Game Pass, whereas the best Sony can muster is PS Now?
@jsprunk: Yes because so many people prefer buying $1000 computers to play video games compared to a $300 box.
Console gaming became popular mostly because the barrier to entry on PC, as well as consistent optimization, is price. People like the fact that buying a console means for the next 7-8 years, I can play everything made for this box and I wont be left behind by not having the latest GPU, more system RAM etc.
@jsprunk: People dont buy consoles because of exclusives. Only a fraction of each consoles install base are playing exclusives. People buy what they know, and Sony has been a household name since 1994. All those parents who grew up to buy their kids consoles now? PS4 owners.
@cboye18: The subscription is great value for Xbox gamers. If you like Halo, Gears of War or Forza, you get them at launch + hundreds of other games for the cost of TWO of those exclusives. Phil has turned the Xbox brand from a anti-gamer policy to a company that allows cross-play, EA Access, Xbox Live Creators Program, etc.
@psychomantisiii: Attach rate is the value of exclusives games. It doesnt matter if an exclusive game is 10/10 and the greatest game ever if nobody is buying the console to play it. The argument against MS has always been that people buy the PS because it has better exclusives. Except their exclusives sell equally well, even under worse install base conditions.
People making this argument essentially need to accept the fact that a majority of PS sales are Europeans who buy a PS(insert number here) and FIFA (insert year here) and thats it. Occasional CoD or AC game, but besides that, the PS is selling on brand recognition. The exclusives do not sell the Playstation.
Uncharted sold 16 million copies on an install base of 100 million. Halo 5 sold 5 million copies in 3 months. If you were to extrapolate where Halo 5 ended up relative to Uncharted, using month 1 at 2.7 million copies and now at 16 million, you would arrive at around 12 million copies of Halo 5 sold. Michael Pachter even said that Halo 5 sold about par with H3/H4, meaning it put in 10 million + sales. That gives it an attach rate of almost double Uncharted 4. Halo 5 was the sequel to the most disappointing and poorly reviewed Halo yet, and launched on a console not many people had, and it still sells almost the same as Uncharted
